The Beginning of the Journey Part 1

The twins opened their eyes and were greeted with a familiar sight. They were still surrounded by the same lush vegetation they saw earlier before entering a trance. Although they knew not much time had passed, they did not relax as they scanned their surroundings once again for any immediate threats. After making sure they were safe for now, Malosi tried to contact Augustus.

"Augustus, can you hear me?"

"Loud and clear, Master Malosi." Augustus responded.

"Good, I plan on exploring the stream I spotted earlier. What do you think?" Malosi suggested.

"Very well, Master Malosi. I will only remind you to be cautious and I will activate the radar ability when prompted." Augustus said.

"Alright, I will let Saya know of this." Malosi replied.

Malosi saw Saya's eyes filled with wonder as she took in her surroundings. Malosi felt warmth welling up inside him as he guessed what Saya was thinking. Malosi almost forgot his objective after seeing Saya's expression. He had not seen Saya filled with joy since their days in the orphanage. He recalled their tragic demise… Malosi wore a determined look and swore an oath to Saya and himself. He swore to make their final wishes come true.

After Saya spent a couple minutes looking around happily, she caught sight of Malosi's serious expression.

"What's wrong Kuya?" Saya asked.

Saya's voice snapped Malosi awake. He then remembered the current objective.

"It's nothing serious, I was just wondering what you were thinking about while looking around." Malosi replied.

"Oh! Well, I was just thinking that this place is so wonderful! Compared to the smog-filled concrete jungle we used to live in… This place is definitely way better, a thousand times better!" Saya sported a bright smile as she answered Malosi with a happy tone.

Malosi chuckled at Saya's words.

"You're right, breathing such clean and fresh air is so refreshing but I'm sure that there is more of this world than just this beautiful forest. I'd like to explore this world and learn more about it before finding somewhere to lay down our roots. What do you think?"

"That sounds great, Kuya! I'm already getting excited at just the thought of it." Saya nodded enthusiastically.

"Good but like I said, we need to make preparations. Remember what Uncle Augustus and Aunty Aurelia said? We need to find food and water first. Uncle and Aunty said they'll teach us the basics of our gifts once we're ready" Malosi said.

"Okay. I saw a stream not that far from here earlier. Should we check it out?" Saya said.

"I was just about to say the same thing. Let's go check it out. Uncle Augustus also reminded us to be careful and remember to use our radar and telepathy if needed." Malosi replied.

"Mm, got it! Lead the way, Kuya." Saya said.

Malosi led the way to the stream with Saya right behind him. After walking for a few minutes, Malosi spotted a broken branch with a decently sharp end. He decided to use it as a makeshift spear. A few more minutes of walking and they arrived at the stream. They saw fish gliding through the crystal clear water.

"Looks like we don't need to worry about food for now." Malosi eyed the fish hungrily before turning to look at Saya.

"Mhm… we haven't had meat in a very long time…" Saya drooled while watching the fish swim by her.

"Well, how about you keep a look out for me while I try to get some fish?" Malosi asked.

"Okay, good luck Kuya! I'll keep an eye out over here, I'll let you know if anything happens through telepathy." Saya said.

Malosi slowly walked into the stream with his makeshift spear in hand, careful as to not scare the fish away. Unfortunately, the fish felt his presence and quickly escaped. Malosi clicked his tongue at this sight. Augustus gave Malosi advice to quickly ease his frustration.

"Don't worry master, simply stay still for a few moments and the fish will come back. They're not as smart as they look. You may thrust with your spear when you find the right moment to do so."

"Alright, I'll do as you say." Malosi replied.

Malosi did as Augustus said and stayed still. After being still for a few minutes, the fish came back. Malosi became excited at this sight and struck with his spear only to miss. Malosi again clicked his tongue before inhaling and exhaling deeply to force himself to calm down. He did what Augustus said and stayed still once more. A few minutes passed and the fish came back. This time, he waited patiently for the right moment to strike. It did not take long for one to come close to him. Malosi eyed the fish sharply, waiting for the fish to stop not that far from him…

Malosi saw his chance the moment the fish stopped right in front of him. He thrusted his spear and hit the fish dead in the center, pinning it to the rocks below them. After letting the fish expend all its energy, Malosi did the same thing for half an hour and managed to catch five medium-sized fish. He felt that this was enough and contacted Saya via telepathy. He focused his thoughts on Saya.

"Saya, I've caught a couple of fish. I'm heading to you and we'll go find a place to camp and cook them up."

"Okay Kuya, I'm right here in the same spot you left me. Aunty and I did not spot anyone or anything while you were fishing by the way."

"Good, I'm on my way now."

Malosi walked towards Saya with five fish impaled on his makeshift spear. Malosi smiled at Saya who is currently drooling at the sight of the fish.

"Please wait until we cook the fish before eating them." Malosi joked.

Saya laughed cutely before giving him a light punch on his shoulder.

"I know that! Now let's go find somewhere to camp so we can cook them already!" Saya said.

"Alright alright, let's just follow the stream for now then. Right, why don't we grab some wood for the fire on our way too."

Saya followed Malosi as they walked along the stream while collecting firewood on the way. They stopped after they spotted a small waterfall, only a few meters high. Saya scanned the surroundings and found a cavity on the rock face big enough for two humans and decided to camp there. Once they got close enough to the cavity, they saw a man sitting on the ground.
