Amy waddled past Cassie's resting form and left the room. In front of her was the door labelled 'ROOF ACCESS' which had been left slightly ajar. Through sheer curiosity, Amy pushed the door open and walked out onto the roof.
Instantly, she was met with a flock of pigeons that rapidly made their escape up into the air. Once they had parted, Amy looked around. The roof seemed pretty empty apart from the benches that sat looking out behind the guardrail and a small garden beside the door. But one thing took her attention over at the far end of the roof. A short woman, with hair a little lower than her shoulders, turned to face Amy and dropped a pink binder in surprise. Papers few out left and right sending the woman into a panic as she scrambled to collect them all. Amy grabbed a few and walked over to her.
"Sorry for scaring you. I didn't mean to." explained Amy. She looked down at the papers but couldn't make out the writing. They seemed to be glyphs of some kind surrounding a picture of two circles connected by a strange line. The woman quickly grabbed the papers and flicked through them all.
"No, where is it. Please, please, please don't be gone!" cried the woman. She looked behind Amy and made a dash for a piece of paper that swirled upwards in a sudden gust of wind and flew away out of the woman's grasp. "DAMN IT!"
"Are you ok?" asked Amy. The woman ignored her, scooped up her binder, and opened the door.
"You're Amy right ... James' granddaughter. You have my class last thing tomorrow so I hope to see you then. My name is Sarah by the way, but you will call me Dr. Warble."
And with that, Sarah went in through the door Amy had come out from and disappeared around the corner. Amy looked back out over the school but another, colder gust made her retreat indoors.
"Hey, new girl! I've got someone I want ya to meet!" called Cassie and Amy closed the roof door behind her. It seemed that in the short time she had been out, Cassie had awoken and a guest had joined her in their room. Cassie had become a who other person in that short time. She pulled Amy into their room and sat her down on a bed opposite a boy. He had long legs and a tall torso, long, messy, light brown hair, he was wearing the boy's uniform (white shirt, black trousers, and grey blazer) as well as some very dark glasses.
"Aren't boys not allowed in our dorm building?" asked Amy as she looked the boy up and down. If she was being honest, he didn't look too bad apart from the messy hair and poorly shaven face. She judged he was about a year or so older than her making him 17 or 18.
"Yeah, we aren't. But I'm allowed with written permission as ... well ... I'm blind." said the boy. He removed the glasses from his face to uncover fully jade-green eyes with strange symbols in the centre of them. What disturbed Amy was that each eye was had it's own target; one was watching Amy while the other was watching Cassie.
"Well, I'm Amy. I came here today. It's kind of embarrassing as this is a school for those with abilities yet I have no clue what mine is or how to use it." said Amy. The boy put his glasses back on which are probably used to keep people from being disturbed by the sight.
"My name is Luke." said the boy. He reached out a hand in Amy's direction which she grabbed and shook. "If you're wondering how I know where you are, it's because I can see people's auras. It's how my ability 'Mimicry' works. By copying a person's aura, I can replicate their ability and use it to my advantage. Of course though, it has it's limitations as I can only use it a maximum of three times a day or I sustain heavy mental damage. But after a nice sleep I can use it three more times."
"Wow, that's amazing! You must one of the strongest people here!" exclaimed Amy.
"No, he's not." said Cassie in a low tone. "That title falls onto 'The Crusaders'. A group of students who have trained with their abilities for a long time. They could possibly rival even the teachers but Doctor Howard is good friends with them so they don't bother."
"Doctor Howard?"asked Amy.
"Yeah, he's one of the school's chemistry teachers. A bit of a coot most of the time but his mind reading ability makes it so no one even dares try insulting him or do something against school rules. He's also our form tutor so you'll see him a lot." informed Luke.
"Right! Lets end that conversation and get on with the reason I brought Luke here!" ordered Cassie. as she sat down next to Luke. "Do you want to ask her or should I?" she asked Luke.
"It's your idea so you do it." he replied.
"Alright. So, as you're now my roommate I thought it would be a good idea to give you a head start on the friend making side of school and ask you to join our group. 'The Gladiators'. We hope to one day take the title of strongest from 'The Crusaders' so we need as many people as possible." explained Cassie.
Amy looked from Cassie to Luke and back again before shrugging.
"Sure, why not?"
