A Cup of Tea

Jian walked down the street her expression neutral as she entered the small cafe. "Hello," the shop attendant said in a cheery tone and Jian at him saying, "Hello." The shop attendant frowned slightly asking, "Are you alright?"

Jian smiled saying, "Just a rough week, how are you?" He smiled saying, "Decent, what can I get for you?" Jian looked at the menu before saying, "A cup of green tea and an avocado toast with a squeeze of lime." He nodded saying, "You can wait at a table it would be delivered shortly." Jian nodded walking away from the counter towards a table near a shelf filled with books.

Jian took a book placing her phone down before sitting down and reading. She was a few pages deep when the worker came over with a tray. He placed them down she smiled saying, "Thank you."

He nodded walking back and that's when Jian noticed the figure at the door. Jian glanced at him; his expression neutral as he walked over towards her. He sat down as Jian took a sip of her tea holding a gentle smile on her face.

"Jian, are you free tomorrow?" He asked and Jian's smiled dropped slightly as she said, "I am a little busy these next few weeks with all the castings scheduled for me, but I am free this afternoon, as long as you're buying." She looked at him his expression changed slightly as he gained a light smiled on his face.

"Do want to drop me off so we can talk?" Jian asked and he nodded as he relaxed a bit. She smiled saying, "Give me a few more minutes." He nodded as he got up to take a call. Jian glanced at him the book she was reading long closed.

...

"Yes, father I'll be there," John said before his father said something and Johnny closed his eyes as his jaws clenched, he bawled his fist saying, "Yes, father." He opened his eyes glancing at Jian whose gaze he had felt on the back of his head.

She gave him a sweet smile before his expression softened as he opened his fist. John turned around listening as his father went on a tangent about being presentable.

Jian smiled taking a few bites watching Johnny and the ongoing human traffic as she finished her meal. She took a few bites of the brownie before overcoming with its sweetness. She didn't finish as she got up after finishing her toast and tea with a few bites of the brownie left on the plate she walked outside.

Johnny had just ended his phone call and smiled as he held the door opened for her and she walked out. "We are taking this car," Johnny said as he walked towards a sleek black car. Jian nodded as she got inside after he held the door for her.

She texted her mother while John started the car and drove. "Hello, yes mom," Jian said as she answered the phone and Jessica smiled asking, "I am going out to get some groceries, is there anything you would like?"

Jian smiled asking, "Not really, when will you be back?" Jessica took a few seconds before saying, "About an hour," and Jian nodded before saying bye and cutting the call.

"Your mom's going out?" Johnny asked and Jian nodded saying, "Grocery shopping." He nodded as they soon parked and Jian out with Johnny following behind her. He didn't say much but Jian talked as she explained about what she did the past week.

"Now as for a response, I think I should get it by Friday and that's what I am waiting for," Jian said as they entered the apartment. John nodded taking his shoes off as Jian asked, "Do you want anything to drink?" He shook his head, as he sat down on the sofa asking, "You don't wanna know about..."
