Who are you?

Chapter 14 Who are you?

Sav could unmistakably taste the wind and it tasted like salt. It was later when she arrived safely at the mansion (thanks to the guards that waited for them outside the club despite being told to go back) that she realized that it had been blood and not the wind. She must have bit her lip hard while carrying Z to the back entrance of the club.

Tom readily intercepted Z worriedly and handed a blanket to her.

"What happened?" He asked with a bit of an accent that wasn't there before.

"He was drugged and we barely made it out," she said with no intention of hiding anything.

"Goodness, let me get some medicine."

They were ushered into one of the guestrooms and as Sav sat comfortably into one of the plush chairs, she couldn't help but look at Tom's back. Something was definitely off with him. The guards were also more high strung than before. Perhaps she was thinking too much about it and perhaps they were all as stressed as she was about Z.

"Am I on a rainbow?" Z asked, his eyes all gooey and his smile a little lopsided. "I think I'm in heaven."

Sav rolled her eyes at him. "Thanks to me and the guards or you would have gone to hell."

Z looked at her, confused. "You mean I was about to go to hell but we decided to go to heaven instead? How practical."

"You're not even making sense, you should rest."

"But I haven't had my happy ending," he whined like a kid then sat up. He started taking off his shirt which alarmed Sav.

"No, no, no, no," she said as she pulled back his shirt.

"Oh," a realization formed in his head, "you want to do it for me?"

Sav cringed so hard she was gritting her teeth. "No, it's cold, why don't we stay clothed?"

"Wow, kinky." He raised an eyebrow then laughed.

At that moment, Tom came in with a fizzling drink. "Here, I've put the medicine in, Ms. Cahill. It should help Z's condition."

Sav took it then stopped herself from making Z drink the medicine when she registered the fact that Tom called her Ms. Cahill once again.

"Remember what I told you Tom at that time when I cooked with Leo," She said, testing him.

"With Leo?" He looked formidably shocked.

"Yeah, you ate with us too. Would you ask the cooks to make the same soup for me and Z?"

After a few seconds he finally agreed. "Sure. That soup was lovely."

Sav immediately dropped the glass and as it shattered on the tiled marble floor, she slipped back behind Tom, placing her blade against his throat.

"Who are you? You're not Tom."

The real Tom barged in with an apologetic smile. With Sav's attention diverted, the fake Tom swiftly snatched her blade away.

"Wha—"

"I must apologize," fake Tom said and then took off his deeply glued mask. "It's me Herondale Cadmus, the Mafia Lord."

Speechless, Sav stepped back.

"Yes, I do play butler sometimes when I feel like meeting my guests to ask them what they think of me." He laughed and handed the blade back to her. "Nice moves and instinct. No one has ever spotted me that fast."

Sav cleared her throat. "What a weird hobby," she said then immediately regretted her comment. She remembered him now and could see the striking resemblance between him and Leo.

Tom laughed along with the mafia Lord. "You certainly are your parent's daughter. Speaking of which, I need to talk to you about something important. Please come with me to my office."

Sav looked back at Z who was staring mindlessly at the ceiling.

"Don't worry Ms. Sav, I will take care of Z," Tom said while holding a cup of the same sizzling drink. "It was touching that you noticed right away yet I had no doubt that you would."

Sav smiled and followed the mafia Lord to his office obediently.

"Please sit down." Mr. Cadmus gestured for her to sit on the black leathered couch while he sat on his throne and opened a small tin box filled with Cuban cigars.

"Do you want a smoke?"

Sav shook her head and smiled. He went ahead and took a long whiff of the precious cigar.

"I need people to do a dangerous task for me and right now there's nobody I trust more than your parents. When I asked for their help they were hesitant because of you. They retired from the mafia world because they wouldn't want you to grow up without parents like they did. They must have told you about your grandparents and how they were brutally killed in a gang war," he paused then put out the fire from his cigar on a black ashtray. "It was unfortunate and I would never want the same thing to happen to you but as you've heard; the blueprint was stolen and one of the elites is missing."

Sav nodded, understanding the grimness of the situation and how problems seem to stack up one by one.

"I've got my hands full so I'm asking for your permission. Please let your parents do this favor for me. Our country is in danger and I leave it in your hands."

She asked for time to think it over and the mafia Lord kindly let her. As if she could say no anyway, when he said it like that and with those same intense blue eyes which reminded her so much of Leo. He also mentioned that Leo would be coming home tomorrow evening and that she should eat dinner with him.

She finally called her parents and told them to go. She teared up when she heard their voices as she missed them more than anything right then. Her heart was breaking to let them go on a mission that might kill them but she knew what was at stake and she couldn't let her country down.

"We love you so much dear. Don't forget that," they said their goodbyes.

Sav swallowed a sob. "I love you so much more."

It was past midnight so Mr. Cahill insisted that she stayed the night, mentioning that Tom already customized a room for her ever since she set foot with his son. Sav blushed at the thought and meekly said thank you and that they didn't need to.

"My son's friends are like my children. You can stay here whenever you like. Z and Luke has their own rooms here as well so don't feel uncomfortable." He smiled and gave her a thumbs up. For a man who was ruling a country and for a man who was more intimidating than anyone she knew, a thumbs up was out of the question yet here he was doing it and so comically too.

She laughed and mirrored his action with both hands.

"Thank you for letting me stay and preparing my room. It's my turn now to leave my parents and our country to your hands."

"Well said," he replied and patted the top of her head. "Don't worry, they're in good hands."

The next morning, Tom said he drove to his private jet and that he left her a note.

Thank you little angel. Take care of my son.

I approve.

(Per @LottieHerondale 's request. ;D)

L receives a picture of S. He calls Z.

Z : Yo.

L: Are you on your way to the club?

Z: Yeah.

L: Protect her alright. Also she's not one of your bimbos so don't you dare lay a finger on her.

Z: Don't worry.

L: My men are watching you and they will not leave without a full report.

Z: Yeah, ahuh.

L: Stay safe.

Z: Dude, come home soon.

L ends the call.
