Unravelling Secrets

So seek help from the humans to return the core to the neighboring Alis planet, Altis.

_________

Lucas now had a general idea of what must have happened. He also discovered to some extent why the Dark guild made this mission public.

Lucas's thinking was indeed right.

The core had a defense mechanism of its own, which would attack on detecting other life forces near it, just like what happened earlier. If even the B-rank expert didn't come in, this must mean that the Government must have sent someone even more powerful to bring the core back but was devoured instead. That's why the Empire made this public after its failed attempts and decided to let others give it a try before the news spread to the Altis planet.

"In the probable case, bringing back the core will also give the empire an opportunity to strike a one-sided business deal with the Alis."

"But still, it seems the empire just thinks this is a weapon of mass annihilation. If they knew what it really is, then the empire could reap many more benefits from this deal."

"Hehe, guess I should exchange this information for some benefits for myself. After all, I am the only human knowing the Alis language."

Lucas also came to know how powerful his cultivate skill was, depending upon the fact it had absorbed the entire Alis force, and that too within 30 minutes. That was the life force of the entire planet.

But the Alis core could only absorb the life force of Alisians. As for why it attacked Lucas, that was a defense mechanism against other species.

Still, Lucas was quite unhappy after knowing he was one of the lab rats recruited by the Empire unknowingly. But unlike others, not only did he not die, but in return he devoured the devourer itself and had also collected valuable info.

"When I become strong enough, I will head to other Alis civilizations."

"Hehe, maybe take their cores too so that they wouldn't annihilate themselves…..Alas, only a merciful man like me can do this selfless act for them...sigh."

Three hours had passed since Lucas came inside the cabin.

"It's time to go out."

Lucas, after speaking some words in the Alis language, managed to open the door. He carried the still unconscious Shiv and left.

The floor was now littered with seven corpses.

"Seems like there was a fight here. In any case, the core is a useless shell for me now. Might as well let them take it. After all, one should not be too greedy."

Lucas then started memory alteration on Shiv.

"This brat, despite being young, is quite capable. He has good potential."

After activating his skill, Lucas went ahead to wash his brain, but he suddenly remembered the words spoken by Shiv just before becoming unconscious.

So Lucas first decided to look into his memories and came to know something surprising.

The boy was captured and trained by an assassination organization similar to Dark Gloves, and when he retaliated by trying to escape, they threatened to kill his mother.

The worst part was that every mission he completed would guarantee three months of life for his mother. And if he couldn't complete his mission this time, his mother would have only five days to live.

Professionally speaking, performing an assassination within five days was almost impossible.

This time his mission was to get the codex (core), which was issued by the organization to him.

"Sigh, seems like I have to get the core after all…..hmm, might as well take the brat under my wing. He indeed has good potential."

"But the cost for taking him in is destroying the Velvet organization…..hmm, forget it. If I take him under me by destroying the org, it will be just the continuation of another slavery for him."

"He should decide his own future. All I can give him is a little help."

Lucas then tied Shiv to his back and opened a parachute to glide down from the top floor.

After brushing past the wind swiftly, Lucas opened his parachute not too far from the base of the tower. He could see three assassins running along the main road in haste while also fighting each other from time to time.

Lucas smirked. He had already prepared a plan to sabotage their ambition for the core by taking it for himself.

"I better hurry up, or things won't be fun if they kill each other. Hehe."
