We got to the hospital and got off the bus. The three of us were silent walking in. We found Ms. Alice's room and William asked James and I if we could wait outside the door.
After a while, William and Ms. Alice came walking outside the room. Ms. Alice was still weak so William helped her out the door. Looking at them side by side, I could see the resemblance. Their emerald eyes brightened through their tears and now that Ms. Alice had her brother to take care of her, the hospital agreed to let her go home. We got to the front door of the hospital to see the sun setting. The world became dark again.
"William, are you sure it's safe to go outside?" James asked.
"No where is safe. We just have to be careful." He said.
We walked to the bus stop where we waited. Ms. Alice fell asleep but the bus finally came. I still didn't like the bus. Only a few lights on the bus worked and the rest were flickering. I didn't want to get on, but I didn't want to be in the dark either. I closed my eyes.
"Lily, it's ok I'm here. It's going to be ok. You aren't alone." James said as he held my cold hand.
I opened my eyes, nodded, and we got on the bus. There were only a few people on the bus so we sat next to each other. I closed my tired eyes and fell asleep.
I saw mother. Her arms reached for me. It was different this time though. Her blue eyes got darker and darker. I couldn't see father this time. It was just mother and I. I got chills. My eyes opened and James was asleep on my shoulder. I guess he was tired too. Ms. Alice and William were still talking to each other. I closed my eyes and rested my head on James' head. I felt his warm hand still holding my hand.
I'm not alone. Not anymore.
At some point, the bus came to a stop. James woke me up. It was still dark out, but it was morning.
"Lily, James, we are here." William said as he helped Ms. Alice stand.
