The Walk home

James and I walked to the bus stop where we sat down to wait for the bus. "Hey Lily, if what Ms. Alice said was true, do you think she could be talking about you?" James asked.

"I don't know. She didn't finish what she was going to say and it could be anyone. I doubt it's me anyway." I looked down at my hands. Was that light really me? Was it just a dream?

We waited for the bus. The sky became dark as the sun went down. The stars and moon filled the sky with light but it was still dark. The bus was running late and I began to worry. "James, why is the bus so late?" I asked.

"I'm not sure." He turned to face me, "Should we just walk home?"

I nodded and we stood up. It's a long way back home. The wind picked up and I didn't have a jacket. "Here Lily." James said handing me his jacket. "Thank you." My face turned red, and I quickly looked away hoping he didn't see me.

After walking for a while, I could see James was tired too so we stopped to rest. We stopped under a streetlight and sat on the side of the road. It was nice being with James. I didn't feel alone. We both talked, forgetting about everything else.

We finally decided to stand and continue our walk home but once we stood, I saw a shadow pass by. "James, did you see that?" I looked around hoping it was just my imagination. "See what?" He said confused.

"James let's hurry home, I don't like being in the dark." He looked at me and we started walking home but with a faster pace. I kept looking over my shoulder unable to shake the feeling someone was following us.

The streetlights behind us faded and our fast walk turned to running. "What's going on?" James looked at me hoping I would know. "I-I don't know. We have to hurry James don't stop" I yelled. The streetlight in front of us broke stopping us. I turned around to see a shadow coming from behind.

"Hurry James!" I screamed.

"What is it Lily? What's going on?" He looked at me confused.

"Just trust me James! Please trust me!"

We continued to run. I saw a figure up ahead and stopped. "Lily why did we stop?" James looked around still not able to see the shadows. Out of breath we stood there looking around. James couldn't see, but we were surrounded by shadows standing in the darkness, around the circle of light shining down from the streetlight. Their eyes, looking at us from the night.

"We finally found you. The last light," came a strange voice. Within the shadows, one stepped forward. "You can't escape now. You can't defeat all of us."

"Who are you? What do you want?" I yelled. I got no response. James looked at me thinking I was insane. He couldn't hear them either. The light above us slowly went out. There was no light around us. No escape, no one to ask for help. James looked as afraid as me even though he couldn't see what I saw, he could sense the danger. We were surrounded with no way out.

The shadows walked closer to us, closing us in. I was afraid. I didn't know what to do but I didn't want them to hurt James. I closed my eyes and heard a voice. "Believe Lily. Believe in your strength."

My eyes still closed I listened as I did on the bus. I heard it, the sound of a heart beat. A heart consumed by darkness, calling for help. It wasn't mine. I opened my eyes to see a bow in my hand again. I pulled back on the string and a beautiful bright gold arrow appeared. It created a light around me. I pulled the string farther back and released. The arrow pierced the heart of the shadow standing in front of me. The other shadows standing around us disappeared. The shadow in front of us, at first in pain, lay there not moving. The arrow became brighter and brighter, blinding me. I looked back once the light had faded to see a man laying in front of me. He was different though. His hair was blonde. He looked like a normal person.

I looked behind me to see James in shock. Did he see what happened? I walked over to him to see if he was alright. "Hey are you ok" I asked.

He looked at me "Did you see that? Am I going insane? H-he was a shadow!"

"It's ok James, it's over. You're ok."
