CHAPTER 22: I AM KEEPING MY BABY

CADENCE P.O.V

I set an appointment to the Metro General Hospital for check-up. Donna and Clare joined me after my classes in the morning. I was really nervous it was never occurred to me that I missed my period for three months. I did not even bother when I realized that my body was gaining a little.

Who would have thought about it? When my mind tied up something else something, I conclude to forget him. Now, I am sure I am pregnant with his child. It is rare to me to miss my period.

We were outside the clinic waiting for my name to call while my best friends were holding my hands.

"No matter what Cad, we were always here for you, to help you. If you decide to keep the baby. We will be willing to help taking care of the child." Donna assured me that I am grateful for my friends.

"Cadence Thomas" I heard my name as the nurse calls me.

"Here." I say raising my hand walking towards her then followed her inside. My friends were just waiting outside.

"Okay you take this container and put your urine after I get your blood." She said as I sit down and taking my blood then I went to the comfort room for my urine.

I was waiting inside the waiting area nervously for the results. I know and I feel there is a life in my stomach. I was thinking about my parents and the baby too.

My studies well, I will continue after I gave birth or whatever… I do not know what to think for now.

"Cadence Thomas." The nurse called me as I stood up. "You may go inside. The doctor is waiting for you." She said as she guided me to the other room.

I entered the room as I saw the smiling doctor. She pointed me to sit down in front of her. I sat down restlessly waiting for her to talk. She put down the paper in her hands and looked at me smiling.

"So, as I read your information you are going to 19 in a few days." She said and I answered her. "Yes"

"I got the results of your tests blood and urine. It is positive. You are pregnant." She said while I was blanked looking at her.

I was expecting that but I still cannot believe it when it came for the doctor's mouth.

"Now, I just want to know what will be your decision about the baby inside you."

I try to calm myself then took a deep breath looking at the doctor. "I know this is sudden but I am sure with myself that I am keeping my baby." I said proudly.

"Good, I, myself think that you can be brave enough to take care of this child inside you. I can see that the father of the child is with you now." She said observing me.

"No, he is not with me and I do not know where on earth he is right. But I still keep my baby no matter what." I replied.

"Okay then, so I am giving you some prescriptions for you and the baby. It is just vitamins for you to take to be healthy. You will visit me from time to time as it written in your booklet okay." She said smiling again. "You will be fine Cadence. You are not the only one who had baby on this early age."

I smiled at her and thanked her for encouraging me.

After the first visit to my doctor, everything has changed. I did not quit my job I am still working despite of me being pregnant. My superior was kind enough to accept my situation. Since I came from another branch and highly recommend with my previous superior.

Therefore, there is no problem with it and about my school. I continue studying I already told my principal about my situation that I will finish this semester.

I did not inform my parents about my situation. I hide it from them when there is some occasion that I usually go home. I just find some reasons not to go home. Luckily, they did not question me because my siblings were just like me before. Not too often going back home.

...

Two years ago, I gave birth to a handsome baby named Jaxon Caleb Davies. Yes, I used Jaron's surname on him. My best friends were the biggest part of Jaxon and me.

They were there when I was in labor.

They were there on Jaxon's first birth.

They were there when I needed someone to babysit Jaxon.

They were always there for me thru thick and thin situation. They never left and I am so much thankful for having them in my life.

I never heard Jaron since the day he left. I still wear his anklet he gave to me. Actually, I keep it as a treasure to remind me that he did exist in our lives.

I continue my schooling taking some units after I gave birth to Jaxon. It was tiring but I always think it is for our future. Jaxon is very well behaving child that I do not have any problems taking care of him. He was not a crying baby like any other babies. It was a smooth journey for me being motherhood.

My phone was ringing and when I looked at it, it was a call from my sister. I answered it while giving Jaxon his meal.

"Hello sister, how are you?" I speak.

"Cadence Marie," an irritating voice on the other line says. That is my oldest sister Cate; she was living and working in D City.

"Hey sis, what's the matter?" I asked.

"What's the matter? You never came to our family gatherings anymore and now you never called mom and dad more often." Her voice was like a machine gun that never stops talking but I love her for that.

"I told them that I am busy with my studies and they said they understand me." I explained it with white lie.

"Yeah, right, as if. Anyways, I am getting married this month and I want you to come to D City. It will be a family gathering and our reunion. A complete family gathering and I won't accept no for an answer." She demanded.

"Okay, okay, I will be there just text me the time and venue of your wedding. I won't miss it for a lifetime." I promised her that made her soften her voice. "I love you sis."

"Good, I love being you here on my special day." She spoke. "I love you too. See you in two weeks." She added.

"What!" She cut me off without giving a heads up.
