Dream!?

This is breathtaking. The clear azure sky that stretches seemingly endless, the vast plains filled with a multitude of flowers like a giant rainbow that has fallen upon the earth itself painting the landscape with its colours accompanied by the calming sound of water slowly flowing downstream, it's truly stunning. The more I look at it, the more I don't want to wake up. Despite the fact that I know this is nothing more than a dream, I can't stop imagining how beautiful it would be to live a normal life here.

Oh, there is even a small farm with an worn down fence encircling it. Slowly I make my way towards the wooden gate and with a gentle push it opens allowing me to enter the courtyard. The size is not big, even less than a thousand square metres, shaped like a rectangle with the farm in the far end and a few strange looking crops growing neatly right near the house. Right beside those, a smaller fence can be seen entrapping some strange creatures that looks like the mixture between a goat and a bunny. Big floppy ears, four legs and short horns, standing at a height less than a metre, I must admit this creatures are quite cute. At a closer examination a small udder can be seen hanging under them. From this I can only conclude that their role should be to produce milk daily and meat when they are not productive any more.

Away from those, there is nothing else in the small courtyard. Even in these condition I must admit that I am a little jealous on the life of a farmer. It's simple. After you wake up all you have to do is to feed the animals, take care of the garden, sleep when the sun is up in the sky and the heat is to much to handle, relax in the afternoon and repeat the same schedule next day. I think that this kind of life is far better than my eternal boredom.

Now that I think about it, I am not bored any more… This is not the first time I had such an realistic dream but usually, even in dreams, the harsh reality saddens me so much that I can't enjoy the experience at all.

"Well, let's have a little bit of fun with this strange dream before I wake up!"

With this thought in mind I approach the strange looking animals with big floppy ears that I am going to call Gonnies for now (What do you call a goat that looks like a bunny?). They don't seem to be afraid so I extend my hand slowly and start petting one of them. There are only seven Gonnys and from the look of it some are already quite old while two are extremely young, maybe less than a year, although I don't know how fast it usually take a Gonny to reach adulthood so I am not absolutely certain about my previous statement.

On one side of the fence a big bale of random plants, most likely gathered from around the farm, can be seen. I guess that is for feeding the Gonies so I do exactly what any good farmer would do and give them a little bit of food, not too much of course, but still enough to let them stay quite for a while.

"Water…"

Yeah, when you take care of animals, two things are absolutely needed: food and water. I already fed the Gonies so next in line should be giving them water. Using a bucket found around and a big barrel filled to the brim with water gathered most likely from the river that flows a little further away from the farm, the problem is easily solved.

While watching the Gonies enjoying the food and drinking the water from the bucket, I can't stop myself from exclaiming:"This life is truly satisfying!".

Normally now I should take care of the little garden but to be honest I am more interested in the house. It looks extremely simple, with two small windows on either side of the slightly cracked door, entirely made out of wood, with an low roof that looks like it could be taken by any slightly stronger breeze.

The inside is not much better than the outside. Entering through the door you arrive in a small hallway that leads towards three rooms. On the left side there is another door and beyond that, in the corner, there is a wooden bed filled with hay. Next to the bed stands a narrow table with four legs on top of which there is a candle. Away from those there is a wooden plank that I think could be used to close the windows at night and a matt laying on the floor.

Exiting the bedroom, I enter on the opposite door. Here, an identical room can be seen, except the candle that is no where to be found. Furthermore the window is blocked by the wooden plank. It looks like that is truly what it's used for.

In the back of the house one more small room can be found. Well, truth be told, room is an exaggeration because it's no more than one square metre. Here, a few random tools such as shovels, hoes, an old rusty axe, a few nails with a small hammer beside them, some wire and so on can be found.

In the end I decide to end this beautiful dream and return to my boring life. If you live to long in a fantasy you end up having hope for the future and that hope ends up destroyed by the passage of time, transformed into another dark chapter in the depths of your hearth. This happened to me too many times it the past. At this point I am too afraid to try any more experiments. Yes, I might be a coward but if anyone else were to go through everything I've seen and experienced, then I bet they would be even worse than that.

One known thing about lucid dreams is that if you want to wake up the best thing to do is to go to sleep in the dream, so this is exactly what I intend to do right now. Laying down on the bed I close my eyes.

I gotta say this much tho, for a dream it looks and feels extremely realistic. Even the smell of the hay is 100% authentic. With this final thought, my mind goes back into the darkness just to wake up to the eternal realm of lost dreams that I call my life.

'Bieheeerereeeerreeee'

Who would have though that those cute little things that I named Gonnies could produce such an annoying sound… Well anyway, there are more urgent problems that I need to take care right now.

My right hand holds an iron nail on top of the candle to sterilize it. Then I proceed to use that nail on my left thigh. Slowly, as the metal pierces my skin an faint amount of pain start spreading out. Soon almost half the nail is already inside my thigh and the pain gets quite hard to ignore but I don't care because…

"I NEED TO WAKE THE HELL UP !!!"

'Bieheeerereeeerreeee'

With a fierce push accompanied by the most annoying sound emitted by one of the cutest creatures I've ever encountered, the nail enters all the way in. The pain reaches a peak and confirms one thing beyond any reason of doubt: this is not a dream.

In reality I pretty much confirmed the previous statement the moment I woke up with the memories of a certain especially f***ed up dream I had last night. Now that I think about it what the hell was that? I don't think I ever had that kind of a dream before. It was so strange... So … Real… Well anyway, there is a slightly more pressing question that fills my mind right now:

"What the hell happened?"

I can't stop myself from uttering those words… For someone like me who, if he wants to, could remember a million different scrolls and all their content after having to look at them for only a split second, not knowing what happened yesterday is something beyond comprehension.

"Calm down and think!"

I have no idea who am I talking to right now but expressing your thoughts through words helps in this kind of situations. It makes everything slightly more… Real.

Lets summarize what we know and what we don't know. First and foremost this is a farm. I've never seen this place ever before in my life but from the looks of it this is my farm. Considering this and adding the fact that my body doesn't look to have changed whatsoever I can only deduce that this is most likely an illusion or a dream. I've already eliminated the possibility of this being a dream by inserting a ten centimetres long nail in my thigh (which, by the way, no that I think about it, I don't think it was the best idea I ever had). As for an illusion, well, there is an easy way to test that.

'hush'

With a sudden move of my hand the nail that was still in my leg comes out together with quite an considerable amount of blood.

"Definitely a bad idea!"

'Bieheeerereeeerreeee'

"I SWEAR TO ALL HEAVENS IF YOU DARE TO OPEN THOSE INFERNAL MOUTHS OF YOURS ONE MORE TIME I AM GOING TO SKIN ALL OF YOU ALIVE RIGHT NOW."

I doubt that my threat had any effect on those brainless animals but, considering my situation, the last thing I need right now is that background sound from hell keeping me off track from what I need to do.

Well, it looks like there was an interesting benefit from the nail experiment tho. After a little blood came gushing out from the wound, it actually started to heal at a speed that far exceeds the norm. A few seconds later the wound disappears like it was never there. From that phenomenon I can conclude that my body still has some kind of above average abilities as I doubt a normal human being could heal this fast.

"Now let's test to see if this is an illusion!"

Illusions can be quite troublesome if you don't know how to deal with them. In reality there are some extremely complex techniques and abilities that can get rid of an illusion but I prefer the easy way: smash it apart with brute force.
