Surgery 1

Zhuan Shan kept questioning Xiao Fan regarding anything he was coming up within his head, and to his surprise, but also a confirmation to the skill of Xiao Fan, he didn't seem to have any holes in the theory.

Practise was another thing, but that was to be expected, Xiao Fan, himself had said, he had never done anything except first aid to another human.

So it would be assumed he didn't know the procedure to a particular surgery.

Still, he was happy with getting to teach Xiao Fan, and more so about the payback, he would be getting.

Sure surgery was a good trade, yet it didn't come close to the profit margins an alchemist could do.

While Zhuan Shan was thinking his future, Xiao Fan behind him was waiting to get into the action. They had already been walking for a good while inside the sect, so it shouldn't be much longer.

The trip only took this long was since the sickbay was far from the residential area, or more precisely, the residential was on the edges while the sickbay was close to the heart of the sect.

In fact, the sickbay was next to the main square where one could find the mission hall, enforcement hall, administrative buildings, and weirdly embassies.

¨Why are you letting other people squat here?¨ Xiao Fan asked when they walked past these embassies.

¨Oh well, they don't do much, but when they do it is something important¨ Zhuan Shan didn't seem to be worried that other forces had a small building inside their sect.

¨What type of things do they do?¨ Xiao Fan being himself, wanted to know more.

¨Ask you master¨ Zhuan Shan responded, indicating that he should go and have that talk with Meng Chin.

Hearing him not answering made him sad, what also made him sad was how Zhuan Shan had said the word ¨master¨ It wasn't said in respect, not that he minded. What he minded was that it was said in a lewd tone.

¨Fine¨ He didn't ask more nor did he go after his tone. He wouldn't get anything from either.

By the time this small talk concerning the embassies was over, they had crossed the main square and were now in front of the sickbay.

¨You keep them underground?¨ Xiao Fan asked in front of the building, or what was seen of it to the outside.

¨Where would you keep them? Of course, safe¨ Zhuan Shan didn't let him answer before saying the answer, and while he said so, he was also opening the doors into the building that was their destination.

'Indeed, it does have its advantages' He realised, walking into the building that started with a very small lobby, and then with stairs, a lot of stairs.

The stairs were going all downwards until they came into a larger hall.

A large hall that reminded him of the more open modelled prison wings, but this place seemed grand compared to it.

Coming to the hall.

Xiao Fan noted that the feeling here was quiet, well, not counting the occasional scream, but it was a hospital. The feeling quietness might come from how everyone who seemed to be working here worked in all quietness.

Even Zhuan Shan had completely shut up when he had come here. Moments earlier, he had been testing all his skill, then before that, he had been bantering with his friend, but now? He was all quiet and focussed.

'Is this the mentality of people who instead of war, focus on repairing the damages of it?' Xiao Fan wanting to get the hang of it noted.

The quietness was also, well, nicely lasting until Zhuan Shan met someone.

Xiao Fan didn't know this person, but she was similarly serene like Zhuan Shan had become.

When the person had come to them she spoke ¨Elder Zhuan nice to meet you¨ The woman even spoke in a tone that was between light and tranquil.

Zhuan Shan, who earlier today had been bantering with Fei Peng likewise changed in his tone, to this same tone the greeter had used.

¨Grand Elder Pang. Anything new?¨ Zhuan Shan greeted the person who he named to be a Gran Elder.

¨No, nothing major...¨ Pang Ning then spoke a long list about things involving the sickbay.

She had long enough of a list that Xiao Fan, trying to remember everything was overwhelmed.

And Pang Ning could see that the person, who had come down here for the first time though trying his best wasn't getting all of it.

¨Don't worry, the list isn't so hard when you hear it for enough times¨ The lady smiled.

Xiao Fan, not knowing what to say, only nodded to her sudden note to him.

¨Not the speaking type? Good, there is already enough noise down here¨ She then made a quick assumption of Xiao Fan's personality.

¨Sorry to disappoint the whole department, but Xiao Fan here is very much so the too much speaking type¨ Zhuan Shan corrected the misconception.

¨Tch... Wait, Xiao Fan?¨ She first made a disappointed noise but then hearing that name, did she corrected her posture a little.

¨Wrong again, yet let us hope that the name carries some power¨ Zhuan Shan corrected her with a joke.

¨If the name has a whit of that man's power the sect will be blessed¨ It seemed that the old lady was very much so an individual, who regarded the inventor of Greenheart highly.

¨Well, I'll be taking him to study along with me while I perform some stuff¨ Zhuan Shan at this point wanted to carry on.

¨Remember don't go too hard on the teaching part. The patients need to be treated¨ Pang Ning stressed.

¨Sure, sure. Cmon let's continue¨ Zhuan Shan then took hold of Xiao Fan's robe when seeing that the man wasn't moving.

Then after having moved him a little, he spoke again to Xiao Fan ¨She's not worth your time¨

¨I wasn't thinking about either of them, the girl behind her, just came off as weird, to say the least¨ Xiao Fan knew what he was referring to.

¨Can't argue with that¨ Zhaun Shan agreed with Xiao Fan mark.

The girl behind Pang Ningn always struck him as weird, weird enough that he didn't let her girls be around her.

Xiao Fan understanding he wasn't alone was about to open his mouth to talk.

¨Forget her. She's not worth it. I tell you¨ Zhuan Shan cut him short.

¨Sometimes weird people should be left alone. Are you going to gain something from sticking your nose into her business?¨

¨Good point¨ Xiao Fan felt that Zhuan Shan had made a good analogy. There was no need for him to try and see what was wrong with her, as in the best case, he could find something, but was that useful to him?

Most likely, Nah, so move on with one life.

And so moving on with their lives, they left behind the Grand Elder and the girl following her.

Though her eyes seemed pretty weird to him, plus Xiao Fan was himself, and finding out things was his thing, even if it wasn't worth it.

Nevertheless, shaking his head, he tried to fill his head with other thoughts as they walked the halls of the hospital.

'How are the girls? Have they arrived at Jiankang?' Was it Du Lan, who had Lei Tao assassinated?' He filled his head with thoughts that concerned Qian Ki and Du Lan.

'I miss them...' Was the last thought he made before Zhuan Shan opened a door into a smaller ward. At that point, he shook his head, again, and went inside the ward to see what they were dealing with.

The ward that should be under Zhuan Shan was a small place, but most of these people seemed to be heavily injured.

There was only one person who wasn't bound to his bed currently, though that didn't mean he was well, it just meant that it was his upper body which was injured.

However, as he could still walk, the injured person seeing their doctor come to the ward got up to greet him.

¨Elder Zhuan. How was your day¨ The young man little older than Xiao Fan made small talk.

¨Good, good. Here I am with a new apprentice. How was yours¨ He also made small talk with the man who seemed eager to talk with the doctor.

¨He's your new disciple?¨ The man didn't tell anything regarding his day but asked this.

¨No to me he's only an apprentice, though I'm in charge of teaching him this, he is... Actually, I'll let you all guess under which Elder¨ Zhuan Shan, rising his voice wanted to make a small thing for the whole ward from this.

Indeed everyone joined in.

And it did take the entire ward to say every elder's name until one was left. However, at that point, even the patriarch's name had been blurted out before someone had the notion of saying the last elder's name.

¨Are you saying that we're going to have a disciple under her soon operating on us?¨ One of the people bound to their beds asked.

Though Xiao Fan couldn't see the patients face well due to the bandages and such, he could discern that the person was terrified when only speculating about it.

¨Hey Elder Meng isn't that bad¨ He for once defended his first public master.

Everyone truly was against Meng Chin for some reason...

¨You heard it from the horse's mouth¨ Zhuan Shan confirmed this to the people who were visibly shaking from such a notion.

¨I refuse¨

¨You can't do this to us¨

¨At least I'm getting out of here soon...¨

Most of them were opposing the notion in an instant, and the only one who didn't so was because he was thanking his luck that he would soon be discharged.

Xiao Fan could hear from how in his side Zhuan Shan was laughing ¨She sure had a good reputation don't you think¨

¨I'll change that¨ Xiao Fan decided that he would work arduously to clear some of the dirt that was on Meng Chin.

It would help Meng Chin recover when she would see others being more welcoming towards her, plus she was still his master... in many ways...

¨Ambitions are high!¨ Zhuan Shan remarked, but knowing who Xiao Fan really was, he should help him a little. Then to start with that, he quietened the patients who were now trying to veto Xiao Fan's entrance into the ward due to health and safety regulations.

¨He's not like his master. I'll guarantee you that. Someday he will be saving lives much better than I ever could¨ Zhuan Shan made a promise that was very easy to keep.

Despite it being an easy promise, it sure did quiet them for a moment.

Zhuan Shan was a respected elder. Furthermore, he was the person, who had been patching them up for so long, and everyone here knew that Zhuan Shan only had their best interest in mind, so soon the small group of patients decided to give him a try.

¨Good, now well continue from where we left yesterday¨ Zhuan Shan after having reined his patients to accept Xiao Fan got back to his job.

However, how Zhuan Shan did his job made Xiao Fan little weirded out.

He could understand that he did some small talk with everyone here to keep morale up, but he also acted as the nurse who gathered the individual information every day.

One would think that a surgeon wouldn't do such things.

However, he soon realised why.

Zhuan Shan did this because the people were no mere mortals; these people he was treating were disciples of the inner sect.

Every single patient he was stronger than Xiao Fan for sure, so doing anything and everything by himself was the best method.

Sure it took his time, but miss treating one of these people? These people couldn't be just changed like a part in a machine.

Performing the best possible treatment to these people must be a thing that was in the mind of the people, even in the very top of the sect.

Moreover, even if this wasn't the case Xiao Fan, in reality, preferred this approach.

It was more detailed, thus giving him more to work on.
