The five guards were smiling as if they performed a miracle.
Avery rolled onto the floor as a cold sweat spread down his body.
He watched Auryn detach her weapon seed and it bloomed for the first time.
The monster in front of her was trembling like it was hungry. Was it a wolf, or was it some kind of abomination created by a Worm Lord? He didn't have time to deal with the shocked expressions of the guards. He could sense her like she was a part of his heart, and flew towards the river at the dock of the island.
"Young master... We didn't mean to offend you!"
"Wait, men, we should follow him. Haven't you noticed his sister isn't here?"
The five guards had never seen Auryn fight and realized they were slacking on duty. If something happened to her, they'd lose their jobs and possibly their heads on the planks!"
"After him!"
....
Auryn's seed took her just a second to draw. She was shivering in disgust as the monster fired its tongue. It had an extremely foul smell and was at least a second dan monster, which meant it could be compared to a late Qi Empowerment cultivator, eleventh stage or higher.
"Heh Heh Heh." The monster laughed like a hyena and had teeth like a lion. Its claws were razor sharp as it stood on the pond like a king toad with fur.
It saw its opponent draw a staff and it howled as its fur stood on end. It ran towards her and swiped its claw.
'Appraise' Auryn thought and dodged a scrape on her dress.
[Ding! Sphynx Fox l Spirit Beast l Beast Rank: 2nd Dan]
She was at the 9th Qi Empowerment stage and had already received an evasion art, [The Will of the Wind]. With it, she dodged lithely the attacks of the beast.
[Ding! Three weak points discovered. Legs are extremely thin and should be able to be sliced!]
She battled the beast for a few minutes before her brother arrived holding a sword he took from one of the unsuspecting guards. He watched his sister hop around dodging the beast and felt annoyed at his lack of awareness.
Luckily, she shared his experiences, so even when he dueled the guards, she learned how to also use those skills to conquer foes. Her resilient cheeks seemed to turn a rose red as sweat dripped down her body.
The unsuspecting monster didn't even notice Avery appearing behind it as he also used the Will of the Wind. His blade cut through one of its hind legs as it tried to tear his sister's shirt off on her first day of school.
In anger, Auryn held out her staff as a glowing light bleached the monster's fur causing it to start to disintegrate with a tremendous shock on its face.
The bushes behind them rattled as a shadow burst into the forest.
"Aye... It was probably a summoner," Auryn complained as she noticed her brother huffing and puffing.
"I...I ran so fast to get here... and... you killed it," Avery kicked the beast, and said, he looked at the green blood pouring onto the grass. That monster, that looked like a wolf, now seemed to turn into a gigantic worm.
It was obvious someone didn't want them to live, and Auryn was unsatisfied with just getting a 2nd-grade dan they could use to take a bath with.
"Well...brother... We do have the same skills..."
"You're right, but isn't it odd? We haven't offended that many people, have we?"
Auryn shrugged her shoulders, and then withdrew her staff. She knew now that she had a light affinity that went with her spiritual roots, and gladly scooped out the beast core as the guards arrived with shocked expressions.
"Are you two alright," Galley said. He immediately ran over towards Avery as the other men approached Auryn.
They were both, obviously, alright and proceeded to make it to school on time.
Auryn had to change her dress when she got there as there was some green blood on it from the beast. She had the beasts dan hidden in her shirt and had replaced it with another dan to keep the guards from putting them under investigation. After all, if they found out they could kill a second dan beast, it would be more trouble than her trying to explain she was alright to Elton, one of her concerned classmates.
"You two... you're so daring! You took on a first dan beast," Elton leaned in at the lunch table along with Lilly, they the two closest classmates of these twins.
"Uhm... well, it was either that or I died," Auryn said stretching her arms into the air.
"Hmmm, well a beast only develops a Dan at the middle Demonic Empowerment stage! You two are truly fantastic..." Lilly said and stared into Avery's eyes.
Avery nodded his head before he picked up his fork, and ate some Qi replenishment soup the kitchen made especially for them.
"But... that isn't what you wanted to ask Lilly... Tell us quickly before lunch ends," Avery imagined she wouldn't be shaking for any other reason than something special.
"Well... yo-you two... are going to be here for when the airships arrive, right? Can I go with you," Lilly said trying to hide her excitement by lowering her voice, "I... I heard they had some talismans for summoners..."
Auryn looked at Lilly up and down... "Well, show us your weapon summon first! Congratulations Lilly!" It was common knowledge that certain weapons could specialize in certain fields. Auryn's weapon was meant for ranged combat, which meant she could attack beasts from hundreds of miles away, and healing.
"I'm shy." Lilly pouted and hesitated from drawing it in public. "When you guys take me to the Attenborough bizarre I will show you..."
