Chapter Four
Due to the condition of the roads and the amount of snow fall in my area, school is closed, thank god. The thing is, the bakery is close too which sucks because I can't go see Jiyoo and apologize for skipping work yesterday. I get up from bed and go to my mom's room to check up on her.
"Hey, mom? How are you doing?" I ask while walking to her.
She does not look good at all. She's very pale, can barley move now, and can barley eat. Things are not looking good and I'm really starting to worry.....a lot.
"I-I-I-I'm f-f-f-inne, s-s-s-w-eaty," she stutters due to her health. I sigh from her bedside.
"You're not fine, mom. I mean, you're stuttering now and your not eating," I whine. She gives me an upset look.
"I-I-I-I'm s-s-s-s-o-o-orry," she cries. I begin to tear up.
"Mom, please don't talk. You're weak as it is. It's gonna be...o-okay," I say while holding back the tears. She gestures me to give her a hug. I come over slowly and gently place my arms around her.
"I'll make this right, mom. I don't know how, but...we will make it through," I whisper to her while tears run down my face. She pats my back, assuring me everything will be okay. I wipe my tears with my arm and smile at her. I give her medicine to her and leave the room. Since there's nothing to do, I decide to go for a nice walk, even though there's a bunch of snow everywhere. I grab my tan coat and snow boots and leave the apartment.
Snow dances in the crisp, cool air all around the city. My breath leaves my body as it ascends to the cloudy, white sky from above. Each flake lands softly and delicately on me as I walk down the sleeping city. The only sound you can hear is the sound of the fresh snow crunching beneath my snow boots as I take each step. I don't even realize that I'm right in front of the park. I get a flashback of what happened yesterday. I debate to myself if I should keep walking or enter the park of bad memories.
"Ugh, fuck it," I whisper to myself. I shrug and enter the park. I couldn't help myself. I can't resist the gorgeous scenery of the park. The trees glisten and sparkle from the fluffy snow that rests on the naked branches that extend from the it. I take in the view of the beautiful nature that surrounds me.
"Well, nature.....you're goddamn beautiful," I laugh to myself. I jump when I hear another chuckle from close by. I quietly walk towards where the chuckle came from. Behind some bushes and sitting on a bench sits Jungkook with what seems like an expensive camera around his neck.
Phew! I thought that was Minseok for a second. I don't know why, though.
I come toward him and he looks up to me from the bench.
"Hey...Jungkook," I shyly say to him.
"Hey, (y/n)," he says while looking down at his camera. We just stay silent while the snow falls all around us.
"Look...about what happened yesterday..." I start to explain.
"Before you start, I just want to apologize on behalf of me. I shouldn't have ran away from you like that. I just didn't want to mess up your relationship with Minseok. Out of your sake and his sake, I'll leave you alone for good," he says looking sad.
"I...umm...appreciate your apology, but I'm not dating Minseok," I smile to him as I sit on the bench next to him. He looks to me shocked.
"You're...not? Then why did he say he's your boyfriend?" He questions while cocking his head to the side.
"I have no clue. I don't understand why he said that or what his intentions were, but...I'm not talking for him...for now at least," I explain to him. He nods and turns his head to his camera.
"So...I see you have a camera," I say while leaning over his shoulder to see his picture. He turns to me and nods.
"Ummm...yeah. It's...uhhh...kinda of a hobby," he shyly smiles while going through his pictures.
"That's cool! I wish I had a cool hobby like that," I beam at him. He begins to blush.
"T-thanks.....uuuhhh no one really.....cares about my hobbies...or my talents in general," he frowns. My heart breaks a little.
Poor, Jungkook. How does no one care about him?
"People just.....agree with everything I say...without any true feelings," he says while looking down.
"I-I-I'm so sorry! I didn't know! I shouldn't have brought it up!" I panic. He laughs at me with a huge bunny-like smile.
"Don't worry about it. Sorry to be such a downer," he grins.
"Oh....uhh...it's okay. Sorry for panicking," I apologize.
"Umm...anyways, what kind of pictures do you take?" I ask with curiosity.
"Oh! Uhh...just pictures of like beautiful sceneries...and my friends," he says with shyness while mumbling the last part.
"Wow! You must take beautiful pictures of sunsets and all!"
"Yeah...from time to time. But I have really cool pictures of my friends and I when we went on vacation together," he says while trying to find the photos. He finds them and brings the screen to my face. I see him and six other boys at what appears to be some beach.
Wow...he's got some attractive friends...ugh snap out of it, (y/n)!
He scrolls through all the photos he has, then, he lands on a photo of me admiring the snow covered trees from minutes ago.
"Uuuhhh....y-you weren't suppose to see that," he panics while hiding the camera. We both blush at what just happened. Then, I chuckle at him.
"I-I-I'm sorry. I'll delete it if you want," he says with guilt.
"No, it's fine. I think it's.....sweet," I blush to him. He turns away and scratches his neck.
"So...how's the bakery?" He asks. I freeze, and no, not because of how cold it is.
"Yeah...about that," I begin to tell him. I explain how I skipped work due to all the drama from yesterday.
"Oh...I'm sorry. I feel like I'm some what responsible," he sighs.
"Hey, don't worry. I'll talk to Jiyoo tomorrow, if the bakery is open that is," I smile, hiding how I truly feel. I feel so anxious confronting Jiyoo. I feel like I let her down yesterday. Ugh, I can't believe I skipped work. I look down to the ground with a frown on my face. Jungkook must have notice me.
"Hey, if you're not busy and you're up to it, do you.....want to meet up with me here again tonight?" He asks shyly.
"Okay...sure!" I smile. He gets up from the bench.
"Cool! See you later!" He says while getting up. We give each other our numbers and say our goodbyes as we part ways. I quickly run back to the apartment with butterflies in my stomach. I enter my house and check on my mom. I turn pale. I look into my mom's room to see my mother looking paler than she's ever been. Not to mention she's as thin as a stick from her lack of appetite. The good thing, if you can really call it a good thing, is she's resting...a lot...maybe too much. I sigh.
Maybe.....I should stay home instead of hanging out with Jungkook. I mean my mother isn't looking good at all.
I leave her room and enter mine. I flop on my bed.
"What should I do?" I whisper. I contemplate for awhile before making my final decision. I'm about to text Jungkook to call of our date...or not date. I don't really know. Anyways, before I can send the text, someone knocks at the door. I run to the door and open it. The door reveals Jiyoo standing there while trying to warm her hands up from the cold.
"Oh...Jiyoo...hi," I mumble. She immediately hugs me.
"(Y/n)! I'm so glad you're okay!" She cries. I pat her back while she weeps in my arms.
"A-Are you okay, Jiyoo?" I ask.
"Yes...I just thought something serious happened yesterday. When you didn't show up for work, I got so worried something might have happened to you," she explains while wiping her tears.
"Oh...well.....I'm okay. And about me skipping work," I start to say.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just glad you're okay," she smiles. She gives me another hug and we both sit down on the couch. I make a quick batch of tea for us and bring it over.
"So why did you skip work, if I may ask?"
I explain the whole situation and explain how I'm meeting Jungkook tonight, but my mother isn't doing great, so I think I'll stay home instead. She nods.
"You know...I don't have anything planned tonight. And since I'm already here, I can look after your mother. After all, we're like family," she beams.
"Really?" I ask. She nods and I hug her.
"Thank you so much! I owe you big time!" I boom.
"No you don't. Now go get ready to see that handsome boy," she winks at me. I blush and head to my room. I dress in a gray sweater, black leggings, with a maroon beanie on my head. I put on my winter coat and snow boots. I explain how to take care of my mother to Jiyoo. I grab my phone and head out the door.
Hey guys! How's the story so far? I'm enjoying and I hope you guys are too. Anyways, hoped you enjoyed! Bye!
