Chapter 4 Reason Out

Matt was able to grab the gun from Ed before he could shoot himself. But the gunshot already grazed Ed and he fell to his knees while bleeding heavily. Aileen kneeled before him and hugged Ed.

"Ed, please let's stop this now," she said while sobbing, "I'm not worth your life."

"But you're the only love of my life, Aileen. And it will kill me if you will not be mine."

"Ed, look at me! I already loved Matt, and I don't want to ruin your friendship because of me. So please, let us all move on"

"Bro," Matt interjected, "Let it go…please…"

Ed looked furiously at Matt and stood up, cupping the shot wound, "I am not your bro anymore" and walked past him.

"Where are you going?" Matthew asked

"Somewhere I can be alone, somewhere away from you." And Ed continued walking.

Aileen stood up as well, drying her face of all the tears, "I'm sorry Matt," That's all she was able to say.

"Why are you kissing him?" Matt asked

"It's not what you think –"

"It's not what I think? It's not what I think? For Pete's sake, Lin! We're gonna get married tomorrow and you're gonna make out with my bestfriend?"

"It's not that – "

"Then what?" He began crying. "Please tell me anything. Hell, lie to me!"

"It's stupid of us to invite Ed! All these unsaid feelings! All these confusion! All these regrets! They're all starting to well up again!"

"And I'm so sorry about that! But that doesn't mean you're allowed to kiss him – "

"I tried Matt! I tried! But it turns out I'm still in love with Ed! I'm sorry!"

"After all these years, Allein? After all these years?"

"Yes! And maybe he will still continue having a spot in my heart. But doesn't mean I didn't learn to love you as well. You were the one who never left me since we met."

"Yet seeing him makes you wanna come back to him! It's so unfair!"

"And I'm so sorry. Could we just postpone the wedding then? Until everything has been cleared up?"

"No! I cant lose you now. Could we just go back to the way we used to be?" And he hugged Allein.

"But how about Ed?"

"I'll talk to him. We could make this work"

"Oh Matt! I'm so –"

"Shhhh!" He silenced him, "I love you, whatever happens."

If you only knew. That line keeps on popping up in Aileen's mind. A lot has happened in just a week Ed has stayed at the hotel. A whirlwind of feelings erupted. They spent a lot of time catching up in the entire week of Edgar's stay.

And just when she thought she and Ed already moved on, Ed kissed her out of nowhere. And all else was history. She was holding back but she actually missed him. And he, the same, a lot.

As if all that was too much, then what of yesterday?

They went together to a little hilltop during the sunset. A nice sky view perfect for a great photograph. She agreed to be the subject of Edgar's little experiment on photography. But alas, a long passionate kiss was all it took. A caress from a hand she longed to hold. A sweet taste of the lips she longed to taste. A love so true that must be shared, at the beach…

"Lin?" Matt interrupted her musing, "We have to go. We still have our big day tomorrow."

"Okay." And she held his hands. They walked out of the basement. Matthew now happy, Allein torn between two lovers.
