In an interrogation room, two people looked into the eyes of each other for minutes. On one side sat Naruto and opposite to him was Winter. She had directly brought him to this room, good thing he was not a criminal or his things would have been taken away. He had to visibly control himself to not give a fuck because normal people stopped when Winter Schnee tells them to stop.
Winter was also confused, the boy no! the man in front of her was powerful enough to stand with veteran huntsmen. She saw the recent mission reports and he alone was able to reduce a quarter of the amount of Grimm the lurked around, waiting for there chance. However, she couldn't let go of how easily he was able to kill the Goliath.
Naruto finally got fed up with waiting and questioned her, "Umm, Maam is there something I can do for you?"
"You don't have anything to say about what you did?"
He looked at her like she was an idiot, "Why would I want to say something about myself? This isn't a matchmaking dinner."
She visibly shook in anger and almost yelled at him but after a few breaths calmed down "I was asking about your stay in the mountains and fighting a grimm alone with no backup."
Naruto was confused now, 'Maybe I need to study more about social cues but Grandma Tsunade didn't store any of those.'
"The grimm were behaving weirdly on my recent missions which is why I was investigating the surroundings and as for the Goliath, it was alone. If it was not then I would have waited just like you guys." He only told partial truth.
Winter nodded, she had also seen his reports before coming here but there was still something that she couldn't put her finger on. According to his files, Naruto was an orphan from a small settlement outside the Kingdom of Mistral, he was taught from a young age by a resident of the village and recently started traveling all over the world.
She asked questions about one topic and suddenly moved to another to find some inconsistency between his answers but Naruto had already prepared for such a situation. It was not even intentional because his mind always came up with difficult scenarios in which he was stuck and had to think about how to get out of these problems.
It was half an hour later that the questioning ended. "I think you are clear to go." She said with her shoulders squared and nose turned up.
Naruto stared at her dully and smashed his head on the table, 'Is this woman serious? She didn't even apologize.'
He was escorted out by her and left to his own devices for the foreseeable future. Naruto understood that it was important to know about powerful people when they are near someone else's territory since any village would have done the same but they would have given something as compensation for the entire interrogation session.
He promised himself that one day Winter will fall victim to one of his pranks but not now. Right now, he wanted a soft bed and rest for a few days. Despite his determination, occasional rest was not something he could let go.
After some searching, Naruto booked a room at one of the hotel that was not too luxurious but was still somewhat expensive. Everything was slightly more expensive in Atlas but Naruto had enough money to spend some on luxuries. He threw his clothes away, changed into comfortable shorts and jumped inside the covers. Before sleep could claim him, he contacted his editor and asked her about the progress of his books. Once he learned that the books were a hit among both children and adults he was ecstatic. He promised to send the next involvement tomorrow and fell asleep.
...
It was noon when someone started knocking on his door. Naruto hid under the covers and decided to ignore it but the constant knocking did not stop. "Wait!" he yelled in slight anger and crawled out of the bed. His long hair went down his back and without caring about modesty he first hid a knife behind his back. Once he opened the door his face turned sour, there stood Winter in her formal army clothes at his door.
"Hello, Winter. To what do I owe the pleasure of you coming to see me this early?" his sarcasm did not help since Winter felt slightly bad for asking so many questions even though he helped her in a way by killing the grimm. Her face twitched in agitation but she soon noticed his current attire.
"Are you going to just stand there or let me in so we can talk." She snapped back to attention and answered.
Reluctantly, he allowed her to enter the room after looking outside to see two guards standing at attention. He closed the door after she entered and asked to make her self comfortable while he went to clean himself up change his clothes.
After a quick shower, Naruto changed into causal clothes that were simple blue pants and a white shirt, while his necklace hanged outside. He walked out while drying his hair and took a seat on the sofa.
"So?" He questioned. Naruto was still not sure why Winter was here.
"I came here to apologize for what happened yesterday. I formally invite you to lunch as an apology and give a short tour around Atlas since you are new here."
Naruto was amazed, 'I guess I was wrong about her pride. I know she did not have any negative intentions towards me but to come forwards and say so much. If only she drops her high and mighty attitude than we might even become friends.'
He scratched his cheek, "I think I should also apologize. I'm not exactly good at talking to people and usually spend my time alone."
Winter smirked, "I'm sure you can answer some of my questions as an apology."
"I walked into that one didn't I?"
She did not answer instead, she stood up and left the room. Naruto stared at the place where her figure last stood. He jumped up and grabbed his sword before running after her. Even if she did not answer his question, he could easily read her expression of victory.
Winter dismissed her guards and took him around Atlas but Naruto discreetly kept an eye on his surroundings. On the way, she pointed out some of the places that might interest him. After an hour she brought him to a high-class restaurant where she had already made a reservation.
Naruto pulled the chair for her first then sat down. Many of the people in the restaurant had their gazes directed at them but both were extremely good at ignoring people.
"You sure are famous." Naruto glanced around to assess the situation.
"Comes with being a Schnee and working directly under General Ironwood."
"I guess every job has its perks." Naruto agreed 'A jonin ninja would also attract the attention of civilians.'
"Indeed. Now, how long are you staying in Atlas?" She questioned.
"Not sure, I heard that the Vytal festival is in about two weeks and I want to see how strong people my age are in the top school of Remnant."
"You shouldn't compare yourself to children who are still studying in school." She responded seriously, "The way you fought was like a professional huntsman which is partially why I wanted to apologize. I treated you like a child when I should not have."
Naruto smiles after hearing her honest thought but he still wanted to see what it would be like to be taught by hunters and see a tournament dedicated to peace.
"Speaking of a professional huntsman, I want to ask about who trained you. People your age are either still studying or don't want to be hunters."
"Finally showing your true colors." Naruto joked and looked outside at the street, his expressions became solemn as he tried to give a proper response.
"I have had many teachers, some taught me how to fight properly, some taught me the value of comrades and others about responsibility." he smiled in remembrance, "A year ago if you asked me the same question I would have said that my godfather taught me but things have changed now."
Winter listened closely and noticed how Naruto's expressions change each time he talked about someone.
"I think I learn a little from everyone. Every person I meet teaches me a different lesson, some were my friends and some were even my enemies once who I grew to understood that the things they were doing were a product of what they thought was right."
Naruto stopped when a waiter appeared with a cart to place the food. While Winter dealt with the waiter, Naruto mentally kicked himself for saying too much.
"I really destroyed the easy-going atmosphere." he laughed awkwardly.
"Not really, you just showed that you are mature for your age."
"Only you would think that." He laughed.
Winter smiled and both started eating. Naruto liked the things she ordered for him but he was never one to eat luxurious cuisine. For him, the portion of the meals was too small but he did not say anything and ate properly in case of Winter accidentally misunderstanding him.
He wiped his face and picked up the wine to take a sip, It wasn't like the sake he tried at toad mountain. Too light and sweet but it was okay.
"Aren't you in the military? Won't your superior be mad that you are sitting here talking to a stranger."
"My only superior is General Ironwood and he knows that I am on leave. In fact, he supported that I meet you and take some time off."
"Wow! you must be pretty hardworking for General Ironwood to give you time off"
Soon, they started talking normally again and chatted normally. Winter asked about his next destination to which he disclosed that he wanted to go and see the Vytal Festival and both got to know each better. Naruto saw that she was more relaxed than before but her posture was still as stiff as a log.
In the end, they exchanged contacts and said goodbye to each other after exiting the restaurant. Naruto roamed around for a while and went back to his room after the sun set on the horizon.
...
Naruto changed into comfortable clothes and laid on the bed thinking about his day. His thoughts were conflicted since he wanted to stay away from the people of this world. 'One day I will have to go back home and the people I befriend will be left behind.'
He threw a knife at the ceiling in anger but the knife stopped before it could it the roof of his room and appeared in his hand. He threw the knife again but it again stopped, this time in midair for a few seconds before dropping.
His hands played with the knife while he thought about his situation, 'I'm not someone who can stop making bonds and not talking to people seems like something that Sasuke would do. It's not like I can teleport from my world to this world after going back. I don't have special kunais like dad had.'
He sat up as soon as he thought about it. Excitement burned through his veins and he jumped from the bed directly teleporting to the table. Opening up the seal he brought out his fuinjutsu books and supplies.
"It doesn't matter if I don't have chakra! I can still make a seal that helps me connect to a different place and act as a beacon for me to teleport towards. If I make a seal by combining my semblance and my mastery over fuinjutsu, I can give it to people whom I can trust."
Naruto liked the idea of teleporting anywhere he wanted and immediately got to work.
