"Can I see my son please?
I've been here for the past 3 hours craving to set my eyes on my son but you keep making him unavailable to his mother after knowing that he was only alleged and yet to be pronounce guilty by the court of law. Don't be a twat young man, if you don't know, you ask!" Mrs Funmilayo Johnson said.
"Madam, your son is presently under the custody of the Police force due to his unforgivable crimes.
Instead of you to have cultured your son and provided him the best home training while growing up, you never did but rather spent much time learning and speaking grammar", Officer Pablo emphasized.
"Don't you dare abuse me or spew your sour saliva on me, I'm old enough to be your mother. Well, its not your fault nor the fault of my son but the fault of the police force that recruits such discourteous and churlish chickens like you who only prey on petty bribes to pay their house rents and get drunk with their salary", Mrs Funmilayo Johnson angrily said.
"Madam, I hope you remember that you're talking to a man in uniform? Officer Pablo asked.
"I hope you also know that you're extending your indolent act to a noble civilian of this country?" Mrs Funmilayo Johnson rhetorically asked.
She continued;
"Constitution demands in section (34) sub section (1) that;
'No person shall be subject to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment'.
I'm sure you know nothing about this, I doubt if you successfully completed your high school talk more of securing a diploma, the police force is now filtered with rogues like you.
"Good afternoon sir!" Officer Pablo salutes the D.S.P.
"Yeah, good afternoon corporal". What's the problem here?
Been hearing this woman's voice from the gate", D.S.P Alexander replied.
"I'm sorry sir!
She is the mother of the young man who championed the lynching of the King.
She has been requesting to see her son but I did not oblige her due to the instructions given to me by the Chiefs of the palace sir!" Corporal Pablo recounted.
"A police officer!
The chief gave you directives to follow?
So, you don't know what is meant to be done?
And how it is meant to be done?
That's irresponsible of you, I'll deal with you later", the D.S.P questioned
"Good Morning ma'am", the Deputy Superintendent of Police said.
"Good morning sir", Mrs Johnson replied.
"Please kindly forgive his disdainful act, he is still young and he is new to this profession, he is yet to get accustomed to the legal practices and processes.
We are sorry ma", the D.S.P humbly said.
"Its fine sir.
Thank you for your courtesy, the Police Force should do all they can to sanitize the force and fill the void with humble men like you cause if you continue recruiting officers like 'parlor or pabyo' or what's his name?
"Pablo ma", the D.S.P said
"Thank you! With officers like him, people will think that's how every police officer is..
She continued;
"Without much ado, I'm Mrs Funmilayo Johnson, the wife of Barrister Johnson and mother of Falana Johnson.
My son is in your custody and all I want at this point in time is to set my eyes on him and have a brief talk time with him, that's all I ask for and not a bail, my husband will take care of that."
"Alright ma, no problem." The D.S.P replied.
He continued and said;
"Hey corporal, kindly say sorry to her."
"I'm sorry ma", Officer Pablo said.
"Take her in and give her a 5 minutes talk time with her son and you should see me afterwards.
And tell Officer James that he should see me in my office too and come with the brief on the case of Mr Falana and his cohorts", the D.S.P instructed..
"Alright sir!" Officer Pablo acknowledged..
Falana's mother who smuggled in glucose and energy drink to her son sat opposite to him while the shield divided them.
Falana!
Falana!!
Falana!!!
"Did you do it?" Mrs Funmilayo Johnson asked.
A deep silence interlude.
Falana nods his head in response to the question of his mom and as a sign of acceptance to the allegation.
"Talk to me and stop giving me paralinguistic gestures." Mrs Funmilayo angrily said.
"Yes mom, we did it! Not just me." Falana stutters
"This is a shameful act you know, you engaged in an advocacy that is uncivil and undemocratic despite breeding you up with the knowledge of the law.
This is not how you become the 'Fela Anikulapo of Nigeria' and 'Nelson Mandela of South Africa', I also want to be the 'Funmilayo Ransom Kuti or the Noqaphi Nosekeni' but not through this act of impunity.
You know the reputation of your father in the community and still you chose to paint it your insubordinate acts." Mrs Funmilayo emphasized.
"Mother, I'm sorry ma. I just don't always feel comfortable when people trample upon the Justice. Please help me to beg father and he shouldn't despise me cause I want to get out of there," Falana said.
"Time over ma"; Officer Pablo said.
"Take care of yourself, hopefully next week we should be arraigned in court," Mrs Funmilayo said.
"Court?" Falana said in dismay.
"This crime is beyond applying for a bail," Mrs Funmilayo recounted.
"Bye son", she waved..
