Underwear Can Ward Off Monsters

"It's really you. You're still alive!"

Officer Little Song gave Lin Chao an emotional bear hug he came before him. He was so happy that he was at a loss for words. "You didn't die. I thought you died. It's great! It's great!"

Chu Shanhe and the rest came over swiftly.

Chu Shanhe's eyes were lightly rimmed red as he punched Lin Chao's chest. "Good brother, I knew that you wouldn't die so easily!"

The hospital's vice director asked in astonishment, "Young Brother Lin, how did you survive? It's unbelievable. What about those zombies?"

Before Lin Chao answered, Officer Little Song glared at him. "What do you mean? Were you hoping that Brother Lin died?"

"I don't mean it that way. I'm just curious how he survived the siege of so many zombies. There aren't any wounds on Young Brother Lin as well! It's a miracle!" the vice director spoke quickly knowing that the military officer misunderstood him.

It was only when he mentioned it that the rest of them realized that Lin Chao had no injury on him in addition to being alive; it was only his clothes that were slightly dirtied with reeking carrion stuck on it.

Lin Chao did not want the group's imagination to run wild when he saw nobody asking despite their curiosity, saying, "I'm just lucky. I ran into a truck blocking my way after leaving this road and climbed onto it when the monsters caught up. Then I climbed onto the lamppost beside the road from there, coming down only when the monsters left. That's why I'm late."

His explanation was brief but Chu Shanhe and the group could picture the situation, feeling cold sweat break out of them for Lin Chao.

The hospital's vice director pondered before asking in confusion, "The lamppost is only about eight meters. How would the zombies leave when they see you up there?"

"I have my ways," Lin Chao answered while glancing at him from the corners of his eyes.

"What ways?" The vice director looked at him with interest piqued.

Lin Chao retorted in mockery, "Why should I tell you?"

The vice director was taken aback before he recomposed himself and said, "If your method is effective, I'll tell the others. The survival rate will be largely increased this way. It's a kind act!"

"Oh," Lin Chao replied as he looked at him indifferently. "It's simple. As long as you throw the underwear you're wearing away, you'll be able to fend off these monsters."

"Un–underwear?"

The entire group including Chu Shanhe almost doubted their ears.

Lin Chao elaborated in nonchalance, "That's right. My underwear hasn't been washed for days, so the smell is very strong. Naturally, it's able to lure them away. You can try it."

The group was speechless while the female nurse blushed and turned away bashfully.

"You'll know when you try it out," Lin Chao continued flatly.

He was not lying. It was indeed a method. It was just that this was not the approach he had used to hide from these zombies. He had used the refraction of light, leaving after hiding himself.

The underwear?

It could only deceive normal zombies during the early stage. When they gained more intelligence after another evolution, all hell would break loose if one dared to throw their underwear at them!

Without giving the group another opportunity to question him, Lin Chao spoke up, "Let's go."

"You seem to understand these monsters very well," the hospital's vice director pushed at his glasses and asked curiously, "Have you killed many of them?"

Lin Chao glanced at him distantly but did not answer, causing the atmosphere to turn awkward.

Officer Little Song intervened. "Don't you think you have too many questions? Brother Lin Chao is an ancient practitioner. Do you know what an ancient practitioner is? It's our country's secret arm. Even the directors of A-class hospitals aren't qualified to talk to him – what's more, you, a mere vice-director!"

Witnessing Lin Chao's capability, he had already assumed that Lin Chao had to be an ancient practitioner.

The hospital's vice director was shocked. He had never heard of ancient practitioners but catching the words 'secret arm', he instantly understood that he was in no place to know about it and no longer dared to utter another word.

Officer Little Song scoffed. "Weren't you thinking to ditch Brother Lin Chao just now? How do you still have the face to ask about this and that? Aren't you a doctor? You can study the monster all you want when the research institute assigns one to you later!"

There was a slight change to the vice director's expression. He did not want to leave a bad impression on Lin Chao who was adroit and had a "mighty background". Cursing Officer Little Song inwardly, he spoke at the same time, "What are you saying. Since when did I want to leave Mr. Lin stranded? I've waited with all of you. Besides, I only want to help more survivors asking what I did. Mr. Lin, don't listen to his nonsense! I absolutely didn't have thoughts of leaving you behind!"

"Hah, what shamelessness…" Officer Little Song snorted.

The vice director ignored him, only peering at Lin Chao nervously as he said, "You have to believe me, Mr. Lin. I've never thought about ditching you."

"I know." Lin Chao nodded.

It did not cross Lin Chao's mind to pursue the matter. In fact, he did not mind at all. If it were not to sow the seed in Chu Shanhe, he would not have rescued anyone.

Furthermore, it was normal to be abandoned under circumstances like his in the apocalypse. He had gone through too many similar occasions from a young age and had long gotten used to it, thinking that it was nothing out of the ordinary. On the contrary, it was Chu Shanhe and Officer Little Song who waited at the spot according to their promise that amazed him. Recalling that the documented Chu Shanhe was a valorous and gallant person, however, his surprise was assuaged.

The hospital's vice director thought that Lin Chao truly believed him and was inwardly relieved as he then waxed lyrical about him.

As for Chu Shanhe and Officer Little Song, they were genuinely impressed thinking that Lin Chao was too kind to look over such things.

"Let's go," Lin Chao said looking at the time.

Chu Shanhe nodded and led the group in front.

"Brother Lin Chao, are you sure that you don't want to enlist? I can recommend you and make you a second lieutenant right away. You'll be promoted to major general in no time with your skills." Chu Shanhe was persistent as he looked at Lin Chao seriously and said, "It's too risky to stay here alone. Leave with me."

Lin Chao shook his head.

Sighing, Chu Shanhe continued, "You've saved my life this time. Remember to look for me if you face any difficulty in the future!"

"Alright!" Lin Chao gave another nod.

As they went on their way, the zombies they came across sporadically were killed by Lin Chao and Chu Shanhe collaborating. It was not long before the group arrived at the meeting point Chu Shanhe spoke of.

It was a spacious square that had a few hundred zombies roaming around. Most of them were older women whose facial features were now already unrecognizable.

Lin Chao and the group hid beside a building on the edge of the square and waited quietly. According to Chu Shanhe, the person who was picking them up would be coming in a helicopter to take them up directly into the air.

If there were a machine gun on the helicopter, it would not be a challenge to clear the zombies in this square.

"Why isn't he here yet?" Chu Shanhe was doubtful. "The time has passed. Don't tell me there's an emergency."

Lin Chao's ears twitched before his facial expression changed. "There are gunshots!"
