"I don't care if you were a Knight or had a sad backstory. You've touched my sister and hurt her. I will not show mercy to those who tread on my bottom line!" yelled Duncan as he allowed Lancelot to slash his arm.
With his blood spilling out, Duncan unleashed his Blood Mastery by turning his blood into webs. The boy flicked his hand, causing the newly woven red threads to shoot forwards, and sliced the Knight's head, torso, and legs off. It happened so quickly that Mordred couldn't comprehend it.
The Knight of Rebellion was trying her best to heal Midori's wound by using Midori's stored blood as Duncan battled Lancelot.
Sure, Midori could heal her limbs in no time during the Infinite Experiments, but being struck by a Divine Weapon was a different matter. It was taking longer than usual. Within Midori's mind, the fox child lay on the ground with her head on Mordred's lap.
"Damn it, young fox... Mavislin will kill me if she finds that I allowed you to jump into harm's way like some sacrificial lamb for love... I've already died once, and I don't plan to do that again for the next few hundred years if I could help it. So please do me a favor and live!" yelled Mordred.
"I couldn't save my friends back in those chambers because I was too afraid of dying. I felt so helpless because I wasn't in the same room as them. So many children died because of experimentations and abuse with their bodies piling up like leaves."
"I witnessed kids younger than I kill themselves in hopes of escaping the living nightmare while I was being treated with a bed and meals. I vowed never to do that again, to watch people die as long as I've got powers. If not, then what's the point of being a Mage?" asked Midori.
"But it doesn't mean you should aimlessly sacrifice yourself!" yelled Mordred as she clenched her fists.
"Being a Mage doesn't mean you should throw your life away in the face of danger. Having powers doesn't mean you are invincible, so you shouldn't mindlessly sacrifice yourself just for others to live, even if he is your brother."
"If that's the case, then Mavislin and the other Mages would've been dead! You don't see them dying left right center from the excuse of protecting others!" shouted Mordred, her eyes tearing up with sadness.
Midori was shocked as she felt a tear drop onto her cheek.
"That's how powerful Mages are; they can devise a way to protect themselves without costing their lives. Sure, in some events like a high-powered spell, Mages have been recorded to die while unleashing those spells, but this situation isn't the same."
"I could've thrown my sword to block the attack! You didn't have to use your body as a meat shield! You have to treasure your life and find a way to protect the lesser ones from dying. What's the point of you dying now from a single attack? What comes next?"
"The enemy will strike again, regardless of your heroic act of saving another person. Because to the opponent, you have committed suicide and voluntarily lost the battle. That's a shameful thing to do as a person with a soul. However, you were saved a Mage, so pass it on."
"Don't let Mavislin and the Pillars' efforts go to waste by dying here. Live on because you have the chance to while didn't. Use your powers as a Mage to conjure up a spell to deflect the attack or push Duncan out of harm's way. You aren't a Saint..."
"You are just a child burdened by your blood, so you shouldn't be thinking this way. It isn't your fault... You are too young to understand the weight of your life. Don't be weighed down by the fact that you should give your life up for others. Be selfish for once! Say that you are willing to live!"
"Because... It's just too cruel to see a young life dying in a battle she was never meant to be in. That's why I was summoned, to protect you. To make sure that you will live your days happily and healthily despite the painful past that you've endured. So let me do my job of serving my King..."
"Okay?" begged the Knight of Rebellion, wiping her tears away.
Midori nodded and smiled at the Knight while reaching out to Mordred to play with her hair.
"I hear you, Mordred Pendragon. I promise I'll never use my life to protect others and instead strive to find a better solution. I shouldn't die for my loved ones; I should live for them... It's a pinky promise, okay?" asked Midori, holding out her pinky finger.
"Pinky promise."
