Cold Chen

Yu Chen took the photo and glanced at it.

She then looked up at Sam's scared face and put both the photographs in her purse.

"Goodbye Sam." Yu Chen said and stood up to leave.

Sam recovered and spoke, "Chen....?????"

"Hmm?" Yu Chen asked turning around.

Chen's face sent blades of pain across Sam's heart. He could never have imagined that such a childlike and talkative girl could have such a cold expression on her face.

"What are....you going to do?" Sam asked varily.

Yu Chen pulled out her phone and said in a businesslike manner, "That doesn't concern you. Oh, and yes. Don't contact me anymore. I can't stay friends with a person like you."

Saying this she walked towards the door.

Just as Yu Chen pulled on her coat and reached the main door, Sam caught her wrist from behind and pleaded, "Please Chen. I don't know why I did that. Please forgive me!!"

Chen turned around and frowned, "Why? What are you apologising for?"

Sam's eyes widened and he stuttered.

Yu Chen shook her head, "I don't doubt that you thought whatever you were doing was right. And I just don't want to stay friends with someone who thinks destroying another person's relationship is a good idea."

"What would you have done huh!?!?!?!?! What would you have done if you had seen your precious Si Xia with someone else!!!!!!!!!!" Sam shrieked suddenly as Chen opened the door.

Yu Chen's eyes softened and she let out a melancholy smile.

"I would have tried to distance myself from Xia. And I know it's impossible. So I would've been content by watching his happiness from afar." Chen said, her mind going back to the time when this answer indeed was a reality.

"EVEN IF THAT TEARED YOU FROM INSIDE!?!?!?!?" Sam yelled and stood panting.

Yu Chen looked away from Sam's face and spoke, "There's no if. I know I would be like a shell. And to answer your question, yes. Even then."

As she walked out of the door. Sam broke down. His voice cracked as he said, "Why Chen? Why must you treat me this way?"

Yu Chen pursued her lips and looked Sam in the eyes, "I told you to give up Sam. I always told you. But you promised we could stay friends. But we clearly can't stay friends after what you did."

After saying this Chen turned around and left without another glance at Sam.

She knew she was being very cruel, after all Sam had been her friend for seven years. But the tactic he had used was just unforgivable.

She could never forgive Sam for lying to Xia like that.

Yu Chen took a taxi back home and busied herself in the kitchen. She had decided she was going to make lunch for all of her friends working hard on their jobs.

Once she was done, Yu Chen walked into her room and was surprised to look at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were a bit red and dried tears were clearly evident on her face.

"When did I cry?" Chen wondered as she touched her face.

Chen's mind wandered over to Sam's pained face and her heart began melting, but she quickly shook her head. "No he needs to realise that actions are never without consequences. And what he did really was unforgivable." Chen muttered to herself and pushed Sam to the back of her mind.
