Knowledge Is Seeking Power!

Nei left the mainlands observation mode when he noticed, that even with time advancing at 10 times the normal speed, it would still take over an hour for the new members of his church to arrive at their destination. Besides that, the two priest didn't even finish their task yet either, still diligently building accommodations.

Leaving them to their own matters, Nei decided to teleport back in his divine kingdoms tower. But when he re-entered, a row of difficult to oversee text appeared on his screen.

[Quest: The church's beginning-Accomplished]

[Church's location: Human continent/North/Vasurgard.

Reward: One recruitment option]

Seeing the quest accomplished, and the 'One recruitment option', Nei was becoming excited. Getting his first powerful follower was as important as building his first church. With only peasants, that had no powerful body's or magical abilities, it would be difficult to expand his influence any further in Vasurgard. However with an Angel or other powerful being as his follower, everything would change.

Nei wouldn't be able to take Vasurgardas his own, but at the very least he would have the ability to compete with the city lords power and authority.

Nei knew that without power even an Orthodox Church with a true god like him, wouldn't survive long. Because the Realm was a place for only the strongest, the weak were destined to be buried in its history books only.

Moving his character through the tower, Nei walked into the Hall that had a long table with many chairs—the meeting room. Sitting down on the seat at the most end of the table, a window opened itself before him.

Deploy Mainland: -Vasurgard church-]

Looking at the displayed options, Nei thought. 'I can't take a demon, it would be difficult to explain to my followers. The angel looks.. well also not the greatest option.. I think Fahjar is the best for me. My divinity is knowledge, and Magician are searching for knowledge and truth. Then it's decided!'

Clicking on the selection symbol behind Fahjar, the magician appeared from nowhere, sitting on the chair besides Nei.

He had the typical appearance of an mage, old nd wise.

Seeing the mage not dare to look into his eyes, Nei clicked and moved him into the deployment section, to be exact onto Vasurgard. When he finished a scripted sequence started.

"I will send you back to the mainland, the human realm in the city Vasurgard. There you will help the first of my loyal followers to expand our influence in the mainland. Pray to me if you need me, and I shall listen! Now go forth!"

With the end of the scripted scene, the mage was teleported.

..

.

On the other side, while Nei was recruiting a helper, many things happened to his church in Vasurgard.

When the lonely priest with his 50 followers arrived back, the other two priests had just finished building a log house.

With the arrival of new blood, the building of houses started to go faster. First the rest of the accommodations were finished, so that everyone had a space to eat and rest.

What followed, was the expansion of the land around the church. The trees and weed that was stopping them, was chopped and trimmed, after which new things were built on the opened space.

Through the days, more and more civilians couldn't hold their feet in Vadurgard anymore. The fear before the unknown was growing to such highs, that it was impossible for them to ignore. This brought many of them right into the churches hands.

With the increasing amount of leaving civilians, the city lord finally started to take notice of the church's growing influence.

A towns lord as himself was nothing without subjects to feed his power. Even if the lord had magical powers, it would still be harmful to his authority, losing so many citizens at once.

In the end Lord Vasurgard couldn't hold his fury any longer. He declared the Ramen church to be followers of the devil, that had to be wiped out for the good of the realm.

Sending his most loyal troop to enforce his ruling, he hoped to never again be bothered by this cult.

..

"Captain, we have almost arrived at the church's location! Shouldn't we continue from here on more quietly? Ambushing the followers unprepared would be the best, wouldn't it be?" It was the strategist Azrerat of the city troops that spoke.

The captain, unhappily shook his head. "What do you hold our troops for, Azrerat? They've gone through years of training and survived every campaign till now. Do you think this newly established church has any chance to win? They don't even have troops, only civilians! Civilians that never held a weapon, and would surrender at the first sign of defeat. Do you really think it is wise, to ambush, and corner them? Defeat the will, not the body Azrerat!"

Azrerat could only sheepishly look at the ground. The Captain's reply was only this harsh, because he didn't like how Azrerat got his position as strategist.

Azrerat was the son of an influential figure in this region, making the captain suspect if he was really qualified for his position. The captain didn't like people that got their position, not through hard work, but bribery.

At that moment a man came riding close to the Captain to deliver a message, when the captain heard what the messenger had to say, he opened his mouth and yelled at his troops. "Prepare for battle! The enemy is not far anymore! Shields to the front, archers to the back, riders flanks them! Keep order, keep marching, and only attack at my order"

At the captain's command, the more than 100 men big army, gathered in formation. This wasn't their first time getting ordered. Nothing went wrong and everyone found their position at a speed unachievable to untrained men.

Keeping a step by step marching speed. They could slowly see the top of the enemies church.

Not even a few minutes later the captain and his troops arrived at the gates of the small, newly build settlement. Where they were greeted, by 40 dirty and poor looking men, with farming tools as weapons in their hands. Besides these there were 3 priest, who had real well kept swords and armor on them.

One of the priest walked out from the group and spoke, when he saw, who he believed to be the invaders leader. "What do you want here! This is the holy ground of our god! Leave with your troops, before the fury of our lord will grind you, and your men to pieces!"

The captain broke out in ruptures laughter, when he saw the look of fearlessness and deviance, in the eyes of the priest. "Hahaha, priest look around you! You're surrounded by poor beggars, that don't care about your god, but only profit! The lord of Vasurgard, has decreed your church as a devils cult! Your god can't help you against the world's law! Burn your church down, give up your faith, and throw your weapons down! If you do, you might have a chance to be redeemed!"

The priest knew that there was no sense in continuing the talk when he heard the captain's words. The men before him wouldn't shy away before his threats, as long as they didn't see the power of his lord. So he did what every priest did if they're trapped in a hopeless situation. He went down on his knees and prayed.

Being ignored, the captain lost the last bit of good will he had for all of them. "Hmn, you dare ignore me! Kill them all, take no surrenders!"

When Azrerat heard the captain's words, he couldn't help but shudder. Normally when he interacted with his soldiers, the captain would always be friendly and forgiving. But the moment he stepped foot on the battlefield his whole demeanor changed, into an emotionless killer machine.

The man that went through many campaigns with the captain, on the other hand were already used to it, and followed their commands. Storming in the mass of defenseless peasants to kill them.

From the front the shield and sword holder, behind the archers, and from the sides riders started to attack. The formation looked like a hungry beast, ready to swallow the whole group of enemies in only a few more seconds.

When out of nowhere, a dome of light so bright that it blinded everyone, descended from the sky!
