Thalia continues her description of the city in a calming, chipper voice, "The west district is where the middle-class lives. It is clean and rid of crime most of the time. There you can find shops for basic things like clothes and food. It's also where the sentinel HQ is and our first stop in the city. Lastly, the middle district is, as you probably guessed, is in the middle of the city and the hub for adventurers and mercenaries. The middle district has a huge variety of shops and facilities, including the hub for all adventurers in the eastern front. Weapons, armor, tools, medicine, supplies, restaurants, libraries, and much more", She counted off various places with her fingers and sighed, "Haaaaaa...Too many to count. Well, you'll get to see it soon enough" She paused for a few seconds, seemingly hesitant. "I'm...sure you know this, but Else Thalis is one of the most diverse cities in the world 3rd only to the human capital and the demon-kin city, Meaning you'll probably see a lot of different people and races from different walks of life. I don't know your past or any tendencies you might have, but try not to start anything because someone is of a certain race" I look at her quite questioningly, and she notices, "Ah, not that I'm saying you would. it's just a formality."
I give a light chuckle, "I completely understand. Are there any other formalities I should know about?" I should get as much information as possible, even if it's common sense. Common sense in a city might be different from what I know. Maybe. "Common city laws apply nothing too different," She said.
Well, I don't know what common city laws are, so work with me a bit. Even if I remember skills like making a fire and setting traps, I don't remember ever using them. And I certainly don't remember any city laws. "Are you alright? You seemed a little aggravated," Thalia asked.
"Oh, I'm fine. It's just..." I pause for a second. How do I proceed? hmm. "I don't think I've ever really been in a city, so I'm not sure what laws I'm supposed to follow."
A thick silence hung in the air as I faced thalia, her face was blank, and I had a hard time reading her.
"But you do know what a city is, right? If I recall correctly, you asked if there was a library, and only major cities have a library, but then again, you only asked to learn..." She spoke with a questioning tone. What a hole I've dug for myself.
"Well, I do know what a city is and what's in them. I just don't know the proper rules or laws." For whatever reason. She nods and pulls something from her bag. A small but thick leather-bound book. "this is a guidebook to Else Thalis, It's a little dated, and some parts are written in elvish, but it should explain to you the ins and out of Else Thalis Better than I could" She hands me the small book and I accept it. Looking at the leather cover, I see inscribed the words 'Travelers guide to the world: Else Thalis edition Written by 'Corvania Imizael Thalis' Two things come to my mind. One, I can read this language, which is a great blessing, and two, the author's last name is the same as the city. "Isn't this-" I start to ask, but thalia interrupts, "I've told you that Else Thalis was named after the leader at the time. It's no surprise that they have a lineage. It so happens that one of them traveled the world and documented her experiences, thoughts, and much more. Read up. We still have quite a while until we reach the city," she said. I nod and give my thanks, opening to the first page.
The sun was about to go down when thalia interrupted me from my reading. I look at her and see her tired eyes and understand. "I'm sorry, but can you take over? I need a few hours", She asked in a tired voice. "Yea, it's no problem" I place the book into a pocket inside my cloak and take the reins from her hands. Let's hope I remember how to do this. She nodded thankfully and pulled up her cloak, and tried to get as comfortable as possible in this situation. I look to the road and see that the elves walking along the carriages had changed. I question why the elves had been sent so far away from the city, and if I remember right, it was because of bandit issues. It must be some troublesome bandits to warrant a group like this.
My thoughts turn over to the book as I'm still trying to understand the information overload. I almost finished reading the book when thalia stopped me, and I hadn't taken any breaks, so this is a good time to digest. The first few chapters were an overview of the world, Aegisfell, and its different nations, kingdoms, and races, Which is a huge boon. Then It went briefly through the origins of Else Thalis and its many problems starting up. The later chapters went into a detailed description of the city. its government, laws, and a few more things. When It was on the section about the middle district, it even went into a more significant explanation of the adventurer association.
