Farming

After consuming the scrumptious breakfast, Jasper followed Chen Mei Ling out of the house.

Walking towards the small rundown shack next to the house, he surveys the field in front.

There were many different types of greenery sprouting all over the soil, all of which he has never seen before.

From round buds of leaf wrapped tightly together to enormously long and round green stone-like objects hanging down from a wooden support beam, these were all things that did not exist in Trinix.

Chen Mei Ling walked over while clumsily carrying an old metal hoe that was obviously far too big for her body size.

Jasper easily grabbed the hoe from her hands and stood there silently looking at her.

"I need to clear up the field I just harvested from the other day."

"Where?"

She slowly pointed at one of the sections on the right, whispering in a soft voice when Jasper swiftly walked towards it.

"I can do it myself...."

When she finally arrived behind him, she noticed that he just stood there looking at the field in front.

"Umm...what's wrong?"

".....don't know."

"Huh?"

"I don't know how to farm."

He looked at her at a loss.

"...."

Sighing, she took the hoe back from his hand and hauled it over to the soil.

Stopping at the edge, she lifted the tool up with both of her tiny arms and swung down, letting out a small yelp.

She soon broke out into a sweat, driblets of liquid flowing down the sides of her pink cheeks.

Feeling useless, Jasper once again opened his mouth to ask if there was anything he could help with.

Looking up through her wet eyelashes, Chen Mei Ling wiped her forehead with the back of her forearm.

"No, it's okay. I can handle this. You go back into the house and rest. Your body is probably still weak from fainting yesterday."

"You're the one who looks like she's about to pass out."

"This is normal. Don't worry about me. This much is nothing."

Chen Mei Ling grinned brightly while letting out a few soft gasps of air.

Shaking his head slightly, Jasper walked over and took the hoe from her hands once again, before starting to copy her actions from earlier.

She looked down at her now empty hands.

"Thanks," she said meekly.

She watched as he continued to till the field nonstop for a few hours straight.

There was not even a single drop of sweat, and his breathing was still as constant as before he started.

She had asked him to take a break a few times in between, but he simply shook his head in refusal every time.

When the patch of soil was finally done, Chen Mei Ling ran over carrying a white towel and a porcelain cup of tea.

He took the towel from her offered hands, and wiped down his hands that had gotten a bit of dirt on them.

Staring at the cup of tea in her hands, he asked her, "What is that?"

She lifted up her hands that were holding the cup slightly.

"You mean this? It's tea. Drink it. You must be thirsty."

Jasper inhaled the aroma from the drink when he took it from her, finding the scent quite pleasing to his taste.

[Loire was quite an avid tea drinker. She would have probably liked this.]

Taking a small sip from the cup, Jasper reminisced about his good friend, the Water Knight.

[I wonder how they're all doing now.]
