38_It was Hers

In a hotel room booked under the name of Li Mi, one woman and one man were engaging in a shameful act of adultery.

They both had their own relationships and family to care for but chose to 'play' for a little while as the 'game' they played had been on for as long as they could remember.

Li Mi and Li Jin were cousins. Li Mi was Li Ren's little sister, she was also Li Yao's aunty. She had always been a dreamy woman who thought she was always right in everything. She was in an affair with Li Jin. This illicit relationship lasted so long and was great that they couldn't think of breaking it anytime soon. Thus, it continued even until both had families.

People might say that their chemistry was the one that lasted them this long. But there were one more crucial thing- a secret. They shared a deep secret that only the two of them knew.

And that secret had something to do with Li Ren, Li Yao's father.

"Babe, let's go for another round." said the naked man who was full in glory even in his forties. He had a masculine body and tough biceps. He was Li Jin.

"I won't go for another round with you before you tell me our plan." Li Mi retorted while she took a seat on a couch after she was done with the shower.

"Oh, come on." Li Jin whispered in a sexy voice. She was surprised when she saw him standing from the bed and walking towards her.

"When did you get here?" she raised her eyebrows. This man was quick when it came to 'that' thing. She started to feel annoyed.

"Don't worry about that girl. She's too young and green to be able to do something." Li Jin said as to assure his mistress, Li Mi.

He was of course, referring to Li Yao.

"But after many years have passed, isn't it strange that she came barging in my door suddenly like that? What if she already knows?" Li Mi said in anxiousness. She got a bad feeling about Li Yao's appearance in Merry Waters several days ago.

Li Jin wanted to pacify the woman in his arms right now but he also couldn't help getting slightly irritated and worried. Li Ren his cousin- didn't die because of heart attack. He died because he was poisoned.

And the culprit was someone Li Jin and Li Mi knew very well. They even had video recording of that day when both of them witnessed it while doing nothing but enjoying the show like the audience of a premium seat first rows of a movie theater.

They were accomplices.

"Don't worry, we'll do something about it." the man said. His eyes were distant.

"What do you mean?" Li Mi looked up to see his eyes.

"We just have to pretend that we don't know anything. Isn't it as simple as that? Moreover, the one who killed Li Ren weren't us." Li Jin said nonchalantly. He sounded as if he couldn't care less about his cousin.

"Well.. that's true." Li Mi nodded. She had always hated being compared to her brother, Li Ren. She didn't like him at all. Her parents preferred him over their daughters after all.

"Now.. why don't we forget about it all and just enjoy the night?" Li Jin wore a devilish smirk over his face. He trailed his preying hands on her delicate skin and it ignited her long-gone spark again.

"But.." his words trailed off dangerously.

".. If we don't have much choice.. we can always go for plan B." Li Jin chuckled darkly and the woman smiled.

"I understand." she told him.

In Li Yao's apartment. Things didn't go as smooth as much. Both Li Yao and Mu Lihai still got something to say. Li Yao had been silent in his arms after she ceased her sobbing. And Mu Lihai didn't want to rush her. He waited patiently until she was ready.

What he heard about her mother getting hit intentionally was a shock to him. He still couldn't comprehend it well. So he needed to learn everything from her.

He caressed Li Yao's head like a child. Her hair was smooth and silky. He liked the feeling when he touched her hair. When they were close like this, he felt like he was complete. She was still in his arms despite knowing the fact that he was involved in the accident that cost her mother's life.

Mu Lihai could never say how much he was thankful for today. She didn't demand a break up. She didn't question his love for her. She even asked him to stay by her side.

And he would do just that. He would stay forever with her if that was what it took for him to atone for his sin. Mu Lihai decided to never say no to Li Yao. He wanted to punish himself this way so that he could be her shield and her family.

Li Yao told him that he was the only one she got now. She had nobody else in her life. Everyone was gone.

".. Li Yao." he gathered his courage in a single deep breath before he called her name.

"I'll be your friend, I'll be your lover.. and I'll be your family. I'll stay with you." he said. His tone gentle but a hint of desperation was evident in it.

"I'll never leave you so please.. please don't hate me. Don't let me go. I'll do anything it takes for you to accept me and my past.." Mu Lihai said with care and love. He was really desperate. He didn't want her to hate him although he already knew that she didn't.

He just wanted assurance.

He didn't want her to regret later on.

"I'll do anything so please.." before he could say another word, Li Yao hooked her arms on his neck. Her weight was light even though she was practically lying on top of his torso.

"I said it already didn't I.." she said in a low voice. Barely audible.

"That you're the only one I have now.. so I don't care. I just want to be with you." her eyes got misty again.

"Don't hate yourself, Mu Lihai.. I'm the one who should. Because I'm a bad daughter. I failed my mom.. I.. I made her choose death rather than telling me everything." Li Yao couldn't contain it anymore so she started crying again, this time she cried silently.

It was never Mu Lihai's fault- it was hers.

And she was the one who needed assurance more than anyone else. Because her consience, guilt and regret were slowly drowning her..
