The Talk
After lunch, Chen Mei Ling proceeded to show Jasper the rest of her fields.
Walking along the many rows of produce, she bent down to yank a white rooted plant right out of the ground.
She lifted her arms carrying the big white radish to her face, proudly presenting it to him.
"Let's have white radish and pork bone soup tonight!"
Her big grinning face froze.
"Are you going to stay for dinner?"
Jasper silently looked down at the young girl before him.
He still has not been able to find a way to return to Trinix.
At least, the death of the dragon child put his mind at ease.
"I would be very thankful for that, miss. I might also have to shamelessly ask you for help in looking for accommodations for a few days, before I am able to find a place to settle in myself."
Her face instantly brightened back up at his words.
"You can just stay here!"
"I don't want to be a hassle to you and your parents, miss."
She looked down at the ground with unfocused eyes for a second, before putting her gaze back at Jasper.
"My parents are not here anymore. I live alone, so it's no trouble at all."
Jasper's eyes took in the small lonely figure standing there with a forced smile on her tiny face.
"I'll be in your care then, miss."
"You really should stop calling me miss this and miss that. It sounds so weird and awkward. Just call me Xiao Ling from now on!"
"I'll be in your care then, Xiao Ling."
He looked upon her tenderly, causing the young girl to stare back in awe.
"I'll be in your care from now on too, Yu gege!"
"Gege....."
"Hmm~ it means big brother. Don't tell me there's something our big master Yu didn't know~"
She grinned at him teasingly, but Jasper just stared back with an expressionless face.
"Ahem. Let's go back inside to talk."
She ran back into the house with a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks.
Jasper followed from behind with unhurried steps.
Placing down two cups of steaming hot tie guan yin tea onto the small dining table, Chen Mei Ling sits down in front of Jasper.
"I've been meaning to ask since last night, but are you something like what they write in those web novels? Someone from a different world?"
She asked hesitantly.
Even she knew how far-fetched her deductions seemed.
She laughed self-deprecatingly to herself.
"Yes"
She looked up at him dumbfounded.
She was just asking him half jokingly, but to think he would acknowledge it just like that.
Thinking carefully back to their conversation last night, she does to some extent remember him saying something about the Kingdom of Orz and Trinix.
"Wait, you mean there are really other worlds out there? And you came from one of them???"
"That would seem to be the case here."
"What do you mean?"
"I still don't know how I ended up here. I had also believed Trinix was the only world."
