Chapter 2

Once I was finished creating my character the whole area faded to white, and once I opened my eyes once more there was a medieval city around me. I saw people running around, doing errands, siting, standing, and all other kinds of things. When I took a closer look I was in front of some kind of statue, and there was a weird giant crystal there as well.

I started to walk around hoping to find Ray, the only thing that he told me, was that he was a elf with short silver hair and emerald eyes. However upon looking around that could describe a whole lot players. When I was starting to lose hope I heard someone shout towards me.

???: HEEEEEEEYYYYYYY DANTE!!!

Turning around I saw a elf that looks just like Ray, except for the hair and eyes.

Vandal: Ray!! I'm sorry to have kept you waiting.

Rudolf: It's Rudolf, while in game.

After telling him my game name we headed to a different place to talk.

The place we arrived at was a small park in front of a big church looking building.

Vandal: So why did we have to come here to talk?

Rudolf: Obviously because it's quiet and less crowded. Plus you don't want to be giving out skill and stat information in very public places, unless you think no one will care.

Vandal: Why would anyone care about my skills and stats?

Rudolf: Because you are one of the few people that actually chose the Inhuman race.

Vandal: I mean why wouldn't I? The other races don't seem all that great when compared to them.

Rudolf: The Inhuman race has few downsides those being. One, lower inventory slots, two, higher experience requirements for level ups, and three, lower Carisma values.

Vandal: Wait, I get the second one but the other two don't make sense.

Rudolf: All Inhumans no matter the type have lower Constitution which determines how many inventory slots you have. For every one Constitution (Con) you get 5 inventory slots.

Rudolf: Carisma is a hidden stat that determines how much items, and services cost, as well as how NPC's treat you. Every other race starts off with a Carisma value of 10. While Inhumans start off with a Carisma value of 5, half that of all the other races.

Rudolf: It's for those reasons that Inhumans are rarely ever chosen, and if they were chosen most people changed race immediately. The only people who played them were no lifers, or people who could play almost every day for 12 hours.

Once I heard the downsides of my race I was glad I took [General Enhancement], as it will correct my measly Con stat.

Rudolf: But enough of that. What kind of skills did you grab??

He asked with a small bit of excitement in his voice.

After telling him about my skills his face changed to one of disbelief.

Rudolf: I guess I should have told you more about the mechanics of the game. Okay first off you have 2 trash skills, 3 good skills, and 1 neutral skill.

Vandal: How could I have 2 trash skills?

Rudolf: [Poison Magic] and [General Crafting] are trash. For [Poison Magic] it's because of the damage you take after casting a spell, without a poison resistance skill you'll be poisoned. And it has the flaws that magic has in DFO, one, being you must make your own spells, and two, being the damage to cost ratio. When compared to close-combat skills, magic skills in DFO have no standard skill set, they only have the basic spell and that's it. Plus it cost a lot of Mana Power (MP) to deal any real damage. And for [General Crafting] specialized crafting gets you better gear at a lower level, and the amount of stuff you have to buy to make full use of [General Crafting] is way more when compared to any specialized crafting.

It took a while to take all that information in. But when I did I told him to continue.

Rudolf: The good skills you have are [Vampire], [Life Magic], and [Dagger Wielding]. The combo of daggers and vampire I already told you about. And [Life Magic] when trained properly can save your life in many cases.

Rudolf: Now for the neutral skill of [General Enhancement]. It will balance out your meager con stat and raise all your body and magic stats by 1, and your Life Points (LP), MP, and Skill Points (SP) will all increase by 10 for every 3 skill levels. The downside being you have to level it up.

Vandal: Wait, how is that a downside??

Rudolf: It's a downside because of the way main levels are calculated. With every level up the game checks your highest skill level and job level. The game then uses them to determine how much experience (exp) you need for the next level. Inhumans at level 1 need roughly 1.78 times more exp than other races, and with [General Enhancement] on all the time your going to need a lot more exp than other players to level up.

The downside of Inhumans can't be changed. As at higher levels you need higher level skills and to get to those levels you need a delicate balance of passive and active skills. Once I realized all the downsides of my race and my skills. I knew that I was going to have a lot harder of a time than I instantly thought.

Vandal: What about my job?

Rudolf: What's your job?

Vandal: Adventurer

Rudolf: The Adventurer job has two downsides. The first is that it only gains job exp by doing guild quests. And the second is that it requires 3 times more experience than other jobs to level up. It has one upside though. That being that it gains 3 times as much skill exp than any other job. But with you race it is more like a downside.

This was a lot easier to swallow than all the other information I received. So now all that I have to do is register with the guild and start grinding.

Vandal: So just where is the guild then??

He looked at me funny, before sighing and telling me to follow him. While following him I saw beastmen, dwarfs, elfs, humans, and some demons. But there was next to no Inhumans, I guess they looked up online about all the races before hand. We passed through a marketplace where NPC's were selling all kinds of things you expect in a big city. Once we stopped we arrived at a big three-story building, with the words Adventurer's Guild right on the front.
