Chapter 22: The Assassin

Kathleen Remes' POV

I cannot believe that the assassination would happen during dinner, and to make things worse, I haven't had the chance to say to Kai that I was in love with him.

yes. It was hard to acknowledge that feeling and meanwhile as my father had asked him to be my husband, I have not been in the same room as he was first introduced to me.

I was still hiding under the table with Kai when he suddenly pulled me under. I was not complaining about the cramped space that made every move tingled with sensation of his heat but I was more concerned with the current situation which means that I have to be under here until the situation was clear.

"Stay here," Kai said as he was looking at me. I scoffed at him as I was trying to get out and pursue that assassin. How dare he tried to ruin my honeymoon that was being paid by my father!

"no, I will not let you go after him alone," I said as I took his wrist. He looked at me in the eyes as I would not back down with him. Not for the reason that he will be going to suicide himself.

"Kathleen," he whispered

"don't," I said as I pulled him to kiss him on the lips. I hope that my feeling will be portrayed in this as we were here in this situation that we might not be walking out alive.

"I'm sorry," I said as I cuffed his wrists to the table.

"Kathleen, what are you doing?!" He said as he was panicked. I went out of the table and after the assassin. I saw the figure as he was running toward the upstairs, around our quarters. So he must be instructed to take us out there as well.

I went to our quarter and saw there was something inside the room. The assassin was on the window as he turned to look at me. I saw his lean figure but nothing more except his eyes. It was green as meadow but he could be disguised it.

"stop," I said as I was looking at him. I was wearing a long dress so there was nothing much that I can do in it. I can hardly move in it. I can see his eyes were glistening like he was smiling before he saluted at me and went to jump from the window. It was on the fourth-floor .i went to the window to see that he was running through the castle ground. I gritted my teeth.

"Kathleen!" Kai's voice was coming closer. I ripped my dress without thinking as it will be at my thighs. I have to go after him with or without Kai. And of course, he would not want me to be in danger. I went to the window as Kai was at the door.

"Kathleen, don't," he warned me but I just shrugged myself and I went to jump to the ground anyway.

I landed on my feet like a cat before I went to pursue him. He was running through the garden as I did not have any slippers on. Clever indeed. I was looking for another option when I saw a swing around it. I smiled.

I climbed up the swing and went to the roof. I was following him from the high point so that I can see where he was making the turn and I would not lose him. It was a simple plan until he went to camouflage inside the forest.

"damn it," I said as I went to the ground as I was trying to decipher which way did he went to. I was looking for tracks, scent or anything that I can work with. suddenly, someone tackled me from behind. I grunted as I was hitting the ground as he went to hold me onto the neck and my hands on my back.

"don't make it harder than it is, princess," he said gruffly as I was trying to get out of his hold. He was strong I gave him that but he was not smart or fast enough to see my next move.

"it already is," I said before I twisted my wrists and I pushed myself from the ground resulting his body to stumble a few steps back as I was landed on the ground, arms ready for battle.

"so, you want to play, well, let's play," he said before he took out daggers in both hands. I rolled my eyes at him as he thinks I was scared of it.

"please, your move," I said as I went toward him. He was moving his dagger as he moved toward me. I slipped from his hands as I maneuvered through it and I went to kick his legs. He grunted before I went to snap the daggers out of his hand.

he looked at me as he went a couple of steps back and it was not that long before he disappeared in the shadows.

"till we meet again, princess," he said as he looked at me with his intense green orbs before they went black. I was about to go after him before someone scooped me up and threw me onto their shoulder.

"Hey!" I shouted as I looked at the familiar blackhead. Of course, it was none other than my pissed husband.

"haven't you learned anything from the past?" He shouted as he was trying to keep me still when I was struggling to get out of his hands. He smacked me on the butts and I went silent as I gasped at the contact.

"did you just—" another one hit my butt. I gasped again before I looked at his head. He was looking straight ahead before I rolled my eyes at him.

"Kai, stop that," I said as I was trying to get out of him.

"Kathleen, stop. From now on, you will listen to me and you will listen," he said as he was getting inside the castle. I don't know who was watching but I wanted to hide under the cover or the ground just swallowed me whole now.

"Kai, my dress," I said before his hand went to cover my short-ripped dress.

"Now you know why I was mad, love," he said before he was running through the doors before he went to our quarter. He was kicking the door down before he locked it. He threw me across the bed and I was trying to get up before he came over me.

"you should never have done that! Are you losing your mind, Kathleen?!" Okay, mad was an understatement. He was furious. I never saw Kai furious with me before as his sea-green eyes were blazing with fire, anger. I gulped as I glued to the spot.

"Answer me!" He shouted and I was looking into his eyes. He was barely controlling his anger as I was looking into his eyes.

"I thought that maybe—"

"maybe you can take him down yourself? For god's sake, Kathleen, you could have died. And do you have any idea what would happen to me if you die?" He said as he dropped himself from on top of me and went to sit at the edge of the bed.

He was running his fingers through his sleek hair as I was getting up from the bed. My dress was ridden to my stomach before I settled it down a bit, to cover my stomach and my exposed knickers. Kai was rubbing his face again before he looked at me.

"do you think when you jump from the window, Kathleen? You could have twisted your legs or died from the height," he said quietly as he took my hands into his. He kissed my knuckles and I melted at the sight.

"I'm sorry. I thought that—"

"I would not want anything to happen to you, my love," he said as he looked into my eyes. I was looking into his eyes as they were shining with anger, frustration, love. I would not acknowledge that as it has been poison in my life until he came along.

"I'm sorry," I said as I took my hand and caressed his cheeks. He leaned into my touch.

"you should," he replied.

"let me make up to you," I whispered to him as my hot breath was caressing his face. He chuckled as he looked into my eyes.

"not all can be solved with that, you know," he said as he touched his forehead with mine. I smiled at him.

"well, it could be one way for us," I said. He smiled again before he pushed me onto the mattress.

"well, since you asked," he smirked at me as he went to kiss my stomach before I laughed at his caveman style after denying it.

"what do you expect, my love? That I deny you, never again," he said as he was stripping off from his clothes. I went to take off my dress as well.

"We learned that the hard way," I said before he jumped on top of me and kissed me. I think my pursuit of the assassin might have gone bad but Kai would never stay mad with me for long.
