Chapter 2: Some demons we can’t see

After the birthday party, Damien and Angelina have been inseparable they were always the best of friends, but there were times when they were separated because they couldn't exactly spend their whole lives together there would always be a time when they went apart. In middle school they were separated they went to different schools and didn't see each other for all of their middle school years. Both Damien and Angelina had trouble making friends during this time they were both the outcast ones and no one paid attention to them, but it was around this time that they learned the world is bigger than them.

On the first day of school Angelina walked into her home room when the bell rang and the day began, the teacher wanted to learn more about everyone so she put everyone into a circle and tried to get them to share who they are and tell everyone about one another. Angelina didn't pay attention not even when it was her turn she just told the teacher pass in a weak voice. The day went by very slowly for her she wanted to just walk out and leave and she almost did when she noticed that someone had already beaten her to it. Sitting right next to the door in a corner crying was a young blonde girl crying, Angelina walks over to her and asks her,

"What's wrong?",

"My parents got a divorce." she whimpers in response, at this moment Angelina learned about how there are people in the world who are less fortunate than her, which is why she was never talked to ever she was always the one who thought she had it the worst and was so full of herself. No one opened their arms to her because she wouldn't open her arms to anyone else.

"I am so so sorry." she says as she hugs her with sympathy, "I wish I could do something for you I really do, but all I can offer you right now is my friendship."

"That will do." the girl says in response, "and my name is Holly by the way.".

"Mine is Angelina." she responds,

"Angelina, such a nice name you must have great parents."

"Well I never thought they were great because it seemed like they barely cared for me."

" if they were the ones who put a place for you and food for you on the table then care about you they just don't show it often, or you just don't notice." Angelina finally made a new friend and continued to make more and she opened her arms to people a lot more.

Damien started middle school and also tried making more friends, he already got a head start by having a couple friends from elementary follow him here. The way he made new friends was he tried to relate to people the best way he could but the way he related was an odd way, around the first couple of classes he met a few people in class who already started saying things like, I can't do this i'm too much of a failure, and Damien would respond by saying,

"Dude I can relate." once again during lunch he sat with a group of kids who claimed that they were all miserable and they each shared their back story explaining why they are such failures, they each bond the same way and finally Damien found people to bond with, what he learned that day was that no matter how different a single flower is no matter what color or type it is there will always be a garden to welcome it with open arms.

Middle school continued to go by they made a few friends and they had drama every once in a while, Angelina had some drama happen at one point. One friend in her group named Emma was more depressed then mostly all of them but her Angelina were close friends, thy often bonded over chess and they have come to each other's houses and have shown each other their pictures and history. Like how Angelina's sister would always run away and how Emma lost her pet dogs that she's had since she was a kid they felt sympathy for one another and they were good friends. Soon after Emma stopped coming to school for a while but Angelina didn't notice because she was still being more social then she was before and when she finally came back Angelina confessed that she didn't notice, and Emma didn't take well to that, so she didn't talk to Angelina for a few days and Angelina felt terrible that she never noticed her best friend was gone and she felt like such a terrible friend she wanted to try and kill herself. On the night she tried to kill herself she took a razor and came close to her wrist but she forgot to lock the bathroom door and her sister caught her,

"What the hell are you doing?" she yelled, before Angelina could explain herself her sister, Amelia, ran over to her and grabbed the hand that was holding the razor and pulled it away, Angelina struggled to keep it in her hand which was a mistake because during the struggle Angelina's hand holding the razor slipped and stabbed her sister in the chest. Amelia slowly fell down to the floor as Angelina screamed for their parents to come help, their mom was still at work so only their dad responded he quickly came to the bathroom and didn't think he just ran straight to a phone to call an ambulance.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to." Angelina says while tears run down her face.

"It's OK i'm the only injured one here." Amelia responds while bleeding out,

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is your still just as self absorbed as you've always been. When you try to kill yourself your not just hurting yourself your hurting everyone else."

"I don't deserve to live I'm a horrible person."

"No one deserves to be punished like this especially not you. You have people here who care about you, when you try to take the easy way out you may think that it's best for everyone but your only scarring them forever. Everyone who cares about you will be hurt and disappointed in you, and you might be happy about it but what will we think, what will I think."

"I never thought you cared about me, I never thought you cared about anyone because you were always running away."

"I was always running away because I thought I didn't deserve a sister like you, or a family like this, but don't worry I'll never run away from you ever again, I will be as close as I can to you. I love you."

"I love you too." Angelina could not stop herself from crying, she's not even the one in pain, but it still hurts so much. The ambulance finally came Amelia was taken away, Angelina didn't even want to follow she didn't know what else to do she just ran to Damien. She knew where he lived and it wasn't that long of a run but she still made it to his house. Damien took her in,

"What's wrong what happened?" he asked

"My sister is in the ER. I didn't know where else to go." she responded still drowning in her own tears. Damien took her in and sat with her and comforted her in this time of need

"She'll be OK she's strong I know she'll make it." Damien said

"I know she will be but it's what she told me."

"What did she say?". Angelina told him about the talk she had with her sister about how she hurts others when she tries to commit suicide, Damien told her it was true but asked why it hurts so much. She responded by saying because I'll never forget it, it will haunt me for the rest of my life just like my demons.

"It's true." Damien says, "we all have our demons, they haunt us and they always talk to us, they tell us all the negative things about ourselves, they make us think that we're not good enough but that doesn't mean it's true."

"But they are right, and they speak the absolute truth."

"I know how you feel I've had demons for as long as you have had yours and they tell me to end it but i'm still here i'm still able to fight my demons because they tell me about everything that I've lost and what I do to fight them is I think about all I have left, I have you, I have my cat, I have enough to fight them."

"Damien I am still fighting them I just don't know how much longer I can manage to stand against them." Damien looks at her in the eyes.

"These things we call demons are actually just memories bad memories, and our memories make us who we are. The bad ones tell us who we could be, the best ones tell us who we should be."

Angelina took what Damien said to heart and when she went back to school she told about what happened and all her friends comforted her, and Emma came up to her and apologized, saying she overreacted and caused all of this to happen. Angelina realized that she was right but still managed to forgive her and they continued to be best friends. A couple of weeks passed Amelia managed to recover and she came home, her and Angelina became closer as sisters then they ever were before, Angelina continued to fight her demons and everything began to get better. Through high school this event followed her but she didn't let it stop her every day she went to school or left her house she always put on the biggest smile she had and always hoped that today would be better than yesterday and that tomorrow will be better than today and she continued to make more memories, better memories.
