Grandma?

After school James and I got on the bus to get back home. The entire ride was quite. Students feared what dangers the teachers were talking about. When we got to the bus stop James and I started walking home. He was quiet too. I wanted to start a conversation but I didn't know what to say so I just walked along with my head down. We reached my house which was right before James' house so we said goodbye and I walked inside. I still had that feeling deep down that something wasn't right.

I got inside and the lights were off, "Grandma? Grandma are you there? Why are the lights off?" No response. That bad feeling turned to fear as I tried to switch on the lights. I remained in the dark. "Grandma! This isn't funny! Where are you?!" I ran up the stairs to her bedroom screaming for her. I heard nothing.

I got to her room and tried to turn on the lights. They didn't work either. At this point the light from my phone was the only thing helping me find my way as the sun set. I walked further into her room trying to stay as quiet as possible. I wasn't sure whether I was alone or not. I walked along her bed until I saw her nightstand. I saw something under the lamp but as I reached for the lamp I heard the sound of steps on the wooden stairs.

"Grandma?" I said quietly. Still no response.

I lifted the lamp and took the paper folded underneath it. Whoever was coming wasn't Grandma. I moved my phone with the flashlight on around the room and walked towards the window. It was my only escape.

"She's here." I heard a strange voice as I jumped out the window.

The jump was farther than I thought. I sprained my ankle but the adrenaline running through me continued to push me away from danger. I looked up towards the window and ran for James' house. Whoever was after me, they didn't come alone.
