Final Words and Silence

"Keep moving! We only have a few minutes before the impact!"

"Kyle look out! Kyle!!!"

BANG!!!

"Noooooooo!" A disbelieving shout was heard as the group of guards stopped to look back at the grey four door car which has just smashed into a few of the guards pushing them into a nearby lawn.

More than half split from the group to go check on their friends while the others still in disbelief go to force open the car doors and get answers.

Thompson and Jason look at the scene in shock as they watch some of the guards try to get responses from their friends laying down in the lawn only for little or no response.

"Jason we have to keep going..." Thompson said as he shook his head and held the small boys hand firmly trying to calm him down as much as he could. Jason now breathing extremely fast to the point of almost hyperventilating calms down a small amount as he is walked away from the scene.

Sounds of a window being broken and shouting sound out behind them as Thompson being nervous himself keeps moving with the small children. "This is just how it is in the end... people act however they want when they know the end is near for them..." Thompson sighed as he thought back to his days in the military, going to war and seeing friend he once knew perish, he knew how to stay focused in situations where chaos was all around him. "You guys need to either carry them or leave them and get to the estate before time is up..." Thompson said loudly in to the guards behind him as a few shivered hearing his words.

The sound of a notification goes off on the phone inside of Thompson's pocket. "Jason can you see what that says?" Thompson said as he stopped moving enough to let Jason remove the phone from his jacket pocket.

Jason looked at the phone as he was led down another street where the Richardson estate was visible in the distance.

"Uncle Thompson is says 2 minutes.... until impact..." Jason said in a low but noticeable voice. It held little hope of making it home in time but Thompson started to move faster catching Jason off guard as he stumbled and dropped the phone onto the ground. "Leave it, we need to hurry. We can make it to the house in less than a minute. It's right there don't you see it?" Thompson said as he tried to lift up their spirits before quickly looking up at the ever growing meteor now half the size of a fist.

One man leading two children through a street that looked like a scene from the purge. Empty cars, some crashed into walls and fences, a few on fire and Ash and debris from burning trees gently blowing across the ground. Even some laying on the sidewalk sobbing to themselves wishing for answers from their god for why this is happening.

A distant car engine could be heard as the trio finally reach the main gate of the estate. "You two go inside to your parents while I wait for the guards to get here..." Thompson put Mina down as she looked at him with red eyes. "Uncle Thompson.... you won't come with us?" She asked as she grabbed onto his jacket.

Thompson smiled at her and gently removed her hands from his jacket as he looked at Jason who immediately took his little sister's hand into his own. "I'll be right behind you, I just can't leave those guys out here if they make it... I will wait for 1 minute and if they aren't here I'll go inside the house. Don't worry little Mina" Thompson said as he gave her a light hug before standing up.

He looked at Jason with a comforting gaze and pat him on the shoulder "Get going young master, you don't have time to wait here with me".

Jason looked at the smiling Thomson and turned around running into the estate with Mina. The pathway to the house took a bit of time for them to cross considering they are children so with only 20 or so seconds before impact they reach the already opened front door. They go inside and see a trail of blood and a few bodies of guards laying against the wall and floor along with some random people they have never seen before. Bloodied knives on the floor and handguns on beside bodies. Mina quickly pushed her head into Jason's arm as they kept moving to the stairs.

Not wasting any time thinking of what happened he led Mina down the stairs into the opened lab door, the password seemed to have been put in with a bloody hand print against the fingerprint scanner. As they reach the door they reach the door another trail of blood is seen as they run inside pulling the door closed behind them. They look around at the illuminated lab noticing 2 bodies of a man and woman sitting against the wall. The man holding his stomach as a ever growing pool of blood is noticed under him with the woman laying down peacefully a few feet away. Nothing seems to be wrong with her yet if one were to look closely they would see a small section of blood under her lab coat.

"Mommy!!! Daddy!!!" Mina shouted as she ran over to her father as he opened his eyes partly, he raised his head as he looked over at the giant monitor showing a countdown already at 10 seconds. Being a scientist alongside his wife they were both able to figure out the correct impact time down to the second.

"Mina.... calm down I'm fine... look at me quickly, both of you..." The father said as he looked at his children run over and stand beside him.

He slowly reached out his bloodied hands pulling them both into his shoulder. "I'm sorry..." he said as he took deeper breathes feeling his the blood loss increase now that there was nothing slowing it down. "I need the two of you to always be there for each other... no matter what happens you can't abandon each other..." he coughed once and took another deep breath as he layer back against the wall not able to keep his hand raised as they slowly fell onto his lap.

Mina and Jordan both silently listening to their father as tears streamed down their faces without end as their sniffles were heard overlapping each other. "Mina you I'll be so beautiful when you grow up.... Me and your mother would have loved to see that...." With his voice getting lighter with each passing second he looked at Jordan with his eyes slowly closing. As he took one last look at his son and daughter he sighed, "Protect your sister.... and live a life you are happy with... please..."

An alarm sounded one time as the timer on the computer hit zero. Jason and Mina's father slowly slouched to the side laying parallel to their seemingly sleeping mother. A trail of blood following against the wall along with their father as his eyes finally shut after looking into his the face of his passed wife.

Silence took over the lab as the siblings looked at their parents laying beside each other with a small pool of blood connecting their bodies. Jason not knowing what to do only looked up at the ceiling seemingly able to see the giant meteor only seconds from landing directly over home. Only one thought running through his mind as he fell to his knees pulling his sister into his arms.

"Why...."

Outside the house Thompson say on the massive lawn looking up at the sky. He closed his eyes as a smile formed on his face. Though that smile wasn't able to block the single tear which fell down his face as he thought back to all of his war buddies who has gone ahead of him. "Finally time huh..." he said to himself as he sighed and prepared himself to meet his fallen friends.

Then silence overtook the everything, the sound of flames crackling against the trees, car alarms, howling winds, emergency sirens throughout the distant neighborhoods, all seemed to cease entirely . In that split second it seems that time had frozen for everyone. Then only a single sound was heard before an orchestra of destruction followed.

Crack! The sound of a bolt of lightning resounded throughout the city. And then....

BOOOOOOOOM!!!
