The one who rules the school Part 1

[Friday, Morning]

"IT'S HERE!" Ethan ran in screaming. "TODAY IS THE DAY!"

"Please be quiet…" I said. "I'd rather not have to deal with you today."

"Well, you have no choice. Because today is the day of it all! Today is the first day to decide who will be the Head Students!"

"Head students, huh?"

Although we are making them out to be something greater than they are. The head students were elected in year 12 and they become the new head students next year. You are basically a representative of the school and go to some fancy events. You can also be really biased and rig elections like the student and teacher awards at the end of the year. It's the only thing they do.

It's a role that many want because it looks good to employers, but really, it doesn't mean shit. It's a popularity contest. It will always be a popularity contest. We aren't voting based off policies because they don't have any. The head student doesn't have enough power to make major changes to the school, all they can do is decide what the end of year event is and get involved in teacher gossip. Basically, to end my rant, it's a piece of shit role that everybody thinks they want but really won't once it's over.

"Are you going to run?" I asked Ethan who I can only assume was preparing his speech.

"Of course!" he said ecstatically. "I'm ready for it all."

"Well, perfect. Have you prepared for the interview?"

"I-interview?" Another annoying and stupid part of this was the interview. Typically, around 20 people will nominate themselves, but they also need someone from the younger years to nominate them. 20 people is a lot, so they shrink the number down with interviews. Each person talks to the teachers for about 10 minutes and the teachers decide on the final 5 or 7.

At that point, why don't the teachers just vote if they are only allowing the ones they like.

"I don't think I should do this," Ethan said as he slumped onto his desk.

"You can do it," I said not sounding convincing at all. "Who is your younger rep?"

"Charley." He said.

"Oh, dear." was all I could reply.

As mentioned, you need the younger years to support you. During this week that was coming up, you give a presentation to the younger years about what you hope to achieve. This, as you may have guessed, is pointless. It's nothing but useless promises and random bullshit to get kids to vote for them. You are better off using your presentation time to talk about how shit the education system is and how flawed this head student system is.

"Who are the others running?" Sean said joining late but instantly catching up.

"I don't know," Ethan said finally giving in.

"Well, why don't you just try the interviews," I said. "And when they fail you because you suck, you can feel accomplished because at least you tried."

"Maybe."

The interviews were today after school. Then the winners will be emailed tonight and the presentations are next week. The final vote will be Friday morning and the winners will be announced. I should probably have mentioned this sooner, but there are two head students. One head boy, and one head girl. They work together when it comes to being corrupt leaders. Corruption is a team effort.

"I don't think you'll win," Sean said.

"I agree," I added. "It wouldn't be interested in the story if you won. Plus you aren't popular."

"True, I think Pars might be running."

Wow, Pars is in Sixth form? I thought he wouldn't because I'm convinced he isn't real.

"Who?" Sean said.

It's a good thing he forgot about him. I assume he was forgotten about for a reason. Maybe because he is filler. Is this filler?

"Alright!" Ethan screamed. "I'm going to do it. I'll do the interview."

Ethan was determined to do the interview. He pulled out a sheet of paper and began talking to himself.

"Wow, what a god you are," he said. "I love you." "You are such an amazing person."

At this point, it was getting weird. I wanted to stop him but I didn't want to stop him. It's a confusing time for all of us.

"Alright. I've got 3 hours until the interview." Ethan said. "Wish me luck."

Ethan prepared with all the time he had. He needed it. He wanted to succeed. We all know he wouldn't, but at least he will try.

The day ended and Ethan was waiting to hear from the teachers about his failure. Well, technically, if he fails he won't hear from them.

DING

Ethan's phone dinged and he threw it out his pocket and whipped it in front of his face.

"Oh, it's just Bella." He said throwing his phone onto the floor.

"What did she want?" Sean asked.

"Something about the house is on fire. Didn't read it, didn't care."

Is he sure this alright? What if it was serious?

"She's smart, she'll figure it out." He said to himself quietly.

DING

Again, his phone went off and he picked it up at lightning speed.

"I DID IT!" He screamed. "I GOT PASSED THE INTERVIEWS!"

Well fuck. This isn't funny at all. Now all he has to do is create a presentation over the weekend and present it.

"Your presentation will be on the last day, Friday." the message read.

Ouch. Last day, that could be either the best or the worst. Probably the worst as everyone has already given up and wants to kill themselves after a week of propaganda and being looked down on by all the chad sixth formers.

I just hope Ethan can somehow make this funny in the second part.
