Chapter 6 - The Complication

"Dearest, that is different. I am getting old. I need my family now during these tiring times. I missed having family around that I can talk to. I missed having someone that can help me with work. Most of all, I would love to have my favourite Granddaughter to be staying closer to me so that I do not worry. Before you say anything, I know about your visit to Dr Wayne just last week and the reports are not looking good. You have been under tremendous stress and have not been getting enough sleep. I really want to take care of my favourite Granddaughter. How would you have the heart to reject this old man? This might just be my final request you know?"

The headache was getting stronger with each word that was spoken. In her mind she was cursing herself for coming back for dinner.

"Grandfather, you know I would love to take care of you but as you must also remember this, I came back home is for the family, you and Grandmother. I left this place before and fake my death because I can't face Xin and his family. They have all been so good to me. I'm not sure what to do if I have to face them all over again. Now that you have chosen him to be your successor, if I were to move back, I will have to face him all over again. It will open up old wounds. Would you like your Granddaughter be hurting and sad all over again?"

"Dearest, I'm sorry but this is my selfish request from you. I just need 1 year of your time. until I am used to being alone without your Grandmother. After that you are free to go back to your life now. Can we compromise on this?"

"One year... are you sure about this? One year and things can go back to what it is before?"

"Yes Dear. You are my favourite little girl, why would I lie to you?"

"Why do I have a feeling, this one year comes along with terms and conditions too?"

"Hahaha... I'm happy to know you have not lost your touch. Hahaha... One catch is that I would need your help in managing the company. You know your Grandmother has taught you everything about our family business and I have no idea how to run it to make it profitable. At this point of time, we are all not sure who the company's shares will go to or who will be the main beneficiary of your Grandmother's properties. Your Grandmother and I have never put our assets together before. Most of everything she owns solely belongs to her and I accept that because that is what she deserves after working so hard for the past 30 over years. Since that is the case, I would need all the help I can get."

Hearing all this, it seems logical for her to come back to help this old man until everything is more stable. During the time that her Grandmother was sick, she had already make sure that none of the operations will be affected and since she knows her time is running short, she made sure that her will reading will happen only 3 months after her death.

"Fine. I understand what I need to do. I'll submit my resignation with the school and will move back after I have served my notice. I also have my own terms and conditions too. If you are agreeable, I will take action immediately."

"How dare you! How could you even think about terms and conditions with your only Grandfather that have love you so much-"
