Chapter 9

Jaime had initially planned on moving out of the lumberry forest and go towards the Savage Lands in the far west but an unexpected windfall had delayed his departure.

After he went through the bags of the dead mages: Nadia and Maylum, he obtained many books relating to spells of water and earth magic. Jaime had keen interest in improving his own magic and for that he readily went through those books in hopes to gain some enlightenment and create some more dark magic spells.

After three days of retreat, he successfully did manage to enlighten himself on a new dark magic which he named as: 'Dark Spikes', which he had derived from the earth magic spell: 'Earth Spikes'.

Jaime wished to try and improve this new dark spell but then he realised he didn't really have much time as he should vacate the lumberry forest as soon as possible. He proceeded towards the western part of the forests, his destination: Savage Lands of the West. As he moved through the forest he noticed a lot of faint magic fluctuations through the whole forest, although they were faint and seemingly far away from him, he could sense the dark elements in his surroundings getting faintly restrained by these fluctuations.

Only an element can suppress another element. The fact that the dark element was being slightly restrained meant only one thing: There was another element suppressing it and the element that could do so was light!

People from the Church of Light!

Jaime was aghast as he speeded up towards the west, he realised the growing danger and also the need to exit the forest as soon as possible.

No matter how secluded one lived, there was no way they didn't hear about the Church of Light. They were one of the foremost forces in the entire Continent and abhorred evil. Which in this case was him: a walking, talking skeleton and to top it all off he was also a dark mage. There was no way the Church was going to spare him.

Although Jaime didn't know what magic spell was at play, but he could feel as if those light magic fluctuations trying to track him down, and were very efficient in doing so. He could clearly feel it, those light magic fluctuations becoming steadily stronger.

"These have already tracked me down!", Jaime cried out.

Although Jaime was running with all he could, his speed couldn't compare with the red horses of the Church which were renowned and bred for their speed.

"This search magic is indeed effective.", Sir Luthur spoke as he hurried his horse towards Jaime's direction.

One of the radiant knights who followed him closely nodded in response but didn't say anything as he kept casting the search magic spell. This was one of the exclusive spells researched and made by a grand light magister, it was not to be taken lightly. It was capable of narrowing down and pin-pointing the location of any being that practiced dark magic, it was effective up to a range of ten kilometres. The only disadvantage of the spell would be the huge mental stamina consumption accompanied by it and hence it couldn't be maintained for long.

"Jake Gyllenhaal, You don't need to expend so much of your stamina to keep using the search spell. Tell us the general location of the vile being and leave the rest to us.", Sir Luthur said with concern as he noticed the paling face of his old friend.

After making a tough choice, Jake clenched his teeth and didn't continue with the spell, "Sir Luthur, the vile creature is another one kilometre ahead of us, heading sharp west."

"I will be going ahead then!", with a shout Sir Luthur leaped off his horse and disappeared after a few steps. Jake and the remaining radiant knights could only watch with a helpless smile as their battle-loving captain went on ahead.

It didn't take long before Jaime found himself in a tough spot. He was in his midst of an hurried escape when he noticed a middle-aged man suddenly overtake and block his path.
