Melody woke up to another day. It was slightly hard going through this confusing change, but she was Melody-sama, a strong and individual person that could go through even these weird times. Or maybe her mind was just weirder. That was probably it.
Melody began her day like normal, and then she was reminded by the fact that she'd have to go to school tomorrow. She almost dreaded it. She had died, ok. Why couldn't the gods leave her with a nice life, with her sipping on coconuts in some paradise that imitated Hawaii.
Of course, this was not the case, and Melody was soon reminded of the fact that she had no money. No money, that was the huge problem here. She suspected that by the next week she would not have enough funds to support herself. Then, what was the point of reincarnating. Of course, the government would give her some funds since she was a minor, but there was no freedom in that. So Melody ventured out, like yesterday to find a job.
She was slightly sleepy, so she quietly yawned as she was working out. After a ten minute walk, once again guided by her phone, she was in the city as exactly 9:00 am. She stepped into the first shop that she saw, which turned out to be a small bookstore... selling magic guides?
She walked in, and the bell rang. A old man hobbled out, and seeing Melody, he looked at her with a knowing smile.
"Here to find work, right?"
Melody nodded and smiled. The man looked at her before taking out a white glowing ball. Put your hand on this. Melody cautiously placed her right hand onto the ball, and felt a slight heartbeat. The ball turned green.
"Ah, it's telling me to accept you... but should I?" The man spoke aloud.
The ball pulsated again, this time an even brighter green.
"Alright my friend, I will.. I will" The man spoke, stroking the ball carefully.
The ball seemed to purr in satisfaction, and faded into a neutral colour.
"Alright, you're accepted. What's your name?" The man looked up at her with a toothy smile.
That was it? No interview. He just told her to touch the ball and that was it? Melody was slightly confused, but she had found a job, so she should be happy... right?
The man looked at her and pulled out a piece of paper from thin air "Today can be a trial day, and you do school right?"
The man inspected her with one eye and nodded.
"Hmm you do, I like an educated worker"
Melody spoke up "what am I supposed to do?"
"Just clean up the books when customers come over, manage the cash register. Don't think that because this is a magic store that things work any different. It's like any other ol' store"
And with that, Melody's journeys of stacking, retrieving and tidying books began. Hey, at least she found a job, alright!
