Book 1 Chapter 6: File 2; The Ghost of Base 44

Chapter 6: File 2; The Ghost of Base 44

Evidently the darkness wasn't a part of the phenomena, Sci's eyes reconfigured themselves till night was as bright as day, and with a glance countless shards of bone and flesh could be seen lining the elevator shaft like streaks of paint.

Miranda looked past Sci to the scene before them, "Strange… almost as if some creature past through here…even stranger is that the door and the ground level has none if at all blood or bone…even the front gate seemed to be unopened for an indeterminate amount of time."

"Hmm…aw but what if the creature came from a tunnel it made, or an outside source…if we can't scan or sense the space below, we of course wouldn't guess that it may have come from the earth."

Sci simply dropped down the shaft and before striking the elevator that layed at the bottom his body slowly floated to a stop. Miranda flickered to life next to him, shedding low light around her holographic body.

A large hole was made in the top of the elevator with large lacerations, as if by several creatures at a time. Mounds of bone and flesh layed idle at the edges, while deeper crimson streaks ran into the lacerated sections of metal leading below.

Sci opened a section a bit wider and slipped through landing inside the space of the elevator, with the door seemingly gone to it he walked into the lowest section of the base with relative ease.

Although the temperature was bone chillingly cold, the greatest scene that layed before Sci's eyes was countless prismatic shards of ice that encased hundreds of creatures with terrified looks upon their faces. This was something he had never seen before in his studies and experiments, it was as if the cold of this level was kept as such to make sure the creatures wouldn't thaw.

"Some of these were alive not long ago…" Sci touched a section of ice with his hand, and with a thought his mind delved through it into the flesh of the creatures that layed within.

"Sir…the energy permeating the outside periphery of the base is even denser here." Miranda again displayed a graph to him.

"I thought that would be so…if a land was contaminated, the origin point of that contamination would of course be denser than the periphery. However, I need experimental data as well…tell me, what is the composition of this ice? Is it formed from that energy source as a catalyst?"

Miranda looked to the glass like ice, "It would seem to have no correlation to the energy, yet is a byproduct of the energy at least in the regards to its formation. The water molecules seem to be densely packed, several atomic spaces closer than natural."

"Tell me as well…for ice to form naturally, a certain amount of moisture, and water must be both present in the air and the surrounding environment…how is it that so much water can form here based off of the fact the bases were designed for perfect atmospheres? When the doors lock, the seal is made…no new moisture could have been drawn in such a way unless an outside source brought it in…if what you say is true, then a levy or river naturally formed in the earth must have been a part of the path the 'creature' used to get near unto or in the base…follow the densest points of ice, I believe that will lead us to the source of the breach"

Miranda nodded and began to deep scan the surrounding ice structures, while Sci noticed a strange similarity in the creature's bodies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After travelling through many channels and cooridors, the scan began to project a map that showed the origin point was inside one of the scientific labs farthest from the elevator.

This specific base had in the past been interrelated to the study of particles with relation to tachyons. If tachyons themselves were an enigmatic concept with many theoretical estimations, the particles that the scientists had studied here were particles affected by tachyons very existence; or so many assumed as what they studied within the confines of the compounds walls.

This amongst many few bases had been a base that Sci had decided not to master and study over a course of years. This was mostly because of the fundamental research of other bases. Although he knew a vast amount of knowledge over the thousands and thousands of years he had now lived, some enigmatic subjects had seemed irrelevant to the proven science he had compiled as well as made himself.

If you could travel between dimensions, planes, and universes, why study a subject that had long since proven to be irrelevant?

However now, the memories of why this base was here flew by Sci's mind as each second ticked by.

"Affected particles… or…is it not merely affected particles, but particles like tachyons that are conceptualized as existing? Did they search to find something unseen…like that of the spirit of man?"

Miranda floated by Sci as he thought out loud, "Sir…although there is a concept, the soul is something we too have yet to find…"

"Aw but that is where you are wrong Miranda…we have found souls, like that of the souls that exist in other universes like 443 and the other two…could a energy life form have attached itself to me or the gate in transit and then changed as it came into this world?"

"Sir…I think you have ghosts on your mind. Correlation isn't causation, unless causality correlates a meaning."

"Correlation…hmm…" Sci was kind of fantasizing, or in some ways day dreaming. It was quite unlike him to think of such things like religion, but that feeling that had permeated his mind had planted the seed of such supernatural forces. He may have mastered the mind and body, but spirit was the one subject Sci of all people had yet to master. Did he have a soul? And why was it that subjects like this were even coming to mind?

"Sci…it is here." Miranda pointed towards a door not far away.

The door had streaks of frozen blood moving in a direct sweep through its center.

"Come unknown, come to me" Sci said as a smile bloomed across his face.

*crrk…crrk*

The door groaned and creaked as Sci waved his hands to either side parting it with ease. What greeted his eyes was a strange scene of great wonders he hadn't imagined.

Within the shadows of the room, his eyes focused upon a central figure that captured his entire vision and focus.

A flickering image of a being stood within the room, gazing up to an unknown source seemingly past the ceiling of the room. Creatures layed around it in heaps as small motes of light floated from their flesh out into the air like dazzling stars. Sci slowly stepped forward as his hand reached out into the air to capture one of the lights, but it went through his hand like a strange ethereal energy.

It was like a hologram, but somehow Sci sensed them around him.

Angels, demons, ghosts, many different thoughts flashed by Sci's mind as he stepped forward to the flickering being in the center of the lab.

As the motes of life left the creatures and monsters that filled the room, their bodies began to freeze over at speeds perceivable to the human eye. The motes of light slowly moved into the being, drawn like stars in a universe to a black hole with an endless abyss beyond its black horizon.

The trickling sounds of water flow sounded out from a lage hole beyong the apparition. Sci's eyes focused as several blade armed creatures poured out from the hole as if enchanted by the spirit.

They saw Sci and if territorially ran at him and through the body of the spirit.

"NOOO!" Sci's eyes grew red as a field of kinetic energy wove from his hand and disintegrated the creatures into nothingness.

The spirit turned towards Sci with a deep focus, although its features were not retained its humanoid shape was.

"Speak to me…" Sci's eyes returned to normal as he stepped forward with his hand raised to the apparition. It slowly raised its arm to greet his, but its hand passed right through Sci's without pause until it stopped by one of his temples.

Miranda called out without warning, "Sir! Unknown energy source is permeating your mind!"

Sci didn't even turn to look at her as he spoke softly; "Let it…please…" before he slowly closed his eyes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A vast bloody field of death and carnage stood before Sci as he opened his eyes. He looked down at his body only to find it naked, every part of it the perfection of human form and muscular contours.

"Am i…mortal again?" He asked out into the space around him covered with the bodies of unknown beings and monsters of unknown origin.

He waved his hand, only to find his manipulation of the fabric of space and molecules to have ceased.

"Finally…" Sci walked over to a blade near him and picked it up, using it to cut his hand. He watched blood flow from the wound for a long time, before he noticed the wound slowly closing before his eyes.

"No…I do not feel pain…this isn't mortality…" What was this? This place?

"What do you seek?" A cacophony of unknown voices asked from an unknown source.

"Seek? Who is it that speaks?" Sci asked back with a calm gaze.

"I am a person…a being…a symbol…I am many things" A being of light swam forth from the air before Sci as it spoke each word with deep meaning, "I am the granter to many…the reason."

"What I seek…is understanding." Sci said slowly in thought.

"You already have that…a fraction, but more then many could say they have. This comes with time, effort, and fate" The being of light said. Just looking at the being before him, Sci couldn't place a direct perspective on what it was giving him. In meaning, it was as if it was many things at once and each time he focused his eyes he would glimpse countless images.

A woman, a man, different creatures and monsters, all at the same time.

"What I SEEK is mortality and to die" Sci said with an old gaze.

"I am sorry…but even if you did, you would still live forever." A hidden meaning was let forth behind its words.

Rain fell from the sky at an unknown time, bathing the lands full of blood in a crimson color that spread like ocean waves. Thunder rocked the sky as lightning struck in the distance.

"Are you some form of being, a god? Something beyond my universe?"

"I am all universes…all gods, and all beings" The voice said in that same strange cacophony.

"Aw…you must that ethereal vague being that never says what they mean directly" Sci turned around to look at the rain as it fell, seemingly without interest in the being.

"Hmm…quite a sarcastic one." The being said with what felt like a smile.
