Du Ru Ran became an orphan at the age of 5 years old after a deliberate car accident. She was then taken in by her uncle. Life was truly tragic but being a smart girl, she managed to turn the tides around. She plans to avenge the death of her parents and her little brother who she did not get to meet in this lifetime. At that time, thank her lucky or unlucky star, she met a pair of mother and son, who gave her some warmth in her moment of total darkness. 

Years later, when they meet again, he stuck to her like a fly she could not get rid off. He kept insisting she took advantage of him when they were young and insisted that she take full responsibility for him.

20 years ago:
"Little girl, you really need to take responsibility on this young master when we are older. I am never going to let you go." He whispered into her ears. Due to his illness, he somehow grew up a little mature than peers his age. Hence, it wasn't a normal for him to be thinking about his future at such young age. In fact, since he was three years old, he had been groomed to be a fine young man in order to prepare him as he is the next heir of his prestigious family. He fell asleep with a smile on his face.

At the present:
She thought a dumb cupid made a mistake by accidentally release an arrow and the arrow went straight to a 7 year old boy and now, 20 years later, he is delusional.

"Why can't you leave me alone? I really have no time, no room for another person. I am pretty occupied with getting my revenge. Go and fly away," she said while making the hand gestures of shooing a pesky fly away.

"You really don't need to work hard on my behalf, I am touched that you worry about my well being and feeling. As long as I get to see you, that is all I require. You really don't have to do anything."

Ru Ran felt her head is going to explode, shameless, when did I, how on earth did he manage to lift himself so high that even direct language don't get to his thick skull? Fine, if you don't want to leave, I will walk away.

True to her thoughts she walked away huffing and puffing, fuming at the fly she can't get off.

"Wifey wait up!!!"

"Seriously, what do you see in me?" she asked impatiently. 

Instead of answering her immediately, he spun he around to face him, pushed her to lean against a nearby wall, locked her body with his legs and arm in order to stop her from escaping. His facial expression turn serious, gone the silly demeanor he had put up earlier. 

Her heartbeat increased and her palms started to sweat. She stuttered, "What.. What.. Just what do you plan to do?" 

"I am going to answer your question. Look me in the eyes. I see a beautiful lady, a stubborn one, cold exterior but inside she is kind and afraid to get hurt. She gave me a kiss 20 years ago and gave me the strength to live and from that day onwards, I have given my heart to her."

My reflection in your eyes

Listening to the sound of his heart beat had always managed to calm her, slowly she drifted to sleep. However, her brain was restless, and she could not sleep properly, she had a constant fear of returning to a point where she was truly helpless, everytime she stirred in her sleep, he would pat her and press her closer to him.


He could hear her calling out his name, he didn't know if he should be happy or sad at her current condition. Happy to know she loves him as much but sad that she is suffering because of the fear of losing him. Soon, it was time for lunch, the doctors came in, he woke her up so that the doctors could check her gag reflex and test her swallowing reflex. She was cleared to eat but the doctors allowed her to drink water and eat porridge or soup only. She nodded her head obediently.


Not long after, Mama Shen came in with two thermos container, one containing chicken soup and the other porridge, both something she had personally prepared. Ji Yu's eyes moistened, "Mummy, the doctor only just gave me the clearance to eat..."


"To be honest, mummy had been preparing these daily and when your condition remained the same, she just left them outside at the hall instead of bring them in, now that you can eat, naturally she is happy to let you taste. She never had a chance to pamper a pregnant daughter in law, " explained Ji Yu with warmth in his eyes.


Ru Ran eyes widened and could not help but reach out for her mother in law, the woman who never ceased to amaze her.


She then tugged Mama Shen closer and gave her a heartfelt hug. Her tears flowed out without warning damping Mama Shen clothes.


"Silly girl, what is there to cry about, you need to take care of your health, it's normal for mummy to treat her daughter well, plus, son are not the same as daughter," she said as she looked at Ji Yu teasingly.


This time it was Sister Fong who entered also with a can of thermos, she brought over chicken soup to help nourish Ru Ran's health.


Ru Ran eyes that had just dried up, glistened again, this life, she is truly gonna cherish it, she had wasted many years in isolation and depression. If it wasn't for Ji Yu, maybe she would never have found this warmth. She then urged the people around her to eat as well but none of them except Ji Yu took up her offer.


"Yu, the food is made to nourish pregnant lady, why don't you get your own food? Mummy and Sister Fong will accompany Ran, go, and please shower too, you smell,"  Mama Shen said as she chased Ji Yu away.


"Seriously that boy, can't seem to have the heart to be apart from his wife for even one second," she said smilingly.


Ru Ran almost choked on her food when she heard those words. Ji Yu who was about to go, quickly pat her back and hesitated to leave.


"Go.. I am fine, you do smell a little," said Ru Ran scrunching her nose to make a point.


She quickly covered his mouth and pinch his waist. He let out a big laugh while avoiding her attack.


"I need to tell the doctor that you may not need any physiotherapy looking at the way you are demonstrating your strength now," he joked happily.


Indeed today is a good day, for the past weeks when she was bed bound and unable to move, nothing could really make him laugh, now that she is alright, his heart no longer heavy and felt free like a bird. His smile could not be more genuine, the nurses on duty, could not help but be mesmerised at the sight of a man who was smiling freely like he just won a lottery. As much as they wanted to gaze longer, they quickly look away, for they know in that man's heart only one woman exist, the one behind the door.


Many nurses had lost their job or had been transfer out just because the tried to make a move on that very man. Now that his wife had recovered, whatever slim chance they think they had, blew away in an instant.
