Chapter 10

After turning a couple more vampires Kira learnt that she didn't have control over all of them. In fact, the percentage she could control was minuscule. She assumed that the success rate was 100% for the first few turns, however diminished after. This was unfortunate news, yet she quickly got over it.

In other news it turned out that vampires could be killed, just not her. Decapitation, heart removal, sunlight and a wooden stake through the chest seemed to get the job done. Despite this Kira couldn't fathom the idea of something made out of wood piercing the skin of her vampires.

She'd tried it on an unwilling participant and found that wood could kill them, just that an opening to the heart would have to be made for the brittle material to get there. Although other attempts such as snapping their necks, which needed a large amount of strength, or tearing out other 'essential' organs would only incapacitate them for a short period of time.

She'd also learnt that drinking from blood bags didn't give her nearly as much sustenance or strength as the vein. It wasn't just the blood she was sucking from her victims, it was also their life. She had to drink over 100 blood bags until she felt even the slightest increase in strength, which wasn't even a 1% increase. So she came up with a....solution.

It was a another casual night in Gotham and Kira stood in a large underground cellar. It was beneath her movie theatre in deep Chinatown and was about the size of 5 screening rooms put together. It was initially going to be used as another drug warehouse, but Kira thought this was more important.

The room had been sound proofed and had multiple large cages placed inside the walls symmetrically. At the back of the room was a door. Behind it was a large bathroom that 30 people could use at once. There looked to be around 100+ cells. If anyone were to wonder in they might mistake it for a prison.

Observing the area Kira could see multiple humans locked within these cells, all of different ages and ethnicities. They had expensive beds and board games. There looked to be 2-3 people per cell with men and women separated. The youngest was a 14 year old boy and the oldest was a 76 year old woman. Many were wailing at the top of their voice to be set free, whilst others silently wept praying to god for a saviour.

Kira had already dabbled in human trafficking so it wasn't hard to get her hands on some of these people. The ones that had been foolish enough to wonder the streets of Gotham at night were plucked from their families, friends and homes. They had a new life now. These people would serve as live stock for herself and her followers.

The rules were simple, no killing the live stock, although they could be played with. No setting them free, they had to be fed and kept relatively clean. If any of them were sick and their ailment lasted more than a week, they'd be killed after a check up. If any of these rules are broken the offender would be killed instantly.

Other than that any of the Triads vampires, that now numbered over 50, are welcome to spend their time in the 'The Cellar'. Whether it be to eat, or relax. Kira had her own pets at home anyway.

....

Strolling across the dangerous streets of Gotham at night, a young woman who'd just finished her shift at work was heading home. She'd worked over time, it was getting late, and she didn't drive a car.

In the end she chose to take a short cut home. Navigating through some shady alleys, she had been relatively safe so far. She looked to be in her early twenties, and had distinctly East Asian features. The black hair, and brown narrowed eyes. Rather pretty if you asked the average observer.

Just as she spotted the alleys exit there was a loud clicking sound from behind her. "Don't fucking move princess." "We have a gun and we're not afraid to use it." Two voices ordered aggressively. The first voice was that of a man whilst the second was a woman.

Sabrina Chen froze in fear as her purse dropped to the floor. Her body tensed and she began to shake. "I'll give you whatever you want, please just don't do anything rash." Her voice cracked as she pleaded for her assailants to stay calm.

In spite of her compliance, the duo only seemed to be encouraged by her timid nature and chose to push her further. "Shut up bitch! I should shoot you right here!" The woman laughed in a raspy voice.

Sabrina felt the cold barrel of what she guessed was a pistol being pressed to the back of her head. It was at this point that's she started to cry and beg them to just take what money she had and leave.

Just as the duo started to smile, a quiet 'whoosh' sound began to fill Sabrina ears. She couldn't see anything as her back was turned, all she heard a loud scream. Before she could make a run for it, a heart landed in front of her. An actual, real life heart. Sabrina stared in shock and fear at the organ on the ground

Not being able to hold back anymore she whipped her tear stained face around. Unexpectedly there was nobody in the Alley other than a short, overweight woman with a silver pistol in hand. The lady's face morphed into one of fear and anger. Raising her arm, she aimed the gun right at Sabrina only for a black blur to grab her by the torso and effortlessly toss her onto a spiked poll that protruded at the side of the building. The poll pierced her heart instantly.

It was at this moment Sabrina finally got to look at her... saviour? It was a man. A tall, handsome man wearing an expensive suit that probably costs more than her rent. He had short black hair and impossibly red eyes that glowed in the dark. Despite having killed two people he didn't have a single speck of dust on him. The only indication that she hadn't imagined it was his blood covered hands.

Sabrina dropped to her knees in fear, tightly clenching her eyes shut, praying that this was just a dream. That she hadn't almost died. That a monster hadn't come in the night and just torn someone's heart out. Someone who's body wasn't even the vicinity anymore. That there wasn't a fucking dead woman hung on the building next to her, like she was some ornament or decoration.

Her breathing began to pick up and she felt like passing out. All she heard was another rush of wind before the darkness became permanent.

....

Kira sat quietly at home painting what looked to be a faceless man, when her phone started to ring. Answering it she spoke for a couple seconds before hanging up and vanishing in a burst of speed.

Kira ordered her vampire chef, Lucian, to prepare the best dinner for two that he could. The time had come. She was going to meet her big sister. Kira didn't know what to expect, but she made sure to keep her expectations low. The young girl was unsure of what she herself wanted from Sabrina. Was it a family? An ally? A friend? She didn't know.

She sat in the kitchen literally unmoving for 3 hours before Lucian brought a wonderful dinner for them to enjoy. Kira quickly made a phone call and it wasn't even a minute until a short woman walked in. Kira instantly recognised her as Sabrina Chen.

Having already been filled in on what to do Sabrina sat down at the table across from Kira. "Who are you? What are those people?" She demanded with false bravado. "Why do you and everybody else here have red eyes? How did that man save me? Are you meta humans or what?! Why am I here!?" She shouted the last part in stress.

Kira frowned at her sisters clear disrespect, especially after they had possibly saved her life, in spite of all this she held back on tearing her throat out. The woman had been kidnapped after all. Never having been able to properly express emotions Kira grabbed a letter and folder off the ground next to her, proceeding to hand it to Sabrina, "Read the letter first and then the folder, it has the answer to all your questions." She advised quietly. Her hand unintentionally shaking.

Kira's fade betrayed nothing as she watched Sabrina go through multiple expressions whilst reading. By the end of it they sat in silence gazing at one another. The letter explained their relation, that Kira was a vampire and that she was filthy rich. The folder just held the proof of all that. Anything pertaining to the Triad or her criminal lifestyle, hadn't been included, not wanting to dump everything on her at once.

Sabrina didn't even know what to think. "So what?" Her fists clenched. "My long lost half sister is a rich vampire? And you want me to join you?" She felt like laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of it all. But she believed it. All of it. The world had seen crazier with the justice league running around.

Kira sighed quietly, choosing her next words carefully. "I...I'm not sure what it is I want from you Sabrina, but I'm sure of one thing. You are my sister. And there's nothing we can do to change that." Standing up Kira vanished from Sabrina line of sight, appearing next to her.

Pulling out the seat next to her sister, Kira sat down, "Even if we wanted to change it, we couldn't. I know my life sounds hectic, and to be honest, it is. But knowing that I had family out there, I couldn't do nothing. By no means do I expect us to play family or for you to pretend at 'big sister', that's not what I want." Kira tiredly slumped back in her chair. Her mind was at war with itself. She had trustworthy people in her life, however there was nobody she truly trusted.

Sabrina was tempted to hug her, but held off. "I guess I understand. I don't think I could've just sat back and done nothing knowing all this, and I should thank you for saving my life. I am grateful. This is just a lot to take in." Tugging her hair in frustration she continued, "I'll stay. If you want me to. Being a vampire doesn't so bad, it's not like I was leading an Amazing life before. High school dropout that's severely underpaid at some shitty restaurant, discovers a loaded relative. Feel like I've seen this movie before." She chuckled quietly, even managing to get a grin out of Kira.

....

It was an hour later and Kira watched in silent shock as her new sister slowly arose from her transformation. Something was wrong. Very wrong. She could feel it. Whenever she looked at a human or another vampire her instincts told her the same thing.

𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐘

However it was different this time. Anxiously watching her sister, Kira received an entirely different vibe. And it seemed her Shinigami and Vampire side had come to an agreement here. Sabrina wasn't prey. She wasn't lower on the food chain.

𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑

𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐋

Those were the vibes she received. She didn't know why it was different this time. Maybe because Sabrina was her sister? A 'The blood of my blood' scenario? Kira would guess that she'd still beat her sister in a fight, but who knows how long that'd last.

Another clear inductor was her sisters looks. She was only second to Kira. No other vampire had gone through changes as drastic as her, yet Sabrina had.

Little did Kira know how big the differences were. Similar to her younger sibling Sabrina was able to survive in the daylight, it still hurt like a bitch, but she wouldn't burst into flames like the others. Speed and strength wise she surpassed all vampires by a large margin, only below Kira herself. And just like her sister she was very un-killable. A wooden stake to the heart wouldn't do it, nor would decapitation or her heart being torn from her chest.
