With that, the preparations were almost complete. Once the weapons and fences were complete, only the attack from the other side would await. With nothing more to do, Ye Qin holed up inside his room and did some muscle training.
Despite doing so for many years, his body never grew large. It stayed relatively normal, neither thin nor large. Instead, his muscles were powerful and symmetrical, creating a perfect balance throughout his entire body.
Of course, it was not exaggerated, nor like the main characters in cultivation novels. He could not break boulders or mountains with a punch. At most, he was only a little bit stronger and more agile than the average person.
After working out, he logged into the virtual world and invested his time into the game. He slowly grew stronger, learning a new skill, while gaining new equipment. He only waited for Wang Tao to catch up so that they could travel to the next destination together.
Logging out of the game, he went to bed for the night. Just like that, an entire week went by. Early in the morning, Ye Qin left the palace and headed outside. The soldiers were stationed, while the king himself wore a set of armor, carrying a large trident in his hand.
The trident was indeed huge, being almost as large as the king himself. The trident was golden, just like the king's armor. Looking at the king, it looked as though he could take on a powerful monster using his own strength.
As he stepped forward, the king noticed him. "Your majesty." he said to the king.
"You're here, all we can do now is wait." the king replied. Ye Qin nodded, the flood dragon appeared from his storage space, and swam high above the kingdom, acting as its protector. Now, they waited for the neighboring kingdom to attack, since they were on the defensive, it was obvious that they had the advantage.
Whether it was geographically, due to the fishmen knowing the surroundings like the back of their hands, or because they were defending their kingdom. Since ancient times, the defensive side had always held the advantage in warfare, of course, just because they had the advantage didn't mean they would win the war. There have been many such cases in history over thousands of years of history.
Now, the only thing to do was wait for the enemy to advance upon them. Without having sight of the enemy, even if they wanted to take the initiative; it was a rash move that could cost them greatly.
Standing behind at the very back, Ye Qin stood by the side of the Mermen King and gazed forward towards where the enemy would attack. Geographically, they shouldn't be attacked from anywhere else but ahead of them. Behind them, was the entrance to the human world, which was also surrounded by an endless valley of underwater mountains. If the enemy attacked from there, they would need to spend a large amount of time to get around and climb over.
Even then, by the time they rushed down, the soldiers would all be extremely tired and wouldn't be able to put their all to fighting. This was pointless and would only send their soldiers to death unless it was a diversion to distract them from their main force.
Even after a long time, there were no signs of the enemy attacking. Not even a single bubble could be seen in the far distance, only the empty horizon could be seen. "Strange, could it be that the information was wrong, or are they stalling for time? If they wait until night, it would be even more disadvantageous for them; unless.."
Ye Qin immediately leaped into the air as a golden dragon appeared under his feet and took him upward. Once he was high enough, he scanned the surrounding area as far as he could see. Even without the Sage with him, he could still utilize the enhanced sight ability to see extraordinarily far.
Looking around, he couldn't see anything coming, let alone an army that was preparing to invade. Suddenly, he noticed a tiny bubble, as well as extremely faint outlines of multiple figures far in the distance. It seemed like they were using some sort of invisibility or camo to hide from hindsight, making it almost impossible to see.
Instantly, a silver dragon appeared beside him and fired a huge beam of silver light that rained down upon them from a huge distance.
Rumble* Rumble*
"Men, we are almost there, prepare to attack on my orders." a voice spoke towards the large army that it had brought with it.
"Yes sir." the troops replied as they marched forward.
"Our purpose here is to act as bait for the real nightmare that is to come later once it becomes darker, while we ourselves cannot see that well, those things can see extremely well as if it were their backyard." the commander of the large army thought. Suddenly, he sensed danger and got up from his position.
In the far distance, the army felt powerful energy coming towards them at incredible speed. A huge silver beam of light that could destroy the entire army came rushing at them, and would approach within a few seconds.
"Spread out! Get into formation A 2LSFI!" the commander shouted. Instantly, the troops moved and formed a defensive formation to protect themselves from the silver beam of light that flew towards them like a meteor.
Bang!
Their countless shields that came together, as well as the energy they all produced to reinforce their defenses scattered along with the beam of light. Even though they had successfully defended against the attack, a large portion of their energy was depleted from that single attack.
"D*mn, that took a third of our energy reserves, how can the enemy attack us while we should be nearly completely invisible. It must be some sort of treasure, of course, such is the might of our foe. Unfortunately, the spies that were planted didn't give us any information about such a treasure that could see us." the commander thought, as he rationed his troops and continued onwards when no more beams of light came for them.
Of course, the commander didn't know that Ye Qin didn't require any treasure to see them, all except for his own two eyes. It was extremely hard for him to notice them, he had only noticed them because of a single bubble that appeared for a brief moment before disappearing. Unfortunately for them, it was enough for him to notice them and attack instantly.
Going back to the ground, Ye Qin got off the Qiulong and whispered to the Mermen King. "Your Majesty, about ten kilometers away, in the north-west direction is an army of roughly three thousand."
The Mermen King nodded, commanding his army to face north-west, anticipating the approaching army. While Ye Qin himself could fight here, it was ultimately a battle between the kingdoms, as such, he couldn't be involved directly in their conflict.
Only if something unexpected that wasn't a part of the enemy nation's kingdom attacked, would Ye Qin make his move. At the same time, in two other kingdoms were Wang Tao and Long Bing Rong had also made their move, allowing their allies to begin their defense.
They themselves were also prepared for any unwelcomed guests that may attack later on, and would only move once this happened. A war between the kingdoms of the Seafolk should only be solved between themselves, it wasn't something that a human should involve themselves indirectly.
******
Standing at the very back, Ye Qin had his arms crossed as he watched the battle. By now, a few hours had gone by and the enemy had attacked. Since they were prepared for it, there weren't a lot of casualties, especially so since they were the ones defending. The same couldn't be said for the enemy, with a force of three thousand at the beginning, it was reduced to a mere thirty in a matter of a dozen or so minutes. A few more armies of such scale came, but the contractions that were prepared by Ye Qin quickly dwindled down their forces quickly.
The Mermen King himself hadn't moved out, only his troops had fought, while four Seafolk in golden armor was stationed by his side. Obviously, they were the four strongest generals and protectors of the kingdom, though, they were weaker than the Mermen King himself even in a one against four. Even if he was stronger than them, a king must still have protectors no matter what.
When the enemy had attacked, they had seen the Flood Dragon being stationed directly above the very kingdom, while it looked down on them without attacking. Not only did act as though it were the guardian of the kingdom, but also struck fear into the hearts of the troops. As Seafolk, it was obvious that a Flood Dragon ruled over them and could directly control them if it had wanted to.
What they didn't understand was why such a legendary creature was protecting their enemy nation. Normally, such a great beast wouldn't even bother with such small skirmishes between kingdoms and was incredibly hard to find, let alone protect something. From their estimates, it was most likely to be the human that was standing beside the Mermen King in the far distance, who was staring at them without showing any particular emotions, as if he was watching insignificant bugs.
The expression the human gave them wasn't any less than that being that was their commander in the background, providing them with the power and support to invade the three neighboring kingdoms. What a certain commander wanted to know, was which side would prevail in the end. Unfortunately, the commander knew that it wouldn't survive to see the outcome of the battle, as the commander took its last breath, forever leaving this world.
Soon, the battle had ended, with thousands of bodies everywhere, as well as blood that dyed the seabed. None of the blood had mixed in with the water surrounding them, otherwise, it would be impossible to see.
Once the battle was over, the troops celebrated for a short period of time after taking back the bodies of their fellow soldiers. With the battle not over, it was impossible for them to provide a burial for their fallen comrades, and could only sit it out. Of course, since the enemy could also attack during the night, the soldiers didn't let down their guard and prepared to grab their weapons and fight at any given moment.
Every moment spent preparing caused their anxiety to grow, as well as the tension involved in war. Nobody knew when the enemy could attack, if they let their guard down, the families that were still waiting for them at home would have their safety jeopardized, it wasn't something they wanted to happen and wanted to avoid it at all costs.
In the midst of the night, while the soldiers were having dinner, the entire kingdom started shaking immensely. Instantly, the soldiers threw their food away and ran outside with their weapons in tow, only to see a huge shadow covering the entire kingdom above them. It was incredibly large, many times bigger than even the Flood Dragon that was sitting atop the kingdom earlier. In fact, the Flood Dragon was like the size of an ant compared to the huge creature above them. They could barely see due to the limited light of the kingdom. Even so, the huge figure was enough for their morale to drop slightly.
