Bad news

"Brain dead? What do you mean brain dead? How can a couple of seizures result to that?"

"Calm down Mr Nevel or do you want Amanda to hear you" She closed the door fully

"I'm saying that brain damage is a possible outcome but its not a hundred percent certain, we could make a medical breakthrough tomorrow or in the next hour nobody knows"

"Are you calm now?"

"Yes"

"Sometimes miracles that go beyond the scope of science can also occur. Amanda might just wake in the morning without any trace of the second set of brainwave anymore and this will all turn into a bad memory"

"..."

"I have to thank you, because of little Amanda over there we might just be able to take one step forward in brain medicine and even if we are unable to help her we might be able to save another little girl or boy in the future"

Mr Nevel became teary eyed. He rubbed them clear with his wrist. Later in the evening i was discharged and went home with Mr Nevel. The drive home was a quiet one.

Mr Nevel tried to smile but the grief in his heart couldn't let him. At that moment i didn't know what was going on nor anything about the news he got from doctor Bright but it didn't matter to me anyway because this wasn't my body but i knew i couldn't stay for another full day, i had to get what i came for and jump back immediately before the migraine starts again.

We stopped by a restaurant and had something to eat before continuing the journey home.

We got home by fifteen minutes to nine. We had already gotten something to eat in the restaurant so once we got past the front door Mr Nevel took me upstairs and into Amanda's room, i changed clothing and he put me to bed

"D- dad?"

"Yes?"

"You've been acting strange ever since i woke up in the hospital. Did something happen that i'm not aware of?"

He gave a fake smile

"Don't worry about me Amanda, i just have a lot of things in my mind at the moment. You should get some rest and i'll see you in the morning"

"I've been resting all day. I think im mature enough for you to tell me whats really happening, i mean you heard what the doctor said yourself"

I tried persuading him until he gave in

"OK Amanda the truth is" He walked over and sat on the bed with me

"Remember i said earlier in the hospital that you collapsed and had a seizure?"

"Yes"

"Well the doctor said that there is something in your head that's causing it and if they don't treat it you could get worse"

"Worse?"

"Yes, your brain could become badly damaged"

'Damn, i already knew that Amanda's consciousness has started to push back but i didn't expect this to happen. At this rate...' I thought to myself

"What about treatment, isn't there a drug that could stop it?"

"That's just it there isn't one at the moment, but don't worry doctor Bright assured me that they will work their hardest to fix this so there's no need to be scared. All you need to do is live a normal life like non of this is happening. You will be able to do that right?"

'First your wife and son and now your only family member that's left. I don't wish to cause you any more grief but the future of the world is much more bigger that just two people'

"Yes , i will be able to do that. Thanks dad for telling me this"

Mr Nevel gave me a goodnight hug then stood up and exited the room. I tried thinking of ways i could get the Blackbox that is more efficient than what i did last time.

I stayed up for hours trying to come out with a full proof plan but completely failed at that then got tired and decided to sleep on it.

I slept by midnight and two hours later a thunderstorm came. Heavy thunder and lightning every minute of the morning.

I was on the bed tossing and turning, having a nightmare about the future. A flash of lightning and the sound of thunder woke me up. The sound of the thunder instilled an idea in my mind.

I got out of the room and went downstairs to the living room, turned left and went straight for Mr Nevel's room. It was unlocked so i just turned the knob slowly to reduce the clicking sound it makes when opening.

I entered on my tiptoes, moving around trying to find a safe. Did this for five minutes until i found it. It was behind a picture frame of a badly drawn rabbit on the floor.

I couldn't open the safe because it had a biometric lock on it and required the fingerprints of Mr Nevel to open. I looked over at Mr Nevel.

'I cant possibly get his prints from over there to here without him noticing, the distance is too great'

I sorted out another approach. Tiptoed to his cupboard and opened the drawer, i saw neatly folded boxers, second drawer the same thing and then the third and final which had art supplies for some reason. I brought out a roll if clear tape and grabbed his powder from on top the cupboard.

I looked for anything that surely had his fingerprints on it. I looked around and saw his briefcase, i remembered him carrying it the first time i saw him after i made my jump into Amanda's body and also when we were in his office when he opened it from the sides to get out some documents.

I took the case closer to his table lamp for visibility and poured the powder on the sidekick area and dusted off any excess.

I peeled off a fair amount piece of tape then pasted it on the powered area and his fingerprints became highlighted.

I peeled off the tape and went for the safe using the fingerprints on the tape one after the other against the scanner trying to unlock the safe.

The last print was the charm as the safe unlocked and opened on its own. It was a small safe and only contained two things. I stuck my hand inside and brought out a black handgun and the loaded cartridge.

I placed them on the floor, closed back the safe and concealed it with the picture frame. I held the handgun, tape and cartridge and exited the room closing the door behind me.

Got to the living room and checked on the clock and it was four-thirty. Went and sat on the couch legs crossed trying to calm my mind and prepare myself for what was about to come.

I sat for thirty minutes unmoved and then i dozed off with the gun on my lap and the cartridge beside.

Ding dong ding dong ...

After an hour of uninterrupted sleep the Grandfather clock by the wall woke me up by six. The day was not fully broken yet.

I got up, went into the kitchen to get a clean cloth, took everything up the stairs, inserted the cartridge into the chamber, cocked it and shot into the air twice.

Brian woke up and jumped out of bed. The first thing he saw was his briefcase on top the cupboard with the powder on the floor which were not where he left them.

BOOM... i made another shot into the air

He ran straight for the safe, shoving the frame to the side exposing the safe and pressing his thumb to the scanner. He couldn't wait for the slow auto opening of the safe and used his hand to hasten it.

Reached inside for the gun but it was empty. He moved his hand around but still nothing. Lowered his head and looked inside

"My gun?"

BOOM... I fired a fourth shot at the ceiling. Brian had no neighbors in close proximity so no one else but him could hear them

"Amanda" he came thrusting through the door and into the living room

"Amanda are you alright" he stepped one foot on the stairs with hand already on the newel cap.

"Your daughter is alright, don't be too worried about her"

He stopped on his tracks

"Amanda? Whats going on? What are you doing out of bed?" "Never mind that there's a robber in the house firing shots, get down here and lets escape" Brian said to me in low volume.

I didn't move an inch

"Amanda what are you doing, come down her..."

I raised the gun and fired another shot to the ceiling. That was the fifth shot out of eight bullets. I had three left

Brian wide eyed and confused

"Amanda what are you doing with my gun?" He tried moving up the stairs but i stopped him.

"First of all, don't take another step higher and second i'm not your daughter Amanda, my name is Samuels and this is a matter between the both of us"
