There wouldn't have been a point for Katrin to say anything about keeping his secrets if that was the case. So unless she told her something else Xilo was left to deal with the slightly uncomfortable stare for a while. Letting Xelfia hang off his shoulder, Xilo kicked a sign for a store that had fallen into the pile. Since he couldn't really bend over at the moment it was the next best thing. With time Xilo had gotten used to cleaning everything up and was starting to recognize the more dangerous areas. A few times now he had moved a couple bricks out of a pile and had caused the wall they were nearby to collapse.
"Almost got crushed myself a few times."
Each time he had to jump out of the way fast or else he would have been another corpse. After it happened a few times though he had been able to tell when a wall was unstable so there wasn't much danger. There were also just a lot of tripping hazards so he was constantly watching the ground to make sure he didn't step over anything. "It's simple but has a lot of hazards." Moving Xelfia's body out of the way from tripping on a broken road, Xilo watched as everyone did their jobs. "Yet here she is messing around." Rolling his eyes Xilo kept it to himself as he worked, if Lexia didn't say anything then it didn't matter.
As time went on Lexia watched Xilo and his group trying to get a feel for them all. She wanted to understand their dynamic and how they worked together. Katrin had sent her own daughter here along with a few other important people. "She's trying to fake being trustworthy." Lexia knew Katrin way too well and for too long to fall for these kinds of tricks. She was playing nice on the outside however Katrin was sure something was being planned. She just didn't know what but these people could know or even be a part of it. The whole time she watched them though she saw nothing suspicious leaving her disappointed.
"They've just gone about this like normal, they aren't even complaining about being assigned to such a miserable job. It's almost frustrating in a way."
Lexia swore she could hear Katrin laughing behind her back as she ran in circles trying to figure this stuff out. "Bleh." They would definitely slip up at one point and Lexia would be ready for that. Trying to think of worse jobs to give them, Lexia guided some other workers around while keeping an eye on them. She still had a City to rebuild so she couldn't get too obsessed with these kinds of games. "katrin would love that." She had a schedule and a set amount of area that she wanted to be completed everyday. "Another body." One of the workers tossed a body towards a younger man. THey had found a surprisingly small amount of corpses so far but Lexia presumed most would be in the centre area.
"Another one to bury, put him with the rest. We'll take care of it later today like always."
She didn't know if the man died trying to run away or if it happened later on. She didn't even know if she could find his family if he had one. Their body was completely crushed and almost unrecognisable which made it impossible to identify them. The worst case scenario was something Lexia didn't even want to think about. People could very easily use this City as a place to dump corpses and get away with crimes with ease. Katrin was making sure to have people keep a tight watch however it was just too big. There were cracks people could slip in that would go unwatched at some point. They had caught quite a few people already trying to get in the city even with everything in place.
"Yet my husband does nothing."
He's raging about war this, war that. It's the only thing that went through that man's head nowadays. He can't even see how much his Country is falling apart beneath him. If it wasn't for her promise long ago and the memories she had of him she would have already given up on this place. Her Family wasn't here nor were her old friends. There was nothing extra that made her attached or want to stay. Yet here she was doing her best for this place that she once lovingly called home. "Why am I like this?" That question floated past her mind as some people, a small group of people walked by with smiles on their faces.
"Even in this situation...they strive to be as happy as possible."
Those were some of them people who had lost their homes and family yet they still struggled on. "If anything, it's for them." Telling herself she locked her feelings deep inside and let the day continue on. Eventually night was arriving and she hadn't found a single thing from their group to work off. They had done everything she asked perfectly without a word. They all seemed to be having fun as they helped her out. She was even starting to feel guilty for making them do all this stuff. "All their energy is normal except for the two of them." Xelfia and Xilo were the two that she couldn't figure out anything about. Even when scanning them up close or from afar, something hid everything from her.
That was the only thing stopping her from giving up, that wasn't normal. Sitting with them on the ride back Lexia talked a bit with them about their day. Beyond just practically giving them orders she hadn't really had any real conversations with them. It wasn't that she didn't want to and more like she was just too busy. With this bit of free time though it was a perfect opportunity for her. Starting with Katrin's daughter that she knew somewhat she asked pretty simple questions as, like what she did or why she came here. "She denied it vocally but looked at Xilo." Which meant he was the reason she had come here.
"Young love."
It was something she didn't have anymore besides memories. The same went for everyone else though which was a bit surprising. Only Xilo's answer was different, he said katrin asked him to come for practice. Since he was apparently pretty weak in terms of experience this was a chance for him to explore. "A real answer." It was something she didn't expect but she couldn't sense any lie in his words. "Weird." Her talk with him was very calming even given his off putting frontal personality. He seemed so far and distant but when she actually chatted with him that wasn't the case at all.
"He's an odd one, that's for sure."
A small smile creeped up onto her face as they all talked.
