"Hey Xuan Yu, what was that, that flashy white thing at the end."
After Mou Lin released his arm. Xuan Yu had started to walk back to the class.
"A Qi distortion."
"One way for them to happen is when two highly similar spells try to occupy the same space. They tend to result in an explosion. Xuan Yu was aggravating it and intended to detonate it at me."
Mou Lin for a moment fixed his gaze on Xuan Yu who had gone and sit by Tan Cui. As their gaze met Mou Lin pondered a few things but ultimately dismissed them.
Once the formation within the field had caused the errant spells to disperse. Mou Lin prepared to call the second person.
"Tan Cui, you are up next."
Taking massive effort Tan Cui got to her feet and then moved over to stand in front of Mou Lin. The distance between them the same as it was between him and Xuan Yu.
Then she pointed toward the sun. And Mou Lin pondered for a bit.
"You are going to have to fight in daylight more often than not. So let us start with that. If you are not too tired after we can do it like that."
"Reverse, more energy."
Giving in Mou Lin did a few hand signs and then raised a hand. Darkness flew out from his hands and spread out like a blanket over the Class and the part of the field they were.
Once it was fully spread it took on the appearance of the night sky. Darkening just the area under it as if a particularly thick grey cloud had come to visit.
Though it took a few minutes Tan Cui who was no longer under the sun changed. Her body straightened and her partially closed eyes were now half-open. A charmingly, arrogant smile played across her lips as she stretched herself out, like someone who had just woke up.
Finished, she finally seemed like a proper young master. Her bearing and posture did not lose out to Dai Tian or Xuan Yu. And even the sloppiness of her attire just made her seem like a frivolous scion.
Her smug expression was charming and drew out the charisma of the person most people had labeled a mess.
And all this coupled with the mischievous glint in her deep black eyes. Made it easy to tell she was trouble, beautiful trouble.
Tan Cui did a little movement but Mou Lin noticed it.
"No weapons, we will be practicing with those later."
Tan Cui puffed up her cheeks cutely at that but then returned to her arrogant smile. Realizing that she couldn't trick Mou Lin's eyes she dropped her weapon.
"Instructor, I get to use spells, right? It's only fair since Xuan Yu got to use them after all."
Tan Cui asked her voice sweet.
Though he felt like he would regret it Mou Lin agreed and Tan Cui's smile deepened.
And then there were 6 more Tan Cuis. While the shock was still evident on the rest of her classmates. Mou Lin's eyes glowed and then the Tan Cuis disappeared and so did Mou Lin.
"Seriously, what just happened?"
No one answered Lou Jian's question. None of them could. Even Xuan Yu's brows were furrowed.
'Impossible.'
'It's right before your eyes though.'
'Tch.'
'At that speed, she could take your head off before you even connected with your Dao. Well if she caught you off guard.'
Xuan Yu relaxed and closed his eyes falling into his thoughts.
Mou Lin, on the other hand, felt like sighing for who knows how many times today, as he leaped back.
Landing safely for the first time since the initial confrontation.
"Apologies to Instructor I'm really bad at sparring."
7 Tan Cuis said in perfect sync.
"It's fi-…"
Before Mou Lin finished speaking the Tan Cuis disappeared. Stepping to the side Mou Lin avoided a strike at his throat. Only to find two Tan Cuis attacking him from the sides.
His eyes glowing he caught both blows. Then threw one of the Tan Cuis into another one that was coming at his back.
Pinning the other's arm at her back he used her against a shield at another. But the moment he noticed the one he was holding was smiling he jumped far back.
An explosion rang out on the Academy Field.
Right, where Mou Lin landed he founded himself attacked from four sides. Dodging into the air he ended up trading blows with another version of her.
But before he even started falling again. There was a barrage of Moon Fire targeting him.
With the real Tan Cui in front of him, he would have to save them both and from the smile on her face. She knew full well that's what he would do so.
Using her hand as he did with Xuan Yu, he created a Still Pond spell and used it to block one of the spells as he rapidly moved out of the encirclement.
After touching the ground again Mou Lin and the real Tan Cui fought. Every strike of Tan Cui's was with all her force and aimed at a vital area.
Mou Lin wanted to sigh again.
"Why are my students trying to kill me?"
Every gap in his defense. Every time there seemed to be a single opening. After every move, he made there would be one of Tan Cui's clones showing up to strike at him or fire a spell.
Whenever Mou Lin switched to offense one of her clones would make him switch back to defense. And if none were available to attack, she would open up her defense so that Mou Lin's attack would aim for her vital instead.
Of course, Mou Lin would never carry through with an attack that would cause her serious harm.
Mou Lin sighed again and his eyes turned brighter. Next Tan Cui found herself flat on her back. Her concentration broken all of her clones dispersed.
"She is way faster and stronger than any mortal has any right being. Whatever place she disappeared to back then must have been something." Mou Lin finally free from her relentless assault began analyzing as Tan Cui got back up with a spring in her step. "Though I cannot guess where that would be. Even my eyes are having trouble telling where her style is derived from."
"Tan Cui, I need to test your defense as well."
"Eh, but I am pretty much an offense baby though. You know, punch, punch till they can't punch back."
She did two little mind-boggling fast punches at that.
"Then we will leave it at that for now."
"Hey Instructor, can we keep this out? Instead of going another round I mean you can test me any other day, right?"
"Sure."
