"I see, you're a cautious woman. I wouldn't shake anyone's hand if I had your abilities either."
She motioned for him to sit down before she started to speak. "Listen, I didn't ask to have the abilities. Someone forced them on me. You wouldn't know anything about me had I not tried to defend myself against those creeps."
He took a seat and gave a soft chuckle. "That's what you call self-defense? Seems like you were actually helping those people to me."
"Those very same people you think I was defending were willing to give everything over to criminals. There may have been a handful of criminals but there were twice as many patrons. The only reason I had to defend myself is because those idiots wanted something from me that I didn't even have."
"I see so it was more for self-preservation than anything. So, why run? Why call me?"
"I … I ran because I was scared. I never used my abilities like that before or really ever. I called you because well, I need your help." She looked up at him with resolve in her eyes. "I want to bring down the person that did this to me. Will you help?" She didn't want to go into details right there. She wanted to make sure she would have his support before telling him anything more.
"What's the person's name?"
"I can't tell you that. I need to know that you won't lock me away, experiment on me, or cause me any trouble."
"Little lady, you are asking for a whole lot of something for nothing. How do I know what you're trying to do will be just?"
She understood where he was coming from so she asked him one simple question, "Did you find any information about me in your search?"
He looked at her incredulously, "No, but what does that have to do with it?"
"It's a part of it. There's a reason you won't find anything about me. It's because the person that erased my existence is also the very person that forced these abilities on me. Will you help me?"
"Wait, wait, wait. What do you mean your existence was erased? How were you working then? How did you get an apartment?"
"Listen, Sarg, I won't go into any more details until you swear that you'll help me. This important to me. If you refuse then the next time, we meet it won't be on amicable terms."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning, I won't be coming to you of my own free will but you all will be hunting me. It's your choice but once I walk out this door, I won't have any contact with you ever again. If you think you'll be able to find me at home I can assure you I won't be there."
"Are you threatening me?"
"No, I'm giving you the best possible options. If you refuse then it'll be on your conscious when you could've done something to help." She started to stand up. She was walking past him when he grabbed her by her wrist.
"You can't just expect me to trust some random woman that I just met, that's not plausible. How can I be for certain that you really need my help and won't do anything rash?"
She looked down at him, where he was touching her, her skin felt hot where he touched. She as about to freeze her skin when she let out a breath. "I get I. Then the best thing I can tell you is to look into the fire that was out in the desert. I didn't start it but if there's any information about a secret lab or a professor then you should call me. That's all I can say. I need to get back to my animals."
"Fire? Animals? We only seen one that's registered to you."
"This one was newly acquired and I can't register this one. Seriously, look into what I said if you feel like what I am telling you is rubbish then we can be done with it but, if you have feelings of doubt and want to know more then, contact me."
He let go of her. Sitting in the booth alone a waitress came up to them. Akaisha waved her hand at service and took her leave. Sergeant waved her away as well as he became lost in thought. He hadn't heard of any fires out in the desert. It wasn't uncommon for the regular police department to keep those sorts of things from them, unless it was started because of an anomaly. Yet, they were supposed to be on the same side. He knew there were some corrupt officers in his station house. He decided to leave and go have a chat with his buddy that was working on duty last night.
