A mother's concern

April sat in her living room, looking at her son preparing to head out.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"Oh! To a friend's house." Perseus said as he tied his shoes, "I'll come back before dinner."

April watched as Perseus rush outside as she took a deep sigh. Perseus had really changed a lot this past month. Perseus who was never interested in making friends, as he turned down everyone around him as quickly as they spoke to him now had a supposed friend. April had never met the so-called friend of his and had no clue why Perseus had to visit the 'friend' on a daily basis.

Though she admitted she had been busy with her work, due to a new competition in the market but she still managed some time to spend with her son, now that his school was over and he was on a vacation. But Perseus seemed to spend time outside rather than in with her.

April shook her head, as she went back to reading her newspaper when just moments letter she heard a knock on the door.

"So this is the last day of our training so let's do a quick test to see how much you have learned," Patricia said as she readied her stance, "Let's go."

Perseus nodded as he readied his fighting stance as well. Without any warning, he lunged into action throwing several kicks and punches all of which were mercilessly blocked. Perseus out of nowhere threw a left hook, but his fist was caught mid-air not letting it stop him, Perseus threw a quick kick pushing Patricia backward.

Patricia dusted off her robe as she rushed in to attack this time as Perseus was left on defense. Though not as good as Patricia, he did manage to fend off larger attacks quite efficiently as one of the kicks sent him stumbling back.

Rubbing his chest in pain from the pain, Perseus stood up but this time with a wand in his hand, as he started firing off spells. In his training, Perseus had learned many things including that magic was mostly useless against an athletic person, who can dodge spells quite easily. Unless a really skillful wizard was on the other side, even a muggle runner with a lot of speed and stamina could outrun and even defeat a wizard. So while dueling, all that mattered was a quicker spell that would throw the opponent off guard and them a big attack to completely stun them or kill them.

Perseus, as he remembered, threw a stunning spell, which was quickly blocked by Patricia who had managed to take out her wand. Before Perseus could make the next move, he realized he stepped into a trap which suddenly released ropes completely binding him.

"I thought we were having a fair fight," Perseus complained as he struggled to get out of the rope.

"It was a fair fight indeed, both of us using all of our abilities." Patricia said as she waved her wand releasing Perseus, "Though I took it easy on you, you're good enough for a 1st-year student already. You do learn quickly. But you still need to learn to watch out for traps and not fight on impulse alone."

Perseus got up annoyed as he had thought that Patricia would actually take this fight seriously, but no he was wrong. Patricia smiled for a second as she took out a book and threw it at Perseus who barely caught it.

"According to our deal, I did say that I'll teach you everything I know but we ran out of time quicker than I thought." Patricia said, "In that diary, you will find training techniques, some useful spells and few introductions on runes. Should be good enough until the next time we meet."

"You going somewhere?"

"Job calls." Patricia said, "You should be getting your Hogwarts letter soon, so why don't you head over and spend time with your mother, after all, you wouldn't be seeing her for a long time from now on."

"Yeah!" Perseus nodded as he flipped over the notes Patricia had prepared for her, "Thank you!" he said.

"Oh! no thanks needed after all this is a deal remember." Patricia said, "I nearly forgot--take this."

"What are these?" Perseus asked as he flipped over a pair of sunglasses.

"It's an obsidian glass." Patricia said, "Useful for Basilisk hunting. We wouldn't want you to be dead the moment you encounter it now will we?"

"You could've at least bought a good pair." Perseus complained as he wore the glass, which was a bit big for him "This glass limits my vision too..."

"Well of course it does, do you think you can fight a Basilisk without making some compromises."

"Fine." Perseus said as he packed the glasses and his bag, "So see you soon, I guess."

"See you soon!"

Perseus went back home early than he expected, after all, he hadn't been away for even an hour. Walking in, he started hearing some noises.

"Didn't know we had guests," Perseus said to himself as he walked over to the living room to see who it was.

To his surprise, his mother was talking to another woman, who was wearing emerald green robes and a hat that just screamed 'I am Witch!' from the moment one looked at it.

"Perseus! Come over here now will you!" April said with a stern voice as she saw Perseus trying to escape, "We have a professor from Hogwarts here, though I am sure you're already aware of it."

"What do you mean?" Perseus tried to act innocent as he went over greeting the woman who nodded her head at him stiffly.

"Mr. Walker, I am the Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall." The woman said, "I am here to give you the invitation of joining Hogwarts since we consider you were a muggle-born but we have been getting reports of magic from this location. Would you happen to know it by any chance?"

Perseus made several faces trying to understand the situation, after all, he hadn't used magic ever since he met Patricia who warned him not to. So he only used magic inside her house which she had already enchanted to avoid picking up signals. But something just rang on the top of his head.

"Bailey!" He called out and to the surprise of the Professor and April, a house-elf suddenly appeared in front of them.

"Yes, master."

Perseus took a deep breath as he looked back at his mother and the professor, "She here might be the source of magic."

"A house-elf?" McGonagall was shocked, after all, she hadn't expected a normal muggle family to have one but looking at Ms. Walker's face, she wasn't aware of it at all.

"After my so-called awakening, Bailey here presented herself to me." Perseus said, "She said that she was here ever since I was born and that father had sent her to protect us and now that I've awakened I am her owner."

"Your father?" April repeated, "And when were you planning on telling me this?"

"After Hogwart's letter arrived." He said bitterly looking at McGonagall, "It was going to be hard to explain magic and stuff, after all, no one in their right mind would believe me. So I thought a professor from Hogwart's would ease you into the situation after all they have to deal with this stuff after all."

April sat there silent as she couldn't refute him.

"I am sorry, but can I ask who your father is?" The professor asked.

Perseus contemplated if it was the right thing to tell her, but thinking about it his father might have gone to Hogwarts so she might know about him. Considering his choices, he showed her the ring as he took out his necklace.

"This is all we have and know about him." Perseus said answering instead of his mother, "With Bailey, here I can conclude that my father was a wizard and he met my mother towards the end of the first wizarding war and we have since lost all contact. So we don't know about him at all."

April looked at her son, shocked knowing how he knew more about the person than she did herself. Perseus looked at her with a bitter smile, "It was all I could find about him through all the information I collected this past month. Bailey here knows about who my father is but she wouldn't budge, telling me that my father had asked her to keep it a secret. But we atleast know that he said the truth to you."

April looked at Bailey, "Why won't you tell us?"

"I--" Bailey looked confused as if she was asking Perseus for help she turned back to him.

"The house-elf can't disobey their master's orders." McGonagall spoke as she handed the ring back to him, "They are creatures of servitude and would rather die than ignore their master's order."

April stayed silent as McGonagall looked back at Perseus. "The sigil of this house is unclear but I can tell you for sure that your father was a wizard and might be from a well-known family. If you want I will help you look into it."

"Thank you," Persaud said

"So with this, I am considering you know about the magical world?" McGonagall asked diverting the topic back to why she was here.

"If you're talking about Diagon Alley then I've been there before."

"...."

After talking for a while, they concluded that Perseus would join Hogwarts. And for the shopping part, with Perseus knowing the location they would do it on their own.

McGonagall left Walker's house distraught and shocked. The disbelief she had been hiding was now clearly written all over her face.

"I need to talk to Albus about this."
