Ambush (1)

As soon as I regained my bearings, we left the room. Chloe called for Sebas and his son Devon, so we met them in one of the living rooms, she informed them about the fact that I managed to uncover new pieces of information pertaining to the murderers and even hinted at me having found their HQ. I wasn't an expert but I felt something in their facial and corporal expressions wasn't right, since the last augmentation of my willpower, I could sense some things were wrong with this investigation, so I stopped Chloe before she could speak of the place I saw when I followed the resentment of the souls.

Their expressions changed as soon as she mentioned that the ones we were looking for were a group with a green snake pattern as a symbol, Sebas himself controlled his facial expression, so nothing leaked, but his son was not that good, he had a pale face and could not help but let out an astonished exclamation. But he soon regained his mind and tried to make Chloe doubt me. I narrowed my eyes at his reaction.

« Your Majesty, can he be trusted? »

He was looking at me with disgust and asked.

Seeing Chloe's expressionless face he continued, pressing forward with the suspicions as she didn't berate him immediately.

« First of all he isn't even one of us, additionally his nature is extremely dubious as we don't know what kind of creature he is. The way his blood attracts us is not natural. I am afraid of him abusing Your Majesty's kindness. »

He didn't know that Chloe was reflecting on a remark I had just said to her through my will. She didn't care one bit about what the fool was saying, I thought the fact that Sebas' family claimed not to be able to find them was strange and told her so. Even more so, the hired mages were unable to track this group. I was not delusional enough to think that no one besides me would have found their hideout, which means there is something suspicious afoot here.

He continued for a few more minutes before realizing that Chloe wasn't even reacting to what he was saying, he looked furious and turned to me, and I just smiled as if it had nothing to do with me. He seemed pissed because he was about to attack me. His father stopped him with a hand on his shoulder and then said to Chloe

« Your Majesty, my son is right, I put my best resources into this case but we still couldn't find a wisp of them, how can he manage to find them when we failed? » looking at me with cold eyes. I didn't dignify that with an answer, I just looked at their show as if they were clowns.

Chloe came out of her thoughts and looked at both of them. Sebas and his son reflexively took a step back. I couldn't blame them, even I would feel chilled to my bone by her present gaze.

« Sebas, you and your son are starting to get on my nerves, do you believe the words I said to you when I introduced him were just for show ? » her voice so cold it could even freeze a fire. As the last word resounded in the room, a powerful aura of suppression came out of her like a tidal wave and focused on both father and son. They instantly fell on their knees. Sebas tried to resist judging by the strain on his pale face, but it was for naught as his aura was devoured by Chloe pressuring him further. On the wooden floor web-like crack started to spread.

« Excuse our impertinence, Your Highness, we didn't mean to anger you, we- »

« SAVE IT!! I don't want to hear whatever reason you have, all I know are the facts. I asked you to accomplish a task, you couldn't do it. I asked Samsara for help and he delivered. Now you want me to doubt him based on your incompetence?! » Chloe was pissed. She was also starting to suspect something wasn't right. The attitude of the duo was suspicious.

« But Chl- » Before he could finish that, my hand grasped his throat raising him in the air, his feet dangling off the ground.

« I don't think you can call her by name. Am I right? » I asked as my eyes narrowed. He tried to get out of my hands but with no success. My raw strength was comparable to an elder vampire, he couldn't move me even if he put all his strength into it.

« You! how dare you? » Sebas tried to stop me but Chloe upped the pressure and he fell back on the ground incapable of interfering.

« You know since a moment ago, I had to hear you say rude things about me. To be candid with you I don't care about that, but now you're starting to irk me slightly. So it's better - » I grabbed his head and crashed it on the ground, the wooden floor cracked and exploded into a splinter of wood. His face instantly became bloody. he didn't make any noise as he passed out from the impact and his fractured skull.

« -you go to sleep while the adults talk. » I completed my sentence and sat on a chair as if nothing happened. Sebas looked at me with a vicious gaze. What was he pissed about? I didn't kill his offspring.

Chloe relented the pressure and Sebas was finally able to stand. He went to his son and examined him before calming down and saying:

« Your majesty we have been rude to your friend and for that we are sorry. Please give us your instructions for those criminals, we will obey without fault. »

Chloe and I were surprised by his change. I felt like there was something dangerous lurking under his gaze, but it was gone in a flash replaced by a contrite and loyal expression. Chloe looked at him for a moment and finally said:

« We will attack in three days, as I said their whereabouts are sensitive information thus I decided to keep it for myself. You'll be informed on the day of the operation. For the moment I only need you to gather your people and get them ready. »

His expression flickered and he asked:

« Your majesty we can't prepare for the assault if we don't know the geographical situation of the place. »

« Like I said you don't need to worry about that, our strategy for this assault is pretty straightforward, KILL everyone. »

« I will oblige, » Sebas said before carrying his son and excusing himself his expression unreadable.

After he left I looked at Chloe and asked her what she was thinking.

« I think you're right, we should be careful from now on, I feel like the assault in three days won't be easy. »

« It feels like Sebas and Devon know something about this group, did you see them when you mentioned the green serpent? »

« Yeah that was definitely suspicious, I really hope for them, they aren't what I suspect them to be... » Her eyes were dark and void of emotions.
