The water was swarming and suffocating Blackkit, it was getting in his lungs to only block off any oxygen he was getting from almost popping his head every once in awhile out from the water's surface.
The black, wet bundle tried his hardest to steer clear of the rocks he could have hit with his head, to crack his skull to make him sleep.
Blackkit paddled his small paws as he tried to go up stream so that he wouldn't get swallowed up at the end of the river by the waterfall that he heard pounding in his ears.
"Help, help me, please help!" Blackkit squealed, his paws were starting to give out and so the river began to pull him back, seconds away from hitting the stepping rocks that were only a few minutes away from Riseclan's entrance, and a few minutes away from his head, "Starclan help me!" Blackkit pleaded.
Sadly, his little paws gave out to rest at his sides as he became limp as a log.
"I'll get you!" A cat said before diving into the water with a loud splash.
The cat paddled after him while Blackkit was being dragged closer to the rocks, the cat paddled faster and that was when he grabbed Blackkit by his scruff, the cat started swimming towards the rocks quickly before the river decided their fate instead.
Blackkit was too tired to realize that the cat was setting him on one of the stepping rocks, and was pulling themselves up after him.
Despite the beautiful night sky that was over their heads, Blackkit began to collect himself moments later to get a small glimpse of his hero, then an even bigger picture that was almost like looking through the water; the cat wasn't even a cat, they were a kit and they looked exactly like Blackkit!
"Wh-who are you?" Blackkit asked, instead of thanking them.
The kit smiled then sat down, "I'm Shadekit. What's your name?"
"Blackkit.." He replied, tilting his head at the similar looking kit.
Blackkit noticed that Shadekit had his exact same raven black fur and face, but Shadekit's eyes were a dark emerald green instead of blue ice like his.
Shadekit tilted his head back to him, not noticing that Blackkit was even staring at him, "Why were you in the water anyway..during no leaves?" Shadekit asked confused.
A sudden rage of anger tensed up Blackkit because he was tired, but also upset with himself for not catching the rabbit still.
"Why are you?" Blackkit mocked him even though he knew it was wrong, until he started to sniff off a strange smell on Shadekit that was an intangible smell despite the water, "You..aren't from Riseclan, are you?"
With a single nod from Shadekit, Blackkit's eyes grew wide from being saved by his enemy.
"I'm from Jadeclan." Shadekit answered, "I was in my nursery until I heard someone screaming around here, then I found you."
It added up that Shadekit's story was true, but he tried to understand why he was even up in the first place..this thought jogged up Blackkit's mind until he accepted that he himself wa awake as well, "Well..thank you for saving me.. Shadekit.." He peeped out to say, dipping his head.
Happily to be thanked, Shadekit dipped his head too.
Only minutes away from Riseclan, both the kits started hearing cries from Mothlight inside camp.
Shadekit stood up to his paws, "I guess this is goodbye, Blackkit." He rumbled a promising purr before walking off on the stones and disappearing off again in the illuminous snow.
Blackkit's mind wasn't really prepared to go back to clan, and yet he made himself walk on the stones back to his fully awake camp.
The only cat still asleep in their nests was Twistedfoot, Sootpelt let his apprentice sleep so that he'd be wide awake and aware of whatever Blackkit did the following day.
He struggled in his sleep from his tossing and turning with the slight chances he'd open his eyes to accidentally stare off into the dark abyss of the medic den.
Those type of nights have been going on ever since Blackkit was born; those nights haven't stopped and they probably wouldn't however long Blackkit was alive.
Those nights would never, ever realise him as long as he guilty fully thought of Blackkit even when he wasn't there, he was almost like a shadow that was there behind him always, never to leave him alone or disappear how matter hard he tried..and it was all his fault.
Twistedfoot sat up with a jolt in his nest and started breathing heavily; the medicine cat apprentice panted and silently whimpered for the fact that he did something so stupid that he couldn't even forgive himself to sleep.
At least when he was fully awake he could think clearly and not think too hard over the other 'options' he had in Starclan, which were none.
Unfortunately, while he was awake, the memories of Sootpelt and his conversation became more real:
"Whatever lie you're trying to pull..you are the one taking care of it, without my help." Sootpelt huffed, sitting away in the den.
Twistedfoot nervously sat down and wrapped his tail over his paws trying to seem casual, "All I can say..is that kit is going to have to be watched carefully at all times.." He sighed, glancing at his twisted paw trying to remember it was him or someone else.
Sootpelt sighed then stared off over Twistedfoot into the darkened corners of the log, he kept staring off so much that Twistedfoot felt like he shouldn't be there at all, "Do you recall two moons ago that dreadful day..?"
Awkwardly, Twistedfoot shook his head.
Sootpelt sighed, "Right. It was kept hidden from anyone that didn't know.." He trailed off then continued, "It was the day when a father lost his son."
