The Paper

"James! James are you here! Please answer I need your help! James they're coming hurry!"

A light from upstairs turned on. "Lily? What are you doing here?" He said with an exhausted expression. "Here come on in."

Following him I felt a sharp pain in my ankle but I continued to follow him to the living room. Before sitting down I closed the curtains still unsure if the strangers followed me here.

"Lily what are you doing? Why did you sound afraid and who's coming?"

"I-I don't know. I got home and Grandma wasn't there. I was in her room and I heard someone coming up the stairs. I found this paper on her nightstand," I told him in fear of him not believing me.

"What does the paper say?" He asked as he yawned.

"I haven't looked at it yet." I looked at the note and read, "Lily, I'm sorry to leave you like this but I had no choice. They know. You can't stay here anymore. I'm sorry." I paused. "Well what else does it say?" James asked impatiently. "I'm getting there!" I began to read again, "You are not like the people around you. There is something special about you and we need you to help us. Be strong Lily, for all of us. Love, Grandma."

"What does that mean?" James questioned.

"I-I don't know. My grandmother has always been insane. She never lets me go in the dark but now she's gone. I don't know what she means by special. There's nothing special or different about me," I looked down at the paper and folded it.

"James is it ok if I stay here tonight?"

"Yes that's alright. I'll sleep on the couch, and you can take the bed," he said with another yawn.

"Thank you James."
