Chapter 9: The current situation of the prairies

A few days before the rising sun tribe and Aren reached the region of the rivers. The prairie situation became more tense than anticipated by Aren. During that time the four main tribes had begun hostilities between them. As Aren predicted at the beginning, small skirmishes took place between them. But the situation became untenable for the four tribes.

The reason for the previous war between two of the four tribes was caused by the growth of the other tribes. These tribes feared that the rest of the tribes would begin to unite or ally, becoming a danger to them. So they agreed with the other two tribes which would not participate, but would send their allies and vassals to war. The four main tribes agreed not to lose many of their men and instead make the medium and small tribes clash with each other in their name. At the end of the war the main tribes achieved their objectives, they had no major losses but the rest of the prairie tribes were hard hit, most lost many of their warriors, other tribes were directly destroyed or subjugated by the main tribes. The rest of the tribes never knew of the secret agreement between the main tribes so they could not do anything. A good example of the consequence of the war was the tribe of the rising sun, the tribe of Aren. This tribe at that time was considered a medium tribe, with a population close to 300 people and this was located in a more central area of the prairies where the land is more fertile. But once the war ended the tribes lost almost more than half of its population, and were forced to move to a more peripheral area of the prairies for fear of being destroyed or subjugated by one of the medium tribes or even one of the the main tribes.

At the moment the war that began and in which the four main tribes participate, does not have a conspiratorial background. The cause is the expansion of territory.

The four main tribes occupy the central area of the meadows, where the land is more fertile, for generations these have not moved from that place unlike the rest of the tribes which had to move every certain time caused by the loss of fertility of the lands. The four tribes always thought that the lands they occupied would never cease to be fertile until a point came when each crop decreased its production, to the point that the main tribes realized that they would soon have to change their cultivation territory. This was reason enough for the main tribes to go to war. Each wanted to destroy their opponents and take their land and property. They did not worry about involving the entire prairie region in a war in which entire tribes would surely disappear and where there can only be one victor. At this point the main tribes are decided.

-----

In the eastern part of the central region of the prairies is one of the main tribes, the tribe of the black lion, his name was because an ancestor of his achievement to hunt a black lion a demonic creature of the most dangerous in the prairies , since then the leader of the tribe wears the skin of a black lion which passes to the next leader and so on.

-My lord- in a large hut located in the center of town, a man enters and kneels in front of a group of people, these were the members of the black lion tribe's council.

Presiding over the meeting, there is a tall, muscular man, wearing a black lion skin over his shoulders. This is the leader of the tribe, Sircan.

-Dime you've found out- Sircan asked the man who had just arrived, this was an explorer of the tribe.

-My lord, the other main tribes as you predicted have begun to gather the warriors of their allies and their vassals, just as we are doing-

-Well, it was expected that they would do the same as us, it seems that none want to face their own warriors during the first battles- Sircan started talking to the council, they listened attentively to their leader.

-Then you have something else to report-

-If my lord ... - to the question of Sircan, the explorer did not know if to speak.

-what happens- Sircan I detect the hesitation of the explorer.

-Well, my lord, when I was going to the eastern area to deliver the message of appeal to our allies, in one tribe they informed me that the tribe of the rising sun had disappeared-

-which had disappeared- Sircan was surprised.

-If my lord, after hearing this, I immediately went to the tribe of the rising sun and when he arrives he can confirm that all the members of the tribe were no longer there, there were only the cabins and nothing else. Nor did I find anything, neither the supplies nor their weapons. Their properties also disappeared-

- ... - under the watchful eye of Sircan, the explorer continued his report.

-After confirming this, look for a clue at first I thought they were attacked but I did not find signs of struggle, but then when I looked for me I found the tracks of people and their animals that were moving away from the village in an easterly direction. I wanted to follow the strikes to see if they had moved to another area of the prairies, but I ran out of food for the trip so I returned to the nearest village to get them. Once there, buy the food and ask if they had seen any member of the tribe of the rising sun. They replied that for many days they had not seen any, the only time they saw them was when they went to that village to sell their supplies of bronze, copper and tin. When I heard this, I asked them if they knew why. They told me that they did not ask anymore because their leader's orders bought so much metal supply to make weapons since the news of the war was already known and they required more weapons-

-they said something else-

-If my lord, they told me that after selling the metals they bought some sacks of skins that are used to store the wheat grains-

- ... - Sircan remained pensive while the explorer continued talking.

-After replenishing supplies I went and followed the tracks, but they continued for 3 days, by that time I was again without food only had enough to return to the previous village. After thinking a lot I decided to go back and report it to you my lord-

They serve like the council, he was thoughtful.

-If they sold their metals and in the village there is no trace of them ... that means that they have left the prairies surely- before Sircan's declaration the council agreed.

- Surely they bought grain from the merchants, and you say they went to the east, that means towards the river region. But I do not think they can get there, on their way there is no other tribe and also those areas are territories of demonic creatures. We should have subjugated them after the previous war and not remain only allies. Sircan was not worried about not having the warriors of the tribe of the rising sun, anyway, they did not have many after the previous war.

-in spite of not being important, your escape from the war is something that we can not let the rest of our allies know, if they know they will have doubts about sending their warriors and could even follow the example of the tribe of the rising sun -

-Then we will do my Lord- one of the counselors asked.

-you have to tell the nearby villages that the tribe of the rising sun was attacked by a tribe from one of the main tribes and that they were all massacred, you will also tell them that for this reason all the tribes have to send their warriors soon as possible. At least with this excuse we can accelerate the recruitment of troops. Sircan ordered the scout who nodded and left the cabin.

-With regard to that tribe, I do not know if they managed to reach their destination, but when we won the war I will take charge of destroying their new village and show that our tribe does not tolerate the cowardice of its allies-

Before the declaration of Sircan the council applauded. Both they and the other main tribes thought that the war would last as long as winter, never expected that this war would be the greatest prairie war and that it would completely change the prairie region and benefit the tribe of the rising sun. And it would even influence the entire eastern part of the continent.
