Explaining the Commandments

Sometimes do you wonder about the ten commandments? In this chapter, I will show and explain the commandmants as good as I can.

I

"Thou shalt not have other gods before Me"

If we worship other gods made by our hands instead of the Lord Almighty, then we have sinned against Him. If you read the Old Testament, you will know that God has punished Israel many times because they worshipped many gods instead of the Lord.

II

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven

images"

When we make false gods and make an image of them to worship, then we have sinned also. Always worship the Lord and not any statue or image that was made by our hands. The Lord also punished Israel because of this.

III

"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy

God in vain"

When we use the name of the Lord for words that are useless, then we have disobeyed this commandment. These words usually have the name of God in them like "Oh m* God".

IV

"Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy"

When God finished creating all things, He rested on the seventh day and sanctified it. The Sabbath is when we rest from our work and do activities that bring us closer to God. If we work on the seventh day then we have disobeyed this commandment.

V

"Honor thy father and thy mother"

Sometimes, kids and teenagers disobey this commandment. When we do evil deeds to our parents, for example fighting with them, then we have failed this commandment.

VI

"Thou shalt not kill"

Murdering someone isn't the only to disobey this commandment. By throwing harsh words at someone will also count because words can destroy hope.

VII

"Thou shalt not commit adultery"

Adultery can be sexual harassment or assault. When someone divorces his or her wife or husband (except for sexual immorality) marries another, then he who marries again has sinned. When people masturbate or commit sexual things unmarried, then they have also disobeyed this commandment.

VIII

"Thou shalt not steal"

Stealing means taking something from someone without consent or approval whether it is an idea or an object.

IX

"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy

neighbor"

Bearing false witness can be lying to others about another person. Gossip can also count because it is called gossip not fact.

X

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods"

Other words for covet are jealousy and envy. When we jealousy others we have disobeyed this commandment.
