The Legend Of Sacrifice!

...

*..shuu*

A bright light blinded his vision the moment the Systems countdown reached zero. When the light completely vanished and his sight restored, the first thing he did was scan his foreign surroundings.

He was in the middle of, what he assumed to be the Gods court. But it was different than he had imagined it to be. The sky over the disc like world was dark and ugly, the god seats enclosing the shrine deserted. What happened to make the court lose its glory to such point? To look so lackluster?

"System, what happened here? Where are the gods?" Nei asked in confusion.

But no answer came, it was as quiet as the moment he arrived. He couldn't understand the reality before him. Why was everything so different from what he imagined? Was the Systems Interpretation of what he wanted this bad?

"Without the game interface I might have thought I was abandoned here by the System.." Looking at the 3D interface that was positioned before him, Nei knew that he was in a game. He just didn't know the reason why he couldn't communicate with the System yet.

Looking at the many floating interface symbols all over his sight, Nei felt dizzy. "How will I ever understand what they're all for?", angrily he shouted "Why is there no guide to introduce me? I might be the creator but I would still be thankful for some help. Didn't the System say I can adjust things with only my thoughts?"

That's when, like out of nowhere, an old man appeared. He had hair and beard colored in white, making him look wiser than the average old men. He was walking out from behind the God's seats with a crooked bearing.

"My name is Ageres, I am the humble spirit of this court, here to help newly emerging gods such as yourself!" The wise old men looked at Nei, walking without his foot touching the ground even once.

"Ageres huh? Can you explain to me the functions of this interface, if you're my guide?" Smiling at the pleasant looking men, Nei asked.

"Interface? Such things don't exist here. Might you mean the 'God's authority'? If I couldn't even explain such common knowledge to you, do you think I would be called Ageres the all knowing spirit?" With a proud face Ageres boosted.

Seeing the old men's arrogant expression, Nei had to give his all to stifle his laughter. The men resembled his imagination of the Systems appearance to much.

"What is so funny? You don't believe me? Heh, let me ask you, do you see the numbers at the top left corner? They are there to inform you of the amount of followers in the mainland and the divine kingdom you have. What about the illustration of the human under it, you ask? Well you can open it with your mind power, it will reveal a window in your vision that gives you every information you need about yourself. For example your God rank, divinity, special abilities, past and other secrets. Impressive right? Ah, what was your name again?"

Ageres asked having a confusion filled expression. 'Why can't I access any information of this god? Something feels of..'

"Haha yes yes, such an impressive spirit. You can call me Nei if you want, I have another question for you Ageres—where did all the gods go? Why does the Gods court look so deserted and unkempt?" To Nei the conversation with Ageres felt somehow comically, he had to use all his determination to keep a serious face throughout the interaction. He found it difficult to concentrate on Ageres words and their meaning.

When Ageres heard Nei's question, his expression changed to one of sadness with a hint of fury flashing through his eyes. "Ahh.. the olden gods. Listen good young god, I will tell you the legend of the gods sacrifice only once!"

At that moment Ageres waved his hand over Nei making everything around him become filled in darkness. Before a cinematic video started playing.

In the video, there was the court to be seen. But what it showed was a picture completely different from what he saw just seconds ago. Many god's were seen interacting and discussing with each other, and even old men Agere was flying through the courts sky, managing every part of the discs maintenance. It looked full of life.

While the camera perspective was floating through the god's court; voices of men women and children started chanting. First the voices were to far for Nei to understand, but with the passing of time they became louder. Till Nei grasped their contents.

"The gods are eternal—the gods are our shepherds—our protectors—glory to them—eternity to them!"

Listening to old and young, sick and sad, crying and laughing voices, continuously chant the same prayer again and again. Nei felt the true power of faith for the first time in his life.

At that moment when the voices became too loud to understand, everything disappeared. Nei's vision went back to black and the voices stopped. Complete darkness and silence was enclosing him.

When out of the darkness a deep powerful, yet holy feeling yell resounded. "Brothers and Sisters, our time of waiver has come! Evil powers are slowly creeping into our world, the realm and it's people are in danger!... I swore them! To protect them! To let no harm Befall them! If we let the evil enter, we will fail them all.. I can't force any of you, but I beg you in the name of your devoted followers—Let's drive this evil away! Together, let's fight to the death, to decide our and the realms destiny! Let us sacrifice for generations to come!"

When the transcended being ended it's emotion filled speech, the war cry's of god's and devotes followed; sounding like terrifying thunder through the whole land.

For eternity! Oh gods, our shepherds! Protectors! Glory to the Realm! Eternity to them! Bless them! For the future!

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Fight! fight! fig..!

The last picture Nei saw were the rivers and oceans soaked in blood, stars falling from the sky onto the land, and the faithful followers throwing themselves on the ground praying and crying to the sky.

When it ended, and Nei found himself back, standing before Ageres. Even he had tears rolling down his cheeks. He couldn't believe that what he had seen was all fake! How could such conviction be imagined? But looking at the interface that was obstructing his vision, Nei knew deep down that everything was just a game.

When Ageres saw Nei coming back to conscious, he spoke. "Shedding tears isn't shameful young god, it means you have not yet lost yourself to power. The ones who wouldn't cry before such scenes are the broken ones, the shame of our Realm. I know you have many questions, but first let me explain to you what you have seen. It happened a 1000 years ago, before that fateful day, the realm of god's was prosperous. There was conflict of course—conflict between good and bad, chaotic and neutral, but that hatred wasn't to the point of sacrificing the realms well-being. However when that day came, everything changed. The gods fought a war against the evil outlanders, giving their best to protect us all. Many divine kingdoms and god's extinguished on that day, but they held the evil back. Yet both god's and outlanders sustained grave wounds, forcing them into deep slumbers till this day. You're the first to ascend to godhood since that day. The realms safety lies in your hands now, use your power wisely. if you need guidance come to the court and speak my name, I will appear!" With these as his last words the spirit vanished before Nei's eyes.

Seeing Ageres vanish, Nei thoughts became complicated. "The plot is better than I thought.. and with VR it's even more immersive. Maybe one day I can help all of earth to experience this… I really don't want to test in god's mode anymore.. I just want to play from the perspective of a player!.. But before that I have to at least check the general construction of the gameplay and world first. After that I can still go and try players mode." Having decided his next course of action, Nei wielded his thoughts, making him appear outside the realm.

Looking down from high above, onto the plane, Nei reflected on his experience. 'What can be improved? First let's add some descriptions to the interface buttons. The explanation of the spirit wasn't comprehensive enough. I should probably check out the divine kingdom and mainland a little bit more after that too. Except this, the rest can be done from the player perspective.. it can't be helped, someone has to do it—the sooner I start the sooner I finish.'
