Chapter 198: Criminal Element

The first night at the Inn turned into two as I started to collect information and did not have time to spend with my Toys. That turned into a third and a fourth night. One of the things that I learned was that the Demon lands were a much more complex and simplified system of government.

There was more than one major species, and they each had a say in the government. That meant there was much more equality between the species at the top and those living here. That had societal implications, and here in the Demon Lands capital, you could see interspecies couples all over. Not that there were what I would consider Pure couples except for Succubi and Incubi. I needed help understanding those two species, though. They were so alike. Why were they not considered the same species?

I shook my head, knowing that this world would surprise me repeatedly. I would have to live with it and try to make do. The problem here was that the criminal element in the Demon Lands was a problem finding. The Necromancer disappeared into the background obviously looking to do their part in all of this. I didn't hear a thing about the other Necromancers as they landed on the ships they took from the Empire. That didn't mean they were not here, though.

I was troubled with the current standing of things as I looked up and down for the criminal element in this City. I was hard-pressed to understand how there was so little crime in the Demon Lands capitol. It was where the most poverty should be, and it seemed they did a good job at keeping things equal or were better at sending the impoverished away.

The Former was unlikely, and the latter was much more expected. That meant I would need to play things a different way. I had some gold coins and wanted to either take over a place or start a business. That would be for the best, and if I had to create a criminal element here in the City myself, then I would have to do so.

For now, Stacy and everyone were back at the Inn, and I was thinking outside at the docks. I could smell the fish coming in in the morning. Fishermen coming in from the seas, and I thought about what I would need to start things up here. I could not find the Criminal element in this city and looking for it meant I needed to start my own organization. Something that I could make cash flow with and turn people into my playthings.

I already knew what I wanted to do and was sure I could use my toys to assist me. I didn't like the thought of others playing with my toys, but I could always make new toys for what I was thinking of. I grinned, and I decided.

The hardest part of all of this would be getting two organizations going at the same time. I would have to find another plaything to do the work for me like I have done before. The question was more about how I would keep this all quiet while I started to make an impact politically and a power base.

The question was if I should go about creating Slaves like in the Empire or become a Mistress. Mistresses were quite the thing when I was in my previous world for powerful people. When your job was to make decisions for the masses, sometimes the most cathartic thing you could do was lose all choice and follow the whims of others. It would be interesting to go that route more this time.

Look at the Marquis, Baroness, and the Duchess from the Empire. They were Women in power, and all they wanted to do was be completely released from choice sexually. They didn't want to think and only wanted to obey completely. The only problem with that was instilling long-lasting loyalty would be harder. Even influencing them would take longer, and I would have to use it strategically.

Still, it was going to be better than what happened in the Empire or even the Kingdom of Arlin. The Kingdom of Arlin was more controlling the poor than anything else. The Empire I had nothing in control of the Nobility other than a few people. It was more sources of information.

I wanted to achieve more here in the Demon lands, and the Necromancers would allow me to make money hand over fist in commerce if I had the supplies of underground goods moving through my hands. My mind focused and I finally decided and next needed to think about where I needed to be located.

The Demon Lands capitol was unique in that it was surrounded by mountains with only one way out. Otherwise, it was all through the docks, which meant that a lot of things came in through the Galleys. It was terrific how advanced some things were in the world, but the ships were still archaic. Someone introducing better ship technology would be a welcome thing.

Still, that made shipping a major economic thing for the Demon Lands, but I didn't see much of a Military presence around it. That was another odd thing, much to my surprise. Then there was the Coliseum or Arena like there was in Ancient Rome from my past world. Constantly, people fought in it and killed each other in the name of honor. It was dumb but also unique to this country, to my knowledge. Anyone could enter and fight, with the strongest being helped out and the other left dead or to the medics—the winner's choice.

Interesting, so damn interesting, but it made everything more complicated. The Capital was at least being run well, making things much harder. Less Corruption meant fewer cracks to cozy myself up into. Still, there were always ways to move deeper into the heart without people knowing about it.

I grinned and looked around the Docks.

Both Male and female Medusas seemed to be very populated around the Docks. This wasn't the best area for me to start my Career here. Instead, somewhere a little closer to the heart of politics, here would be the best start. I don't want to cater to the powerful here. I needed to be able to get information all around.

Without much thought, I started to traverse the City and look at buildings. I needed something just between the Docks and the Capital. As I walked, I continued to look around, and soon, I found Bunny-kin in a certain area. Guarding a tower and the mana, I felt from the building was large but Weakening. Interesting, that was a sign of corruption, maybe. I wonder if I could get someone inside whatever that building was.

I grinned sadistically as I looked at the Various colors of these Bunny-kin people, who all looked strong and at least in the C rank. Looked to be a government building of some type. I stepped away, realizing that putting down marks was not what I needed at this moment. I would target things later and make focus groups. Instead, I needed a location.

As someone in Business once said, Location, Location, Location. I would make my home business in the Best Location I could get. I had some gold to my name from the Empire. Hopefully, it will be enough for our business to start and take off. Otherwise, things were going to get tough.

I wasn't about to find the Criminal Element here. Then, I would need to start finding a location and work things another way. I smiled, and it was time to start planning things.
