Chapter 1: Start?

I, Vicente the swordsman, am trying to find the best paying quest. I'm currently ranked 10 out of 170 in the whole guild of Capricorn. The guild was a mid-ranked guild of the Kingdom of Kronos.

"Where the hell are all the good quests. All these pay horribly." I said angrily.

"If you don't like the quest payments then you can always go somewhere else you prick." Xavier said. He is currently ranked 30th in the guild. The class that he chose was berserker, which made you stronger, the lower your health got.

"Well wouldn't you like. like that would move you up anywhere because even being 30th makes you a weakling."  I say back to Xavier. The moment I spoke these magic words Xavier came charging at me to try to pin me down. I saw him a mile away and moved out of the way allowing him to crash into the stone wall.

"Like I said you're nothing more than a weakling. Besides a lot of people know your weakness against magic." I say to Xavier while I walks away. Before leaving I spot one of the top 9 glaring at me. She picks up on it and walks over.

"You know you shouldn't boss people around and act all high and mighty because your 10th." Chloe says to me. Chloe was raised by alchemists and assassins, she's known to be one of the top 10,000 alchemists in all of Kronos, but this did not make her the best fighter (she was unranked in assassination).

"Well you can to pretend to be nice if you want, but don't associate with me." I tell her. Chloe's gaze felt like knives to me, but I didn't back down to her.

"I know all about how you've been taking down weaker guild members, and stealing quests from others, or lying to people to try and get them out of your way." Chloe says to me. I couldn't care less. I want to be the strongest, and it doesn't matter what I have to do to become number 1.

"Why do you care huh? Last time I checked we're not buddies. I am someone who will make it to the top at all costs." I proclaim to Chloe

"Does your humanity also mean nothing to you?" Chloe asks me. For a moment I said nothing then I walked off as if nothing happened. Chloe runs to me and punches my face.

"What the hell!? Why did you punch me! I didn't even do anything to you!" I yell at Chloe

"The fact you don't know what you did wrong is why I punched you." Chloe says angrily to me.

"The weaklings will stay weaklings, if they don't realize how cruel the world is." I say. I go back to the quest board to pick the highest paying quest, but then a knife grazed my hand.

"I challenge you to a ranking battle, but if you lose you have to do one thing that I choose." Chloe says to me.

"Fine if I win, you have to give me your strongest weapon." I say eagerly.

"Meet me at the guild field in an hour." Chloe says

-1 hour later-

"Oh shit. I'm running late. I gotta hurry." I say to myself. As I arrive, I see a young man who looked one year older than me.

"Well I guess I was proved wrong. See ya." The young man says. A brief flash of light engulfed the man, and just as sudden as the light appeared, it disappeared along with the man.

"I have no idea who that was, but let's do this. Well let's do this thing." I say smiling.

"Five second countdown." Chloe says, "Five, four, three, two, one, and zero." Chloe counts down and as if on cue. I had to come at her with everything I had. I charged at her with multiple swings of my sword.

"Use skill: Fang of the Red Viper" My sword connected the bonus effect of the skill poisoned Chloe.

"Well good thing. This isn't the first time I've been poisoned." Chloe cheerfully states, after curing the poison.

"Use skill: Never-Ending Plague." Chloe's skill debuffed all of my stats by half.

"My body feels heavy. I have to end this now." I thought as I tried to close in.

"Equip: Sword of Imoogi. Use unique skill: Duality style- Double Dragon Slash." Part of me know that I wasn't going to win now, but I had to try.

"Are you sure your feeling alright?" Chloe says smiling.

"What's happening? I feel dizzy." I thought to myself.

2 hours later

"Where am I? Am I dead?" I thought. A sound woke me up, and when I fully came to 9 familiar faces were staring at me.

"You don't think you roughed him up too bad?" An indistinct voice says.

"I don't care. We need him for the guild wars. He could have won the match with that skill, and that's with only half his stats." Chloe says.

"So is anyone gonna tell me what's going on?" I ask. Everyone stared as if they had seen a ghost. They turned their complete attention to me.

"Ok so the King of Kronos made an announcement that there were too many guilds. So they implemented the guild wars which eliminates guilds, and the ones that do stay are ranked higher. The King says that all guilds are obligated to enter, so we have 3 months to train. The rules are you have to enter 10 guild members at most, and you can't sabotage the other guilds, but I'm guessing some will." The young man around the same age as me said. His name is George currently ranked 1st out of everyone in the Capricorn guild.

"So what do you want from me? I'm literally the worst person to recruit for this." I explain.

"We really need you, and besides you lost to Chloe. So you need to join our party, as well as helping us in the Guild Wars in 3 months." George said to me.

"Ok fine so who's ass do I have to kick." I say begrudgingly. Suddenly George gets closer to show me a sheet of paper. The paper was about a 2 month training camp.

"So I have to enter the swordsmanship course and whatever other course I want. Then, I'm guessing I have to continue the training done there for the last month." I said intrigued.

"Yes and no. We will go to the camp, but after we will be fighting each other for the last month." George said looking down on me, or at least it seemed so. This gave me a bitter feeling deep down. The one thing I hate the most is being looked down on.

"What if I try to refuse?" I say to him.

"You can't. You lost to Chloe remember." George tells me.

"Wait that's why you wanted me to beat him?" Chloe says acting like they didn't plan the whole thing.

"Oh shut up. Fine I'll go." I finally say.
