Ash Wrought by Light part 2

Mathias lay there on the ground pain flooding through his body. Along with another feeling. Fear. Why were vampires of the vampiric council here? Starting to crawl away he made sure to keep himself as low as he could as his mind continued to race like a rabbit on speed. He rolled over to one of the corner hedges as he took a deep breath, glancing from the hole to the burning estate. He needed to get there and quick. Before those vampires hunted him down.

What a sick and twisted turn of fate. He thought to himself as he grabbed the Stake that was lodged within his leg as he took in a long deep breath before gripping the stake in his leg after taking out a bundle of cloth. He took several deep breaths as he mentally prepared himself for what he was about to do. Which wasn't the smartest thing he should be doing in the middle of a vampire hunt.

Gripping the wooden stake tighter he quickly pulled at it as it slowly came out of his leg, his blood beginning to pour profusely from the injury as he did. Dizziness overtook him as he did, pushing through it he continued to pull the stake from his leg, blood seeping out faster and faster with the progress he made. Once he had it completely out he put the cloth on it, applying pressure on it to stifle the bleeding to some degree.

Glancing around he looked for something he could use to close the injury. But to his unluckiness, he found nothing but brush and some sticks. Thinking quickly he pulled out his cross from his back pocket as he held it tightly within his hand muttered a prayer under his breath. Praying that his injury would at least be healed to the point where he could functionally complete his job.

Rustling in the leaves of the hedge caught his attention as he reached for one of his side pouches which held a few throwing knives as he kept his impaired vision and hearing on overdrive trying to pin point where it was coming from. Soon a figure made its way through the hedge tall and draped in white robes. Relief began to fill the void that was left by the pain and the dizziness.

Seeing the sight of Sister Tessa brought him comfort as he slowly adjusted himself wincing in pain and now drowsiness. He regretted his decision to pull the stake out before looking to see if he had what he needed to actually take care of it.

"Was it your target that beat you this bad Mathias?" Tessa spoke in a questionable tone as she slowly approached him holding a bible within her hand. One of the things he appreciated about his sisters from the order is their ability to use the holy magics bestowed upon them by those above. One of the reasons most hunting groups brought a sister with them. Tessa was the exception, because on the one side of being a priestess, she was also an experienced hunter. Who with the divine magic she held, could deal more damage to a house of vampires than they could.

"It was not my target who sliced me up. It also wasn't my target the shot me in the leg with a stake" Mathias spoke slapping his own face to stay conscious. "You think you could patch me up?"

"Is that a question or an insult?" Tessa asked raising a eyebrow before letting out a sigh and walking towards him. Kneeling down before him she began to inspect his wounds within the moonlight. Surprisingly enough most of the slash wounds that were on his body weren't that deep considering what he had just fought. But the stake wound in the other hand, that would take a good use of magic to ensure that he could even move properly. How reckless could these boys be?

"Forgive me sister. Didn't mean the offense" Mathias whispered in a low tone as his eyes glazed over some. Not good, the thought entered Tessa's mind faster than she could begin casting the spell.

Muttering the incantation under her breath a holy light began to emit from her hands as she held them over Mathias' leg. The divine light gave off a warm and comforting feeling as it slowly healed the injury in his leg.

Mathias slowly felt the life begin to return to his body as he took in a deep breath as he looked at the Sister with a thankful glint in his eyes. "You are a life saver Tessa" Mathias spoke as he slowly adjusted himself where he sat as she continued focusing on healing him as she seemed to not hear what he had said. He was lucky she had shown up when she did, even more so that she had the energy to heal him. He knew how much it took out of the Sisters when it came to healing major injuries. Especially when one is so close to death.

When the light began to dim Mathias placed his bloodied hand upon hers to get her attention. The light that was shining from her hands vanished into thin air as she looked at him. "You are one stubborn hunter aren't you?" She spoke after a while. Looking at the blood that covered her hand she observed the glint of the light from the moon.

"You are lucky the angels passed your prayer to me when they did" Tessa spoke in a scolding tone as she wiped the blood off of her hands as she glanced to the hole which had Mathias' blood trailing from it. "What's on the other side of that hedge?"

"Two vampires from what I could tell. They seem to be members of the vampiric council. But they have range, and the guts to tell me to run or die so I took the smart approach" Mathias spoke in response as Tessa walked to the hedge standing on the other side of the hedge. "What are you doing?"

"I am going to say hello to your friends is all" Tessa said as she went through the hole onto the other side of the hedge leaving Mathias there on the ground.
